They weren't expecting Real to blow them out of the water?

Lol, good one Cath.

United were willing to pay more. Bale wanted Madrid simple as that.

I think she just meant that United weren't expecting Madrid to want him so soon, though she is Welsh so who can say with any certainty what she was talking about.

Stupid Cath.

Some strong shit the BSoDL's are smoking in this thread to pretend there is even the slightest chance of Levy pulling off such a deal.

I never understood where people got this line of thinking - the distributing store (JD, etc.) and the manufacturing company (Nike, adidas, UA, etc.) all cut into that profit to make the margins quite thin. It might be a bit of a different story if most people bought from the club shop (which they do not), but even then not massively. Distributing stores and manufacturing companies come out better than the club do on shirt sales thanks to distribution arrangements. The club has to lean on them for that.

Anyway, I don't think it's likely that Bale returns but if he does I think it's next summer. Would make sense. My question would be if Poch would want him here or not, or if Daniel would be somewhat forcing the homecoming on him.
I think porch would want Bale. Any sane manager would. His pacy runs. Ability to shoot and score from most of the opponents half. The free kicks and sheer ability to strike fear into the other team. If we had him I'm certain we would breeze the league

It's down to the player I suppose. I hope he has enough affinity with us to want to come back and build something. He'll still be on massive wages, just not as big as United can offer. He is already a multi millionaire.

Also, I believe Madrid pick up 50% of player image rights iirc. We wouldn't.

The image rights are massive. Madrid insisted on his rights because they believed that in doing so the deal would pay for itself. If Bale were suddenly to get 75% instead of the 50% of his image rights that he currently gets then that could make up a large part of the wages deficit.

I still don't think that it's likely that we'll get him, but it's not impossible either.

Although we will not sign Bale, the agreement we have with Madrid puts us in quite an interesting and potentially advantageous position. The ability to scupper any business between Utd and Madrid at the death (the 72-hour clause) could be used to leverage a deal off both Utd (for perhaps one of their players - e.g. Martial) or Madrid (say, Kovacic).
