I would say he has lost some confidence, perhaps since the sending off vs Inter away.

His decision making has definitely been highly suspect since that point.

He seems to be in two minds on whether to come out or not, then panics.

The Chelsea pen was an extreme case of this.

The coaching staff need to work on his decision making and pyschological approach and I'm sure they have talked about it.

But it's easier said than done to make a difference. Ultimately, Gomes has to start making the right choices during the match himself.

Gomes(and any player for that matter) get a split second to make the right decision. On the penalty incident Gomes chose to come out and ended up giving away a penalty. If he doesn't come to collect and the player gets on the end of it and then scores, he's then hammered for not coming out.

We all get something Gomes doesn't, hindsight, replay after replay from many different angles, slow motion etc etc and then sit here and dissect his decision.

And then a few fucking numpties decide he's all of a suddden not good enough or he's losing the plot.

He's the best we've got, had and could possibly hope to have and i can't see why anyone would even consider wanting him dropped or worse still replaced.

Absolutely spot on!
Gomes is a top, top class keeper and we are VERY lucky to have him.

Gomes' ability (other than his kick) is second to none. He's strong, fast, agile and very big.

However, he is undoubtedly a confidence player and lacks mental toughness (as well as physical toughness).

Currently his confidence levels are not at their highest and as a result he is making the odd error - some of which are costing us dearly. The Chelsea goal being a case in point.

I don't think the above is particularly debatable. What is debatable however is how the club deals with it. I don't think there's any chance of Harry looking at other goalies in the transfer window. However, unless Gomes' form improves by the end of the season, a decision will have to be made regarding the faith placed in him by the club.

We can't afford to carry players who are playing badly, no matter how well liked they are. We gave Robbo perhaps a little longer than we should have done, and I don't think we have been proven wrong in our decision to sell him.

For what it's worth, I think we'll find it hard to get another goalie as talented as Gomes and I pray that he can find his mojo again as, for me, at the business end of last season he was the difference between Champs League and Europa League footy.

Harry says that he made up for it, but I dont believe so. The penalty was embarrassing. It doesnt matter whether he saved it or not. Any goalkeeper worth his salt should at least pary a shot away that is hit straight at him.

Its not the first time either this season that he has cost us. I hope he learns to keep his mouth shut in the press until he regains some form.

POT- KETTLE ...BIG MOUTH....i think your views suck...are you a gooner?
or are you off school......

Also, how is Rooney not there? He could've given birth in the time since his last goal from open play.

Gomes has been a liability this season, as plain as the nose on anyone's face. Fans won't face up to it because there's been a big goalkeeping hole since Robbo nosedived, a big fan-favourite hole waiting to be filled.

The complete unreliability and erratic behaviour is excused because he can pull off spectacular eye-catching saves. A lot of keepers can do that, but you're judged by the subtle things that don't catch the eye, the actions that have your defenders looking on and acknowledging without having to run up and hug you.

Gomes isn't a keeper that most other fans jealously wish was their own, Arsenal apart. He's not worth what was paid for him - £7.8m. In the PL alone, these are the keepers I would be happy to replace him in the Spurs side:

Reina
Howard
Cech
Hart
Given
Al-Habsi
Gordon
Gilkes
Foster

That's Gordon who had a bad spell last season and many Sunderland fans wanted to be dropped? Or Ben Foster that had a really dodgy spell about a year ago? Or Ali Al-Habsi that couldn't hang onto his place in a struggling Bolton team?

Gomes is a top keeper who is just going through a slightly difficult couple of months - he's still playing ok, just not to his heights of last season. I for one would much rather see him stay in the team and regain his form.

I've been away from the forum for a while and the insults being traded are getting worse

Why can't people disagree without abusing the other person. Mods?

Gomes has clearly made some blunders this season. It's a worthy topic.
