Is he worth it? If he somehow convinces his agents to choose us, how long before they're kicking up a fuss and disrupting us.

I want the player but not the baggage

To be fair, a move to Leipzig is sensible given their reputation for developing young talent and then selling on for a high fee.

Leipzig are just so plastic, so it's no surprise they're offering more money to agents.

SPURS WANT BARCA MIDFIELDER
Tottenham
are in talks to sign Ilaix Moriba from Barcelona.
One source in Spain has indicated that an agreement is close and personal terms with the player would not be a problem. Barcelona want a fee in the region of £17m (€20m).
However, Moriba also has interest from RB Leipzig, whom Sky Sports News reported a few days ago have also been in talks to sign him.
Joan Laporta recently confirmed that Moriba is for sale after turning down the offer of a new contract at the Nou Camp.
Spurs have today sold midfielder Moussa Sissoko to Watford and are also prepared to sell Tanguy Ndombele if his valuation is met.

Yeah but not at the expense of sitting in the reserves for a year, that can seriously derail a young players career.

He could join us, break his way into the team in the PL, and blow up like Alli did, this time next year he is one of the best young players in the world. Or alternatively, he is making a quiet transfer to Leipzig next summer.....

True, but maybe Leipzig had only a certain budget for the transfer and due to the high demands of the greedy father and agents they said for example, our budget is 15m euros, we give you half which appeases your (greedy) demands and the rest we will offer to barca and see how that negotiations goes maybe? hoping also Barca might take some money rather than lose him for free in a year. Leipzig always seem to work within a certain range in transfers and never go away from that model.

I just don't see how Leipzeig will be able to do this deal this summer because they'd have earmarked an amount for this transfer and most of it will have gone to the agent and wages because of the lack of fee. Because we've got amongst it early, they may be priced out.

Idk but something about me questions a kid wanting to leave Barca when they've been given chances in the first team. I have no idea if this guy is any good or not but the whole situation seems like a massive mess.

If it were me I'd sack this one off. I think it's going to be nothing but hassle in the long term. Fortunately there are other options. :)

I’m not so sure about this one. Sure, the kid looks super talented. But the family sounds troublesome, and according to some reports he had disciplinary issues at La Masia (that were partially overlooked due to his talent). To make it at the top you need to have the correct attitude and motivation/ discipline, and to have the right people around you, and I’m not sure that’s the case here. But if we are doing proper DD on the lad, and feel he’s right, then great.

There are two narratives floating around, one that suits Barca and one that makes the player look good.

In the player's version, Barca were strong-arming him into signing a contract extension that would have barely increased his wages but put an absolutely massive release clause in. The club would have maintained control over him and he wouldn't have seen any material benefit from the deal. For not having signed the one-sided contract, he's been frozen out and so is looking for the exit.

In Barca's version, the player is demanding extortionate wages and his agents/advisors are disruptive influences.

Hard to know exactly what to believe. Knowing absolutely nothing about the situation my totally speculative gut feeling is that he was well within his rights to turn down the contract Barca offered but that his agents are also pricks.

Yeah I don’t really see this one happening due to the messy nature of it all and what sound like unscrupulous agents/advisors. We wanted talented players yes of course but they need to be hungry to prove themselves not just hungry for notes.

Agree. Expect Leipzig to have money only for either the exorbitant agent fee or Barca fee. If they pay for agent, then they are hoping Barca will fold.

For us to get him now, Barca has to hold their nerve and not sell him at all, if Leipzig offer was cheap

Moriba isn’t represented by his father, but by a german agency, which is the same agency that also represents Sabitzer. So by getting Moriba to Leipzig, they open the path for a Sabitzer sale to Bayern. At least that’s my theory of how the agents think.

Moriba has always been a gem, and when Barcelona signed him from Espanyol, his contract was mistakedly leaked (by mistake they sent it to Espanyol instead of to Moriba…). At 16 he earned a whopping €3 mill per year… Now: We all know the mess Barcelona find themselves in. And where everyone else is taking a pay cut, Moriba insists on a rather hefty wage rise to renew, which has completely broken the relationship. Barca has been clear that he will spend the next season in the stands if he doesn’t renew or finds himself a club that can pay €15-20 mill. The agreement with Leipzig was reported about a week ago, but they only offered €6 mill to Barcelona. So the news about him (or his agents) agreeing with Leipzig, but barca agreeing with tottenham sounds right.

So: How good is he? I’ve probably seen every single minute he’s played for Barcelona, since they are my second team and I basically watch every game, so this isn’t based on YouTube. But I think Pogba when I see him. He’s very, very complete; good both on the ball, defensively, good work rate, can finish, brilliant passing. He can be a top, top player. However I always had the feeling last season that Barcelona fell abit apart whenever Moriba came on for Pedri (which was the standard sub in the second half). Whether that says more about Pedri or Moriba is another story though, Pedri is after all something very, very rare. But I wouldn’t expect Moriba to be a nailed on starter if he comes here. He ought to be very suited for english football though. And I can see him filling more than one of the three midfield roles in Nunos 433.

I’m personally crossing my fingers here.
