Fair points but surely we need to step it up a level? We've just got into champions league and if we dont invest in proven, experienced, quality players we're gonna fall short after all the hard work last season. Like Breezer said.. how are we gonna buy Forlan etc who will probably demand more wages and a big transfer fee on top? Im afraid Carlton Cole, Scott Parker, possibly Bellamy and Arda who I would be very happy with, are realistic targets. Next season is going to be very difficult to maintain our top 4 position!

I didn't want Joe Cole, I've got nothing against him as a player but I just didn't feel he would fit into our system, mainly due to already having shorties like Lennon and Modric as I just feel we need to ensure we have some height in the team.

If we are looking to go 4-5-1 then we need someone a bit more goalscoring and attacking (preferably with some height).

Call me crazy too, but I'd like to see Ryan Mason developed for the role just off the front man as he'd be able to play the 'Teddy' role off of a no.9 and also slot back into a 5 man midfield.

If we have these talented youngsters we need to start blooding them and not buying players who are going to block their progress.

Also, on a final note regarding Cole.

Even though I didn't want him to sign for Spurs, his apparent choosing of Liverpool presumably due to them offering the most wonga does disappoint me when he probably could and should have been looking for a Champions League Team, maybe even abroad.

Hopefully he will do a good job for them though and they'll be able to get back into the champions league (at Chelsea, Man U or Goon's expense) with him and Gerrard in good form as would like to see this then transferred to the England Team (gotta keep a bit of love for the national team even if they don't deserve it).

I believe that Levy is prepared to, and will, step it up a level but for the right player.....Joe Cole was not that player. It's one thing breaking the wage limit for an 'A lister' and another entirely for a 28 year old with a poor injury record who we didn't actually need. I think if we did go for someone like Forlan then the wage cap would be broken, but Jow Cole simply cannot be compared to the likes of Forlan etc.

Don't get me wrong, I was one of those fans who would have been happy to have Cole. But I'm also not unhappy that he has gone to Liverpool because he would have been a nice addition but not a crucial addition.

Surely Joe Cole is much more likely to get games for Liverpool than he is us, so for that reason it could be a better move for Joe Cole, along with the extra money of course.

And this emphasises my point. POTL summed it up nicely when he said that cole wasn't a necessity, he would have been a luxury. If we are going to break that wage cap we should do it for a player that we really need, and that isn't anywhere in the midfield right now (or RB, come to think of it !!)

not the best news, at least we will still be able to command higher fees for the palyers we need to offload and the likes of gio will have a glimmer of a chance. hopefully him and ohara can be loaned out to fulham or similar and develop into future spurs successes

If Joe Cole was Harry's top target of the summer dont you think Levy should have made him an exception? Surely Harry deserves this after last season.

Has Harry actually stated that he was the top target or simply that he very much wanted to sign him?

Or whether Harry even wanted him in the first place. I reckon we just teamed up with l'arse in order to make Liverpool stump up nigh on £100k a week on a crocked, currently overrated and inconsistent bench warmer.

It makes me feel better to think he didnt and was just trying to bankrupt Liverpool, would have been a decent signing, nothing more nothing less, will see a few moments of real class and talent but the rest of the time he'll be pretty meh, and we have Jenas for that.

No we can safely say Harry wanted him!

No, we didn't see Cole as a £90k a week player.
If we just buckled in on wage demands for our managers top target every window we will end up like West ham.

I wonder what West Ham offered Cole...you would imagine about what he's getting from Liverpool now..

They got beaten by an MLS club to Henry's signature which pretty much says it all...

Back to my first point. We have been linked with Fabiano, Forlan etc.

Without breaking our wage structue how do we expect to sign players of this calibre?

Impossible!

Well, it may be that Levy will break it for teh right player, but he doesn't think Cole is that player.
