I saw somewhere that Arsenals biggest transferfee was £12M for Wiltord. Is this true?

If true it just makes are signings and potential once even more crazy

As we are trying to get ourselves up the league we rely on buying players that we believe will go straight in to the first team, improve it and make an impact. Unfortunately we are not in a position where we can buy a cheap young player and put him in the academy/ reserves for a few years with the odd loan deal to a championship side before blooding him in the first team.
It is a lot easier to persuade players to come to you if you are at the top of your respective league and in the champions league every year.

I thought they paid more for Reyes (maybe it was paper talk)

Same goes for Walcott, wasn't he £16m? although I think alot was in staggered payments which have since been waved by Southampton for instant cash

This move (or rumour) is baffling, 16 million for a player who has played most of his football in the Championship and had one good spell for Sunderland, that's one good spell, not one good season, a player who has not exactly looked electric after coming back from a long term knee ligament injury. Crazy, crazy money.

I don't think we'd offer that kind of money for him at least when we did for Bent he'd had a few seasons in the prem with Charlton scoring regularly and even that was still overpriced.

Where as Kewyne is hardly what you'd call prolific and as riversmonkey said he's played the majority of his career in the champ. Would make us look even more of a joke than we usually do but unfortuately knowing spurs this is plausible. I hope it's just media bollocks tho.

We could get a proper top class striker for the sort of money that's being quoted.
Not somebody that has played down the line for HR somewhere who is "premiership experienced" but a proper top class striker.
I hope sunderland & west ham save us from ourselves.

I would really like him, we have not got 1 striker who can play with his back to goal. Even though Pav has the physical attributes to do that, it is simply just not his game, he seems to me to be a taller version of defoe. We need a striker who can hold the ball up and bring other players into the game, KJ for me showed he was very very effective at doing that.

When you think about it as well 16m is not that bad a deal. If we were to go for Heskey he would cost in the region of 4-5mil in the current market (based on the fact that SB has said he is determined not to sell him) and would have no sell on value. KJ on the other hand might cost more initially but even if we sold him in 2 years time for just 11mil we would still probably be better off as payment plans etc would mean the money would never have left our bank and he probably wouldn't demand as high wages as Heskey. On the other hand if he does well we might make money on him. something which will never happen with Heskey, no matter how well he plays, because of his age.

What impresses me most about him is that he can do the flip after he scores!
Thats amazing for such a big guy shows he is a real athlete.

IMO Harry doesn't rate his forwards one single bit. I expect us to go into Feb with Defoe, Jones and Bellemy, replacing Pavlyuchenko, Bent and Campbell. A complete overhaul appears to be happening.

IMO i hope we don't get rid of Pav, he's starting to get into his stride and looks good. Although it wouldn't suprise me if we got rid of him, as Harry doesn't seem to rate quite a few of the team.

So many morons here who can't see this guy's potential. He is the closest thing to Drogba that our club will be able to get. Pace, power, good technique, he has it all. Just needs the right guidance to unleash alot of goals.

We don't have time to wait around and see if players reach their potential, we need players who can do the business, right now.

He offers us something we don't have which is proper power up front and an outlet. That is something we would get straight away. All I am saying is he has potential to take his game to new levels with the right creative players around him.

There is no use having power up front if there is no service. He scored 7 goals 5 in the league and two in the cups. Not better than what we have already. We are better of concentrating on providing good service for the strikers we have already.
