Huddlestone has played international football at schoolboy levels and knows his way around the best young players in Europe. He picks out Jurado, a Real Madrid midfielder currently on loan at their neighbours Atletico, and Chelsea's forgotten Frenchman Lassana Diarra as the best he has played against.

wtf..someone told me Diarra will be unveiled at Pompey tomorrow on a £60,000 a week deal.

anyone heard this.

Not long to wait to see if this is true.

It seems no-one has, and Pompey appear to have issued a denial.

How very, very Pablo. 'Unsubstantiated rumours 'r' me'

I hope we don't lose this one because we are chasing silly pipe dreams like Gattuso & Tiago. This fella is exactly what we need. If it is possible and we aren't trying our nuts off then I would be very dissapointed. I'm not so sure arsenal wouldn't sell to us. They've done business with Chelsea recently and at the end of the day if Diarra wants to come to us there's not much they can do.

He is something we don't hve and he is good at that something. He even fits the general "inherent value" profile. So there is very little excuse not to.

Yeah, but isn't it pretty much public knowledge that our boards hate each other on a personal level, other than just the team rivalry?

Levy and Hills-wood (is that his name) don't get along or something?

I thought it was more with Dein and Wenger. Peter Hill-Wood is a bit more of an old school James Callaghan type and not a bad guy.

Dein is extremely chummy with Levy (and with Kemsley and Sugar, for that matter). His son is also married to David Buchler's daughter. Hill-Wood wasn't at all happy that Dein got an invite to our boardroom at the Goons game back in September. Presumably he was knocking back the sherry Kemsley brought back with him from Seville (that was why he went there, you know).

You would think this deal would have made sense (bit like Petrov) on various levels. Right age, good price, round peg for round hole, French so Commoli should have been able to talk him round, we are surely more attractive than Pompey.

Don't get this one at all. Would really fucking love to be privy to the thought/decision process that goes on with our heirachy at times. I fully endorse what Levy has done and Commoli for the most part but this is a missed viable opportunity to plug a hole with the bestpossible solution.

Of course, if we tried and failed due to circumstances beyond control (like arseanl not wanting to sell to us) then fair enough.

They haven't picked up on it over on Arsenal-Mania, but they are a bit sloooow over there, as you'd imagine.

Why do Pompey need him when they have at least three holding midfielders already?!!! Maybe they're going to give us Sulley Muntari in exchange for Defoe???? Shame though, as he would be ideal for us.

It was maybe just a case of them refusing to sell to us, which would make sense.

It may have been, but they may have decided not to sell to anyone, because this story is only from SSN.

And if Diarra was signing for Pompey tonight, surely Twitchy would have been there, not at the Madejski?
