I have to say as a Spurs fan living in Glasgow I have often wished we could show such resolve in our defensive qualities.
All top teams show a lot of the qualites Rangers showed in their defence. At spurs we have often been furnished with Rolls Royce forwards and Morris Minor defenders. Rangers showed great organization defensively, from the attackers back.
We could take a lesson in that as spurs fans. They had no pace in their team but managed to break down a quality attacking side at will. That creates a great platform if you have pace on your wings and in attack............whicjh we do...............but we lack will to defend and hunt as a pack.

There's a hell of a lot more to football than just winning. I think it's more about entertaining, but that's a whole different conversation for a different thread.

But Rangers didn't win & I'm happy about that because as a neutral I want to see the best team win - the more entertaining team. I cannot support a dull team, that has nothing to do with jealousy - it's called being a football fan.

I'm not seeing your point?

You know you're talking to Spurs fans here right Clydey?

Honestly? I actually think I'd rather play like Brazil and win nothing.

It's easy to say that, but I'm willing to bet that if someone offered you one of the following:

1. You will never again win a trophy or achieve success but you'll play lovely football.

2. You will be solid in defence and rely on the counterattack and will achieve great success.

I'm sorry, but I don't think you would condemn your team to a future void of success.

It's no use just winning, we've got to win well.

It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have
set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory.

A couple of quotes from our greatest ever manager and pretty much sums up what it is to be a spurs fan. One thing you always hear from ex-players that played under Bill Nick was the fact that he want his teams to play good football and to entertain the fans and this is the foundation our club was built upon.

News is a Zenit fan has been stabbed outside the ground. His condition isn't life threatening.

I'll say it again. I'm a Celtic fan.

This is about jealous idiots having it in for Rangers. And no, Rangers are not awful. They reached the UEFA Cup final. Remind me of how the Prem clubs got on?

Attack is but on aspect of football. The fact that you don't find it pleasing on the eye is irrelevant. Football is about winning.

I think Danny Blanchflower said it best:

"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

Show me a Spurs fan who doesn't think this is gospel and I'll show you a gooner.

No, football is competitive. The fact that it can entertain is incidental. Football clubs are run as a business. Winning makes more money. Style alone does not.

But you can play counterattack and play entertaining football.

I will put it this way.

If Spurs won 1-0 every game of the seaon there will still be a lot of unhappy Yids.

We can win 4-0 and still have people unhappy though :eh:

My point is that there is a difference between wanting one side to win and gleefully mocking the losing side.

Anyway, I'd rather put that to one side. Hearing more about the rioting. That, to me, is more disappointing than Rangers losing.

They're bringing shame on their cub and their country. Morons, all of them.

Watching Rangers tonight I was expecting to see them play like they did against
Fiorentina, which they did, I then realised that Italian teams have played like this right up to international level. Grindingly boring but effective.

I can't knock that I suppose.

I think the crowd trouble was at a site in Mancland when the giant tv screen broke after 5 mins and the Rangers fans started lobbing stuff at each other.

Not really. If you aren't initiating attacks, packing the defence, and simply waiting for the other team to commit players forward, you are not going out to entertain. And obviously, judging by the quotes that have been C&P'd (which proves bugger all other than what certain individuals think), football has to be about attacking and slick passing. Winning means nothing.

And we have a winner! That was the exact quote I was eluding to earlier!

Yeah, that's what I heard do. I'm glad they didn't riot because of the loss, but there shouldn't be rioting no matter the circumstances. I'm embarrassed for them.

Without fans, football is nothing. Fans exist to be entertained.

One Zenit fan stabbed.
