I'm not so sure mate. I've no doubt the majority of Scottish people have no problem with England, but there's something there. There has always been. Remember the home nations riots? The people in the clip probably went to get the Braveheart speech tattooed on their back and came out with the Trainspotting one instead.

My point is though, whereas it may have kicked off anywhere else if the screen had broke, the underlying (possible) hatred of the English meant that this was more likely here than any other country. Call it the 'Fuck the English' attitude maybe?

But like i say, i know it's the minority and your fans are generally good as gold.

tbh mate, you have got us scots totally wrong here! Especially rangers supporting ones! I cant stress how important the british link is to the rangers fan base. Would be going into some unneccesary politics to explain it, but i can guarentee you 100% there was no english hatred behind the violence last night

Pages of how Rangers fans where attacked by riot police. Nothing about how some of the Rangers fans acted. All blame on the police

The police were well out their depth and handled the situation very very poorly. Problems on the scale of last night could easily have been avoided.

 the people arrested for that have been released because well...they didnt do it! In fact, it turns out it may very well have been another russian that done it, or so the eyewitnesses say. But hey, lets just go with something we've seen on the news and make up our own story.

I've seen the footage.

200 "Riverdancing" Rangers fans show Manchester police how to do a highland fling.

30 Rangers fans go to assistance of fallen police officer but every one manages to accidentally trip over the officer.

20 Rangers fans perform stability and glass strength test on parked vehicle.

However it may be the case that locals dressed as Rangers fans may be involved.

I have been on the receiving end of an unprovoked attack by about 20 Rangers Fans in 1982. There were 3 coachloads of Rangers fans on the ferry and our coach.
We were off to Bayern Munich, they were off to Cologne.

A fair few Rangers fans were totally smashed having been drinking all the way from Scotland. They broke into the duty-free on the boat and ransacked the booze perfume and toblerones. A few of the Spurs/'Gers fans myself included were quite happy chatting away and swapping stories when a gang of about 20 "big-men" came after me and called me a "Fenian Bastard" - Must have been the freckles and the red-neck that gave me away, they smashed bottles over my head, I fell to the floor and took a kicking but slipped out of the melee and escaped down into the engine room of the ferry where I stayed until the ferry docked. My padded leather jacket saved a lot of damage to me and my hair was full of glass.

I haven't got a lot of time for the stories about them being great fans all the world over. Bigotry and violence down the years.

Even their glorious CWC win in 1973 resulted in a pitch invasion which meant the club were banned from Europe for a year.

Now, to sum up I am not saying every GR fan is a hoolie but the minority always let down the travelling support.

Okay, ive not seen the "riverdance" footage you are talking about so i wont comment.

2nd one is a disgrace and i hope every person in that footage is banned from all stadium for life.

The 3rd one was a large group of fans, many of whom were not rangers fans i suspect. The guy jumping on the car was wearing bright green. I can guarentee you that NO rangers fan would were green to manchester on uefa cup final day. Doesnt even bare considering.

As for locals, there were definately some locals involved, but there were also some of chelsea's baldy folk up fighting with some man utd fans as well as a large number of west ham fans travelling up for a bit of fun. I cant 100% confirm they were involved in the riots but...yeah

1982 was a long time ago. Says nothing about last night. I do feel extremely sorry for you but we all know that hooliganism comes with football, especially in the 80s.

As for our violence all over the world...must have escaped police attention this season as we've had 0 arrests in 9 different countries until last night this season. Our 42 yesterday take our total for the season to 42. So the minority do no always let down the travelling support. Sadly, last night they did and I am livid. We're already starting campaigns to find out who was involved last night and report them. Even if we only get 1 or 2 names, it'll be something.

As an aside, Hutts was in Manchester yesterday. Almost caused a riot himself when he turned up at one of the fanzones

Fans want success. That's why managers get sacked if they don't provide that success.

If I wanted succsess I would be supporting Real Madrid, Arsenal, chelsea, Man utd, Barcalona, Milan, Bayern Munich....I dont I want Glory!, I want to see intertaining football, and want to be entertained.

YES, I wanna win but I wanna win with style, I would rather get religated playing buitifull football, then winning the Champions league by defending!!

You are kidding aren't you? :eek:mg:

The same Police force that deals with the huge crowds at Old Trafford every week?

The technical bod was on TS this morning saying that they probably could've fixed the big screen problem within 10 mins, but the Rangers fans started pelting them with bottles, so they had to retreat.

No Police forces are more experienced at dealing with Football supporters than English ones, so if that kind of trouble ensued, I know who I would blame.

I only hope it doesn't affect England's bid for the World Cup.

OT doesnt have 175,000 fans at it every week  They stupidly expected 60,000. We've been saying for a fortnight they should double or even triple that and then start making plans, but they never had adequate planning done for that number and didnt know how to cope other than beating fans who werent involved in fighting (there plenty of videos of that too).

Why should a host city of a one off match cater for over 100,000 people without tickets?

It's absolutely daft. Why didn't they stay home to drink and watch it in Glasgow city centre?

Unless a host country actually requests people to travel without tickets, as Germany did in 2006 and so catered for them, I don't see how you can blame anybody but your out of order fans.

I vote for Scottish devolution asap.

Its that kind of stubborn "we said dont come so tough" attitude that has helped this situation to escalate. Rather than plan for situations that ARE going to happen, the GMP have planned for a situation they want to happen. Thats just idiotic and naive. And as ive said, half of the out of order fans werent even rangers fans, but instead hooligans from other clubs here to check out the craic.

Funny that. When English supporters used to say the same thing after trouble, the resounding word from Scottish fans was always: "Get real, you're to blame, our record is blemish free!"

It just so happened that it was directed at English police officers in an English city... Their fans love England but destroy English cities and attack English police officers.

I've never particularly liked Rangers or Celtic, just not my thing, but after the UEFA Cup finals and the ensuing riots I have gone from not caring much about Rangers to actively disliking them.

Ironically, everyone was worried about Zenit fans--their ultras have a pretty (well deserved) shite reputation but I guess they couldn't get to the match for one reason or another...

It was all over the North West News last night. It shown one policeman getting absolutely battered by about 20 fans, stamped on & everything, he was lucky to walk away with only bruising. Absolute disgrace. There was a bloke on from the Manchester City Council who was saying how much they'd organised for the fans etc, also warning fans with no tickets not to turn up. They even organised shuttle buses (at very short notice) to take thousands of fans to another area of the City so they could watch another TV.
I also saw on the News this morning that the police in Moscow have stepped up as to stop this happening next week. Another downer against British football fans.

Are we actually surprised by the Rangers Riot? It is seen by almost all non-British observers as an endemic part of British Football....but Rangers, being so unused to a major Euro Final were unable to act as Scots....but lowered their standards to that of common British Yobbery. Like it or lump it.....they let the people if Scotland down in a big way. No amount of frail excuse making can excuse the 'thuggery'. Can anybody explain how Celtic can travel throughout Europe without too much trouble? There is, and will always be, a certain amount of good natured 'enjoyment' whenever football fans travel...BUT it is just that.
I cannot accept anything to, somehow, excuse the actions of those who, let's accept, were always destined to ruin what was, up until recently, a great occasion for the club. It did not surprise me....to be honest....but I thought that EVEN Rangers Fans (even this minority) could behave themselves in public?
Rangers let the complete country of Scotland DOWN....but....what is new? I hope that Hutton has 'cleansed' him self of that 'bad blood' lol COYS!
