Free hit match essentially. Any points gained will be a bonus, irrelevant of our recent history against them.
Not getting overrun in midfield will be key here, so sacrificing Son for Richarlison to give us more presence in that area of the field is almost a necessity in these big games right now. Son on top form is a no brainer to start each week, but him out of form almost makes it feel like we only have 10 men on the pitch in the recent games.
Cut out the supply to nullify Haaland. Allow them the space we afforded Chelsea and he walks away with the match ball.

This isnt fully accurate. If you count all competitions (which you have as you included BVB) , Son has

12 goals (6 assists) vs Southampton
9 goals (0 assists) vs BVB
7 goals (7 assists) vs West Ham
7 (3 assists) vs ManCity
7 (5 assists) vs Leicester

So how is it not accurate?

I’m just happy by next weekend we will have played Chelsea, West Ham and City away from home. Even if we lose we will still be right up there in the pack and will have played some of our most difficult away games.

Arsenal away coming up soon and Utd away before the World Cup break. Means second half of the season we will only really have Liverpool as a ‘tough’ away fixture.

Beat them and we go top. What a confidence boost that would be

17 points from 7 games would be insane. Surely would be our best ever start to a season in decades

Yeah agree, but Newcastle away I'd lump in there as well.

I hear what you are saying but if we come out of this week with a win in our opening Champions League game at home to Marseille and we back that up with a hard fought draw away to City and no major injuries or suspensions I would take that all day long and it would represent an excellent outcome.

Happy with draw- we are more than capable to get a point. No resting strongest team every match up until break. City are a CL team we need to compete against so lets start competing.

Good luck to Haaland with making runs behind our system. We should once again match up with City favorably.

Agree about the free hit. Disagree about Son. Son's pace and his runs, specifically the timing of his runs, are essential to have a chance of getting a result against City. Plus he has a great record against them. I would rest Son against Marseille mid-week (making a point to tell him it is because he is my main man for a more difficult game away at City at the weekend). Son, Kane and Kulusevski against City with Richarlison coming on to help out.

Also, I think the pressure is more on City.

We can set up to contain and counter.

We'll have tonnes of space to counter into.

I'd rest PEH against Marseille and keep Richarlison fresh for City as well. Their work rate will be huge for this.
Could it be one of the only games we might see Bissouma, Bentancur and PEH in a 3?

In our last few wins against them we've let them have the ball out wide as we've been confident of defending the box but it'll be interesting to see if we continue to take that approach now they've got Halaand.

Yeah that's a good shout, we might see a surprise like that.

With Kulusevski making way...
No way does he depart from a formula that worked well against them last season.
If we actually did that I could also see Sonny making way.
Sonny scores so frequently against them, I wouldn't drop him. It suits him to score his first goal(s!) of the season against them.

Reckon he'll play the exact same side that beat them 3-2 last season and try to do the same thing, with most of the rotation coming in vs Marseille.

I would definitely be going this way with Kane And Richarlison up top. The wing backs can still push up high for width but that midfield can fight it out and try and keep the ball a bit more. We all know city will have the ball more so Richarlison and kane can keep up top for the counters.

I'd make Richarlison and Kane the two up top.

Pretty exciting with those three behind them.

But maybe Perisic instead of Sess.

What options to have with Kulu and Son to bring on.

So:

Romero
Dier
Davies

Royal
PEH
Bentancur
Bissouma
Perisic

Richarlison
Kane

Hope Conte doesn't let us be outnumbered in midfield. We've struggled against average teams when he does that and MC will have us chasing shadows all game. Would like to see us start 352 and just try to stay in it. Can always change up later on if we're doing OK. We need Lenglet's passing from the back and would also like Richarlison's energy and pressing from the start. Can't afford to having anyone standing around with their thumb up their arse.

They didn't have Haarland last season. He's a real game changer and gives them a big aerial threat up front so you have to adapt for that.
