I think it might soon be time for Lucas or Bergwijn to be given a go. But probably not against City, then then as you imply, who are going to be the lost causes this time?
So depressing its come to this. 70m plus on four players, not one who is good enough
Could probably play Paskotsi and Lavinier and they'd do no worse
Just one almighty mess, how can our recruiting be so wrong so often

I think you'd have to point the finger at Jose, Hitchen and yes, Poch, for some truly terrible decisions.

Yep, but Emerson happened during FPs tenure, though as always don't know who decided what and why,. All I know is it's been a mess for years, and that's putting it kindly. As always the buck stops with ENIC, they hire these people and set up the structures.
Look at Newcastle, one window already and already improved. How did they manage to get Trippier who's better than any of our WBs.
Didn't he use to play in England before ?

I've just watched the highlights of City's CL win last and I think my mate Billy is our best bet, he's a bricklayer if he can build a wall before they score we're in with a chance of a draw.
Christ they're purring at the moment and they'll come at us from everywhere so strong defence is key, hopefully Bentancur can pick the out passes to get Son and Moura running past their high line.

I like to think they will have used up all their goals after 4-0 and 5-0 wins.
We have got a couple of 2-2 draws in last few years up there

Can't really argue with any of that, and I s'pose yes, it's ENIC who are ultimately responsible for the clubs fortunes, but it's what we blame them for which is at issue here.

Yes, they've obviously made some bad managerial choices which have resulted in those previous managers bringing in some players who've been below the required standard. That in itself is not down to ENIC. Every football manager makes bad choices, you could say it goes with the territory, and usually those bad choices are countered by some brilliant ones.

For every Ndombele there's a Lloris or a Sonny and for every Doherty there's a Walker.

As I said earlier, Emerson might yet come good, these are still early days in his Tottenham career although I have to admit, he's not showing too many signs of adapting yet.

Finally, I don't think we should be looking at Newcastle as a template for development. If you go to almost any player and tell them you have an unlimited budget and will be building a world class team with it with wages to match, most players will jump at the chance of joining your 'exciting project'.

My first away game of the season. Only seen us lose 3 times in over 50 matches.

Not expecting anything. To make matters worse, I am staying at a friend's, who is a city season ticket holder. ?

That's not going to end well!

I'm old enough to remember the days when a trip to Maine Road was a virtual guarantee of three points. We had a brilliant record there. And then the Arabs happened.

Fuck. That.

As long as we are competitive and make a real battle of it, anything else is a bonus at this moment in time.

Fair points, and agree with a lot of what you say. But re Newcastle is where I disagree. I precisely want owners like the Saudis, and if ENIC can't match their budget and ambition I want them out.
Why should we be inferior to clubs like Toon, Chelsea and City

Maybe we should all try and encourage the government of the People's Republic of China to put a bid in. I'm sure they'd just love to get their claws into an EPL club like ours.

The Qatari government own PSG and the Saudis now own Newcastle, so why not...?

(That was a joke by the way...) (y)

Yeah. It's not going to be pretty. I have low expectations. He's a proper old school city fan, so he won't be too twattish about it.

? I absolutely don't care who owns us. If they pass the PLs criteria and they want to and can challenge the mega clubs, that's what I want.

Don't know why, but fancy us getting a draw here. Conte wouldn't want to set another new record of losing 4 games in a row.

At least I hope so anyway.

Thank God Dier is back. I think he's a much better partner for Romero than Sanchez is and we're going to need to be on our toes at the back.

I don't like what he has been saying about us getting weaker. Trigger words are we are weaker. He says the squad had a weak mentality and then says we are weaker getting rid of players that weren't really starting for him.

I can see is getting whooped unless or players somehow got motivated by that
