Marseilles are rumoured to be selling Ocampo one of their few other good attacking players. Not sure if that is bad news (ie they would only sell Ocampo or Batshuayi) or it means that their finances mean they will be happy to sell both as they are midtable, unlikely to be relegated and unlikely to qualify for European competition

You never know with Marseille, they are in such a financial mess I reckon if someone came along with a very good offer they'd sell anyone.

They'll just pick up another 3 or 4 kids from smaller clubs in France and Belgium for peanuts and develop them, and in a year or two they'll be hot property too. Good news for scouts on the continent, but bad news for Marseilles fans who remember the glory days or Papin, Waddle and Abedi Pele.

They are getting what their idiot fans deserve. They are like the French Newcastle.

He is the one player I want to add to our squad more than any other. If not this winter, then next summer will do fine. My only marginal concern is he finishes the season in Ligue 1 with 20+ goals and Wilmots prefers him to Lukaku/Benteke and has a huge Euros and sparks a bidding war for his services.

I scream buy!!!

Yes, buy! Come on. Conclude this deal as soon as possible! Remember the football history. Guingamp had Drogba, we were interested - Marseille bought him - Chelsea bought him - he became a legend.

Same now. Marseille bought him from Standard Liege, he had a good season - we are interested in signing him. Now we actually sign the player - he becomes a Spurs legend :)

For this to have any chance of happening it would take a big bid early in the window - Batshuayi is Marseille's Kane, their only true striker, so they will need time to take the money and bring in a couple of replacements. I expect it would take 20-25m to make this happen in January, which normally I would say is out of the question, but if we were prepared to spend that on Berahino then you never know...

In my opinion, he's a better player than Berahino. So, if we were willing to pay the rumored fees for Berahino, I would really hope that we would be willing to stump up the same type of cash for Batshuayi.

I really think he could transform our prospects of being extremely competitive for hardware across our 3 remaining competitions.

Suarez didn't have EPL experience; Andy Carroll did. If he's the right type of player it won't really matter.

Suarez took some time to settle aswell when he first came in. His first 18 months in the Prem were quite hit and miss imo sometimes brilliant others fairly average, then he really kicked on in his second full season. For every Suarez their is a Lamela. There are no guarantee's.

Doesn't that apply to both of those players?

It does, but one more than the other. Lamela was quite poor in his first 18 months or so, where as Suarez was very inconsistent. One minute he was all but invisible, the next he looked very good indeed.

Don't get me wrong I have never been one to want him out. Regardless of how much he struggled in his early days, he always gave maximum effort. I had been of the opinion from the start he needed the right players around him to become effective and he couldn't adapt his game without the right players to bounce off.

There maybe a problem with EPL experience, whereas SB is a known quality.

Yep, a known quality to have scored something like 13 goals before the end of November (last season) and has been pretty much baron ever since.

Don't get me wrong, as much as I personally don't want Berahino, if Poch does, and we end up signing him, I'll support the lad just like every other player who pulls on our kit.

What I don't get, is why he seems such a wanted player by Poch? Isn't it blatantly obvious that the thing we need most, is an alternative/cover for Kane? I can't think of a single thing that Kane does, that Berahino is able to do. Yeah he's reasonably pacey, but I don't believe he can play as a lone striker, especially not in the way that Kane is able to.

I've seen a fair few saying that Berahino can play wide in the front line, but isn't that also the case for Chadli, Lamela, Eriksen, Son & maybe even Pritchard, too?

Apologies for the long post. I just can't see the reasons for Berahino appearing to be the number 1 striker option from any possible new recruits?
