DM saying we watched him again on the weekend. Really hoping we make our intentions known on January 1 if we are serious about the guy. Faff around and we won't get him.

It is good that we have scouts there but a player like this doesn't really need to be scouted now. They should know all about him by now. It is another player we should have signed a long time ago. Do you remember Drogba's history?

He was excellent when he played for Guingamp together with Malouda. We were also linked with both players at the time but Marseille signed Drogba. Lyon signed Malouda. They both signed for our neigbours in London later on.

It is our turn to get this player now. We are in the position to sign a player like this now. We paid over the odds for Soldado. If we have the money - it is no question - just sign him as soon as possible!!

Tottenham keen on Marseilles striker as they look to ease burden on Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks in a bid to sign Michy Batshuayi after their scouts watched the Marseilles striker play at the weekend.

Vincent Labrune, the Marseilles president, has previously ruled out selling the 22-year-old until at least the end of the season. Batshuayi - who could join fellow Belgians Mousa Dembélé, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Nacer Chadli at White Hart Lane - has scored 11 league goals this season after nine in his first campaign at the French club, when he was also the subject of interest from Newcastle United. Spurs had him watched during his side’s 1-1 draw away to Bordeaux on Sunday.

Batshuayi is among the attacking targets being considered by Tottenham, who are looking for reinforcements to provide support to Harry Kane, the sole striker at the club. Tottenham have also watched Laurent Depoitre, the Gent striker, and have been linked with a short-term move for Alvaro Negredo, the Valencia forward. But they are expected to resurrect a deal for Saido Berahino after a proposed transfer collapsed on deadline day in the summer, after which the England Under 21 striker threatened to go on strike, in an angry post on Twitter.

West Bromwich Albion expressed irritation with Tottenham for gradually making small increases in bids for the striker. West Brom privately said that, although Tottenham’s offer eventually reached about £22.5million, they would receive very little of the cash now and £3 million in add-ons were highly unlikely to be paid. Tottenham had initially offered to pay £3.5 million up front and raised that sum to £5 million with the balance payable over the next five years. Spurs contested the figures and offered to include Federico Fazio, whose move to West Brom collapsed over a relegation clause. However, West Brom took umbrage when the value of Tottenham’s third offer which was worth less than their second bid.

I think that he's plan B if we don't get Berahino (who Trix believes is most likely for us to sign).

I know poch is keen on berahino and we should have a lot of faith in our scouting, but I really think this guy has a higher ceiling of potential.

As the article says the Marseilles chairman has said the player will not be sold until end of season. A non story as far as this window is concerned

No Newcastle offer for Michy Batshuayi

Contrary to rather vague reports in The Sun this morning might suggest, Marseille have yet to receive any offer from Newcastle for striker Michy Batshuayi.

While the Magpies are interested in the player, the player is not interested in them nor is he interested in a move this month.

At the time of writing, Tottenham remain favourites for the player’s signature in the summer, owing to their good relationship with Marseille president Vincent Labrune and their persistent contact with Batshuayi’s entourage.

Marseille are a financial basket case, someone will take Batshuayi soon. I like him a lot as a pure finisher, but unfortunately I don't think he'd really be ideal in our system. If we were going to buy a "different" type of striker i.e. a "box" type - and @Trix says we have been looking at these types (Berahino, Perez) then I'd rather Batshuayi than them because I think he's better in the box than both of them, more of a presence too. But he's not an uber all round striker like your Kane, Drogba type.

Marseilles are rumoured to be selling Ocampo one of their few other good attacking players. Not sure if that is bad news (ie they would only sell Ocampo or Batshuayi) or it means that their finances mean they will be happy to sell both as they are midtable, unlikely to be relegated and unlikely to qualify for European competition
