Give him some time and he'll shine, Ramires looked average when he first came to England too sometimes the south americans just need something to click. Even Sandro wasn't a beast until he was settled.

A luxury in a 2 man CM.

whether he's a luxury fullstop remains to be seen.

Certainly seen nothing to suggest he's worth what we paid for him, unless we are going by Bent/ley standards then the fee seems about right.

People seem to think that if you are moving then your work rate is great.

He moves slow as shit, he jogs into the box, invariably far too late or early, and shows absolutely no inclination to get back when moves break down, which is shocking for a CM, leaving his partner majorly exposed.
His use of the ball is pedestrian, not sure he even knows what a first time pass is if it's not a flick or back heel. four touches before he even looks up most times, and the wall has been built by then.

Would come last in a race with Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone too. (maybe get a photo finish with Sheringham though...)

Has been given the most chance of all our new signings too, not sure if he has some sort of play me clause but would hope not... But his technique is decent.

Of all the new siginngs he is the one i have been least impressed with...

I thought Paulinho may have escaped a bit of the negative hyperbole that pretty much every player in our squad is subject to nowadays, but he's just been compared negatively in the pace stakes to Dawson and Huddlestone.. yep ok..

On the whole I like him, he needs to do some speedwork and or some stamina work, as he is not very good at getting back quickly. However he does get into some great positions. of the seven new signings he is far from the worst.

Think he's shown glimpses and seems to be one of a small few that actually makes late runs into the box. I know some people have said he's looked abit off latley but i think he need a break. He's played nearly all of our minutes even doing 120mins after flying back from a brazil game so is bound to be abit knackered imo.

Can't believe some of the comments on here, really can't.

He's looked our biggest goal threat all season by a country mile. Could of had two against Swansea, another against Chelsea and Newcastle, definitely should of buried that chance against Fulham. He needs to brush up on his finishing when he has time but when he doesn't his reactions and instincts are as good as I've seen.

Can't wait to bump this thread several months down the line after he's scored a shit load for us, because he will do.

He's the one responsible for Soldado's only goal from open play as well, with a lovely assist against Villa. And yes he did it again against United for Soldado to spurn a great chance from a beautifully weighted ball.

He's been our most productive attacking player so far by a distance.

He's not a fucking striker.

He scored one in a game where he should have scored three, whoopie.

He vacated his position with little thought to the gaping hole he was leaving behind (was that a factor in Dembele being shot by 70 minutes?)

His "box to box" play is nothing, even Souness during half time in one of our recent games said as much, too slow to join the attack or too early leaving massive amounts of room attacking us centrally, and against better teams we will be punished for it.

I wouldn't even mind his jaunts to play as an auxilary striker if he could be arsed to get back.

He was better in behind Soldado because he could just amble around and leave the dirty work to the CM's but not in a CM 2.

I look forward to you bumping this thread though...

Do you think I give one solitary feck what Souness says?

Your assessment of him is dog shit however.

No your right, i should trust mr pink over Graeme Souness.

And time will tell on both our assessments ;)

You really think Souness has seen all our games this season? lol

And that's just a shit argument in itself anyway. FFS Glen Hoddle was a footballing God, have you heard his thoughts recently in who we should pick and how we should play? I'm still having sleepless nights after hearing him!

Just because he's said it doesn't mean he's correct.

Perhaps Souness has influenced your opinion, doesn't mean he's correct either.

I'm going by my eyes, if a pundit agrees then i can quote them irrespective of your thoughts on their merit.

And as for Glenn, he can only go on what he knows of our players, he has coached/managed a few of them. But doubt he's seen much of the new boys. If he was training with them every day i'm sure his opinion and therefore team selection would alter.

an excellent player who is still trying to find his way in the PL...he is playing in a new league having come off an international tournament during the off season. He looks tired for that reason. FFS give the guy a break. He's not as bad as some make out. Thank God we have professionals managing the team and not you lot :D

He's a tricky one to judge so far, on one side he was one of the brightest stars at the start of the season controlling games and stroking the ball around nicely. However.... When we've been put under pressure it's normally him that makes the error or weak challenge that loses possession.

I feel as though he will be very good for us in games that we control and dominate however in the bigger games when you need a bit of steel in the middle of the park to win the midfield battle (a huge part of the game over the past couple of years) I think he's not quite up to the pace of the prem yet and can be dominated/overrun.

I've seen glimpses that suggest it's just a matter of him getting used to the nature of the prem but there have been quite a few times that he's been weak in a 50/50 in the middle of the park and turned over possession leaving us horribly exposed.

I like him, but I think he needs to play alongside a DM like Sandro or Capoue for us to see his best qualities.

Yep he's definitely not a defensive midfielder in his own right.

I think he's a bit like Holtby in a way (although different styles). Neither could play as a defensive midfielder, and there will be games where you wouldn't want them as part of a midfield 2, but at times they'll be fine in that midfield 2 and both can play further forwards.

Generally, as long as Sandro or Capoue is playing, I'm not over concerned about our central midfielders as between Capoue, Sandro, Holtby, Dembele and Paulinho we should always be fine.

It's what we do with the attacking wide players that still seems to be more of an issue.

Paulinho has been one of our best signings thus far from the summer transfer window.

It's only a matter of time before he scores into double figures.

Paulinho's a very good acquisition. Perceptive passing from deep and driving forward in to the box.

He drives us forward.

He will score lots of goals for us which is a massive bonus with him not being a striker.

Good player.
