I'm going by my eyes, if a pundit agrees then i can quote them irrespective of your thoughts on their merit.

And as for Glenn, he can only go on what he knows of our players, he has coached/managed a few of them. But doubt he's seen much of the new boys. If he was training with them every day i'm sure his opinion and therefore team selection would alter.

I never said you shouldn't quote them due to their merit or it being questionable lol Just don't expect it to be universally accepted as the be all and end all so you can 'win' a disagreement. Its far from it.

Come to think of it, was it his cross for Siggy's second against Norwich as well?

I have said since August the same things about him, and what needs to be done to get the best out of him, and for the team:

- Three man centre mid is where he should be played, gives him license to get forward. In a two man midfield it leaves us a bit open and vulnerable to counter attacks.

- Don't like him and Dembele as a pair really, it worked against Sunderland somewhat, but there has been a number of games where it hasn't.

- A three man centre mid means he is higher up the pitch, and less involved in build up play. I think this is ideal. He has a tendency to dawdle on the ball and not release it quickly. Keep him away from the play and focusing on late runs into the box.

- I do think that defensively, especially in the second half of games, he often abandons most of his defensive responsibilities and leaves his midfield partner with an awful lot of work.

- Has wasted a number of good opportunities this season, however I will finish by saying that if and when he does find his shooting boots he should be a 10-15 goal a season player and this is such an asset to have. I think he should turn out to be a crucial player for us, providing he is in the correct set up and finds his composure in front of goal.

Ooh, didn't realise i was so close to winning the disagreement but for my choice of pundit...

I won't hold out for any apologies in later bumps on the thread :D

Just like loads of spurs fans never got Carrick, they won't get Paulinho once he's settled, until someone like Man Utd come along.

Think he has done well so far, and the only midfielder willing to get in the box and get on the end of things.

Overall I would say he's been pretty good, and when you consider how we've played and trying to integrate so many new faces.

But I expect to become very good. He definitely has the talent.

Judging by your avatar, I'm not sure you'll be about to receive any lol :)

He is a funny one. Sometimes his touch is more Bristol than Brazil and his passing can be terrible but you can see what he'll bring to the team. @mpickard2087 a few pots up sums up what we'll need to do to get it.

I think we have ourselves a great player but needs time to adapt to PL, England & AVB's football system.
In the long run, I think he will be an outstanding midfielder!
He needs to be rested though...well for Europa and then comeback refreshed in the PL...

I think he's an excellent player and I can see why he's the first name on the team sheet for the midfielders.

And if you don't think he's Brazilian: That flip flap elastico on Riise from the corner flag about 0.5 seconds after turning in the Fulham game said it all. Incredibly talented player.

If the guy could pass more than 15 yards and actually finish he'd be world class. Does everything else brilliantly mind.

i'm not his #1 fan, for me he's a bit of a passenger, a midfield-striker go-between type - like a tim cahill or kevin nolan. his value to the team depends entirely on goals, he's going to have to hit close to lampard numbers for me to value him as a 1st choice player. that said, i wasn't particularly impressed by ramires when he first went to chelsea but he improved a lot so hopefully paulinho goes the same way.

I wonder how much money he has made us in terms of sponsorship, this is a big year and companies in Brazil are throwing money in to sponsorship deals

Paulinho has been one of our best signings thus far from the summer transfer window.

It's only a matter of time before he scores into double figures.

I must have some elevated automatic reaction to seeing onions, because my eyes are actually stinging looking at that:cry::cry::cry:

Regarding Paulinho, he will come good-he has a good all round skill-set, which makes him useful all over the pitch. He also has a decent touch, which is fundamental to the way we(us AND AVB) want to play in the long run.

Yeah, he seems a lock for a starting role with Brazil so just from that alone I'm shocked with some of the responses in this thread. Excellent player in my opinion. Does everything well. Had he had a bit more composure in front of goal 2 or 3 times this season I think it'd be a different story in here...He will come good? He's already been very good for us, him and Vlad are easily the two best from our new signings so far.

He could easily be sitting on 5 or 6 league goals now - and if he were I suspect a thread would of been created hailing him.

I'm betting he finishes in double figures for the season, and next season he'll hit 15 odd goals if he avoids serious injury.

I'd give him a solid 7 for the season so far. Very happy but as my school report always said "can do better"

I think for what he offers offensively, which is purely late runs into the box, his workrate off the ball is terrible

I thought I saw him do that!

No bloody replays of it though.

The shot was woeful but his skill to develop the chance against Fulham with close control inside the box was fantastic

I really think once he settles and plays to his best regularly he'll be our Lampard in terms of being a source of goals from midfield
