I have to agree but then its a tough one as Eriksen does pull stuff out of the bag

If you look at one of the poochies systems he used at Southampton he would use Ward-Prowse alot at CM instead of the box to box player.

I said before the start of the season I think Poochie will play Lamela at AM and move Eriksen to CM. However I think he may of found his Ward-Prowse in Mason.

Against teams that aren't going to try and overrun us in midfield I would go

Soldado

Chadli ------ Eriksen ------- Lamela

Capoue ---- Mason
All of sudden with Mason you have someone who links up the defence and Capoue(since they go sidewards and backwards) to the AM.

Then in Soldado you have someone linking up with AM and creating space for them to get in behind whereas Ade does drift alot.
I don't disagree necessarily, but that midfield puts the onus on Capoue to be very disciplined.

I have to admit, with a player like Schneiderlin taking out people left right and centre, it does make the system much better

Ryan Mason's appearance this afternoon changed the game and I'm sure has left Mauricio with a lot of thinking to do. Without him coming on the game seemed destined to be an awful home loss against another hard working side. What is so positive for our future are the academy players coming through even if it has taken one or two of them time to be recognized.

Always liked Mason, used to love watching him Townsend and Caulker in the youth team. I havent seen the game tonight but look forward to seeing some highlights

Right with you buddy. Shame it just took the 5 years to get there!

Yes it's strange.

Townsend and Mason both impressed me in that Youth Cup match. I remember Mason was slight but he had a good touch and vision.

Well done Ryan!

Just watch from the 65th(ish) minute onwards (i.e. when Mason and Kane come on).

People can say that it was only against a weakened NF team, but Mason came on and changed the game. If Paulinho can't have any effect against them, then Mason has to play instead of him more regularly. It was nothing spectacular (bar the goal), but he moved the ball quickly with crisp forward passes. Poch must have been happy seeing one midfielder playing the game they way he wanted it (although I thought Benji was good too).

I also thought the fullbacks played well. Hating the two inverted wingers at the moment. I would rather one natural winger with Lamela, which means it needs to be a left-footer as well. Townsend wasn't too bad either...

You weren't alone there. Hindsight, mate
Haha it wasn't hindsight, Paulinho is a horrible footballer to watch. You could see from pre season that Mason was a better player.

He is horrendously injury prone though, if Mason can stay fit then it should be Capoue, Dembele, Stromboulj, Bentaleb and Mason as our CM options.

Agree with this.

After last night it is even clearer that -

Paulinho should never play for the first team again. I'm hoping he is one of the senior players that Poch is pointing a finger at when he says he will start dropping players if they do not perform; because for me he has failed spectacularly so far.

Bentaleb needs to look at Mason and learn from him; he has to look for the forward pass more and not do a 'Ray Wilkins' i.e. keep passing it sideways.

Kane has to play ahead of Ade, preferably in a partnership with Soldado.

Baldini has to go really. Soldado and Paulinho were never suited to the way we play.

Ridiculous signings and a big waste of money.

Can Mason tackle? does he have any pace? tactical discipline?

If he doesn't have any of these attributes I wouldn't trust him in central midfield. Further forward he could be useful though.

Yes he has pace not sure how quick but he has pace and he can tackle. He is also very creative and can score goals. His weakness is injuries if it was not for them I am sure we would have seen him start more games.

He is in our EPL squad also if he was not surly he would not be allowed to play in the league cup?

I still think bench for Saturday and definitely get some good game time in the 2nd half. If he starts and we get brutalised it will knock his confidence very quickly

I don't think it will dent his confidence. He's beyond that now and just wants to play games and prove a point.
