If we signed McCarthy instead of Soldado, I cannot even begin to imagine the extreme levels of pure vitriol that would spew out of these threads.

Are you OK ?

If we sign McCarthy it will not be instead of Soldado but as well as. At the worst it will be McCarthy and another striker.

With the way Valencia is leaking the story, I wouldn't be surprised if this thread touches 500 pages.

If the Tax law is true, then no wonder we have to meet the buy out clause, as anything over X million is pissing in the wind as far as Valencia are concerned. €30m Tax free vs an offer of €26M plus add ons but -VAT for example ... you can start to see the issue.

Yes, IF Valencia were happy to have a player or two and pay us for them to even things out, then sure, but I don't think that is what is going to happen here. It will be a pay up or shut up scenario.

Seems though that Valencia would at least accept a payment over time as long as the entire fee was paid, so there is still some hope.

They really are desperate aren't they?
They have a failed 400million stadium project - they are in as bad situation as Portsmouth. Their president is Valencia govt appointed fella. As long as they meet their premiums to banks, they are safe.

But with the way TV money is split (50% goes to RM Barca and rest to others), and having missed CL moeny this season, they are in a soup. They have to pay I understand around 8 or 9m by Aug 29. Their best player is Soldado and its quite obvious they will do what ever they can to maximise the deal for them.

Rather than just a link to a tweet, could we have the actual quote also? Saves mobile users having to constantly load another page.

Thank you :)

McCarthy is a midfielder, Soldado is a striker. How are the two related?

Agreed.

From what I pick up from ITKs is, the problm is with how addons are calculated.

Levy "allegedly" has addons as - If Spurs qualify for CL -If Spurs win PL-If Soldado wins world cup etc....

And Valencia wants to change it to some guarenteed addons like - number of games played for us etc.. This means they can atleast give Bank a guarentee of the sum.

oay morning I read in one of the blogs of Valencia reports that our addons go up o 28m euros , shor only by 2m euros

As long as both parties are willin to negotiate I can still see a deal happenning.

Ofcourse it changes if Liverpool come into fray...

“@mulu83: Valencia asking €30m excluding the fees, #thfc bid would have included that in the 30. Later bid reduced to 26 excluding the fees #vcfnordic”

Doesn't explain how the f**k we misunderstood something so simple when millions of Euro are involved.

"That will be 3 pounds excluding VAT."
"Okay then I will give you 2 pounds 50p to cover the VAT."

Doesn't quite work...

Because I suggested that we may be hesitating to spend the extra on Soldado because we have an agreement in place for Mccarthy. Ie we don't have enough for both so are battering over Soldado.

If that were the case Levy needs men in white coats to take him away.
As an indication as to why it may be true:

We were told that after Paulinho signed we had a budget of 50m to spend.
Take 7m for Chadli = 43m
Mccarthy price rumoured to be 20m
=23m
Aprox the gbp figure we've offered to Valencia.

We may want Mccarthy but Levy will never buy a player from championship club for 20m. Remember - player would in all honesty wuld like to move to PL. And we dont desperately need him either. It could possibly be somewhere around 12 or 13 million.

Why us ? We made an offer which included the agents fee they wanted a different offer. We seem to have rejigged our offer to reflect the removal of the agents fee. All seems logical to me.
