its nice to see a bit of optimism & positivity in a match thread!
long may it continue
long may it continue
Also - the players in the 2nd half who played in the four advanced positions today 'get' what Poch wants from a 4-2-3-1.
Watching Lennon and Townsend try and influence the game in the same system first half was painful.
Ceballos, Lamela and then Falque (Holtby) understand the style miles better
Yeah I'd love that! That's all I'd need! Thanks! (Excessive !!)Can link you a load of gifs if you want, don't think there are highlights
He did hit some very good first time balls but does look cumbersome and his touch at times was appalling but they've not had long working with the ball since returning so well gloss over that. Can see him starting both our remaining games on this tour so well see how he shapes up.
I remember AVB's first pre-season games, and from the start there were signs of the style he was hoping to impose - namely a tight, pressing game. The overall impression I got from today was that we looked far more fluid than we have done for a couple of years. Of course there were breakdowns in communication, problems at the back, and a few times when we lost our shape, but essentially there were indications of movement, quick passing, and some nice moments of inventiveness.
Just hope we don't farm out players like Ceballos and Falque again. Some really exciting play from both of them, and I'd love to see them given more opportunities. Probably seems like I've got the Carlos Kickaball glasses on, but they've clearly got talent, and they would offer something fresh and unpredictable to our squad (not to mention that it could help to massively lift their confidence).
Ultimately this game reassured me that we have plenty to be optimistic about, and Pochettino is taking the time to check out the squad he's inherited for himself, rather than jump to conclusions. As I said before, this game was a great opportunity to try a few things out, whilst highlighting the problem areas. The biggest plus for me was that there was far greater evidence of the players having some freedom of expression than we saw under AVB (with the exception of the unstoppable Bale train).
Good start.
Nah, I do it too.Does anybody else pronounce Capoue as Ca-pu-ey in their heads? I just don't feel comfortable thinking out his name the way it's actually pronounced.
Just me? Okay den.

Rose did fine today. People hammering him can hold off after those 45 minutes for a little longer and till he does something wrong again. But he covered well a couple of times and cleared one off the line. I'll take that sort of performance when he steps in for Davies next season as back-up.
No Davies, no Vertonghen, no Walker, no Lloris to keep them organized. Not terribly worried.Top post - and totally agree.
The only thing that has me a tad worried is our defense. I'm sure we'll address that though and a fresh reminder of not being shy of conceding a few goals here and there should do the trick - up and running on that count today!

Could use one more CB, but Vertonghen, Chiriches and Kaboul are a decent start. I can see how Schneiderlin would be a good fit in terms of moving the ball up field.
PP*You do realise several of them lot played in our hammerings last season mate ? lol
Yeah I agree though...but its still an area we need to address regardless.

Ceballos has been my most favorite and excited player since first day he joined us after GDS and above anyone else in the team now, always interesting to read news about him but no one on this site rated him much he not popular here, really hope he get more first team games this season. I think this boy can be use in any attacking positions-he's a dark horse indeed. Glad to see him play tonight( yes it's night in my country).
PS. Just a little about home shirt I never like the blue line across the chest so the collar too never fan of this collar, look the same template as last year just ruined it by add stupid line and put more colour on, will be perfect for the cycling team than football(should have helmet gear come with the shirt?), also never like the red AIA on it even I'm Asian but my family are the customer of another their big competitor Insurance company so I don't think it will effect more to growing fan in Asia by just sponsor are the big company here, I been spurs fan more than 20 yrs so I hate red.
