Good old BBC - Apparently it was a Salah masterclass in finishing and MOTD made it look like Liverpool hammered us.
As for the 'penalty' it was clear and obvious from where I was sitting and now having seen the replays of it, I am even more certain. How VAR cannot give that is a travesty.
Looking forward to Dermot Gallagher on ref watch saying there wasn't enough contact or some other such bollocks to back up the officials.

Take the exact same situation, but reverse it and have Royal/Sess pushing Salah over and I guarantee that is a penalty 10 times out of 10.

Yeah the kicking to Lucas and Doherty were both blatant fouls.

The thought is that if a player goes with the foot, gets the ball and then kicks the player in the head, it's just a genuine mistake and not considered dangerous because they were there first but on both occasions our player headed it first, then got the kick. That's a foul and Im certain had Kane done that to Konate as he's putting his head to defend a ball, Liverpool would have got it.

The ref today was a disgrace. I think its the same guy who shit himself when he gave Leeds a penalty and a red against Arsenal.

As far as I'm aware, the offence in question is a 'high foot'. Whether the player is going for the ball or not is surely irrelevant when the foot is at the same height as the other player's head when he's upright.

Haven't read through the rest of this thread, but posting my onions from yesterday's game:

We lost due to two lapses in concentration - two shit defensive moments cost us the game.

For the first one, I would imagine it was Davies who should have been marking Salah in the box, if not more than one player. There seemed to be at least 4 Spurs defenders around Salah but none of them close enough to block or tackle. Amateur defensive mistake but highlights again why we need signings in Jan.

For the second goal, well that's an easy one, I've been a fan of Dier under Conte, and I do think he needs a rest, but that was back to classic Dier mistake territory. However we did IMO redeem himself to a large degree in the second half.

We hit the woodwork again, twice, which shows how fine margins can be sometimes. And that was a stone cold penalty all day long.

I actually though in the first half we weren't that bad overall, but clearly 2nd half was miles better and Deki and Doherty showed what we need to be doing more of - taking the game to the opposition.

Overall, given our shite track record against Liverpool I felt that we were hard done by for not getting at least a draw in that game and I didn't see anything (other than the actual result) to be negative about.

I'm unsure about Kulu because Jota/Salah/Nunez/Dias/Firmino are of at least the same calibre if not better.

Romero is a good shout but is still relatively unproven.

Bissouma I disagree with because he hasn't even consistently performed for us yet.
To be fair to Bissouma he had a cracking game yesterday after improvements in every match he’s been involved in. He’s top class in my opinion.

I agree with you, my only misgiving being that I thought Kulusevski was very strong when he came on and I think he could have been put on at half-time in retrospect when you think of the difference he made.

First time that I’ve seen that, unfortunately it just reaffirms my belief that Lucas just doesn’t have any footballing brains. Any other player makes sure he gets caught there or at least feigns it. If he does then there can be no other decision but a penalty. Sheer stupidity.

If that kick was on richarlison he would have made sure he got 2 pens for it

Fucking hell how did we lose.

We are going to absolutely score a ton of goals in the second half of the season

Conte might need multiple windows to create a title winning team, but this squad shouldn’t be this easy to play against.
The idiots in the stadium don't even know why they're booing anymore. That was not worthy of boos whatsoever. It's getting fucking ridiculous now
It’s obvious why they are booing. Once again the team failed to turn up until the second half, by which time the best we could hope for was a draw. Throw in the possibility that one or two maybe have an eye on the World Cup, and I’d say the fans have right to feel aggrieved. There’s a very simple solution to all of this, if Conte is that concerned.

If you hit the woodwork twice, and have a clear penalty denied, and create the chances we did in the 2nd half, you'd have to say we've been pretty unlucky not to get something out that game.

That said, we absolutely must address these nonsensical first half performances.
It'll be the difference between getting top 4 or not.

It bugs me when we start slowly and allow teams who are suffering from a loss of form/condfidence to get up and running. I have lost count the number of times teams have not won at home or on the road until they face us. That said, the referee was abysmal yesterday, one clear penalty if not two and hitting the bar/post twice. Alisson pulls of a couple of good saves. Pool always get lucky breaks they did yesterday with our help for both their goals. I've seen nothing else from Pool that made me think they will overhaul us this season. Top 3/4 is ours for the taking if we carry on as we did in the last 20 mins of the 1st half and the 2nd half, we controlled it.

It cracks me up that Pool, Chelsea, Newcastle and even Utd are all considered title challengers or at least top 4 yet most of the media write us off. Yesterday before we kicked a ball Newcastle were discussed as top 4 /title contenders and yet we have been in top 4 most of the season and we get dismissed. Souness was the only one after our game to stick up for us.

We are still in ther top 4 in the next round of the champs lge and barring any major catastrophes at the WC we should be all good come the turn of the new year. Onwards and upwards.

I do suspect a fair amount of the boo’s at half time we’re directed at the ref who was appalling. Our overall performance in the first half was nowhere near as terrible as some are making out and second half we were very bright.

I’m surprised that no-one on here is mentioning the fact the ref (wrongly) stopped the game just before Dier’s mistake when one of their players (potentially Elliott) was down with a leg injury. This doesn’t absolve Dier of blame for the mistake, but it was completely against the rules of the game. Understandably more fans at the ground were focused on the penalty appeals, but I was surprised that MOTD didn’t even show the incorrect referring decision that lead to the second goal.

Absolutely
VAR would have not been really sure if there was actual contact,
Moura's reaction, or fucking lack of one, put doubt in their minds about how much contact there was.
And let's face it, they can't wait to screw us over without us doing ourselves in.
Go down like someone stabbed you in the eye ffs.

Yeah it's positive but I dont think he's done enough yet to get into Liverpool. Good enough for us though defintely.

First Goal.jpg

Image 1 - as the ball is played out to Robertson - Dier is next to Nunez slightly goal side - Emerson and Bentacuar are moving out to cover Robertson.
Image 2 - (3 seconds later) Dier is focusse don Robertson and ends up in in no mans land while Nunez is running into our area
Image 3 - 3 v 2 overload in our area with Dier out of position
verdict = blame Davies!!!
