Indeed but can't always rely on winning the home games. Need to win some on the road. We can't assume that we'll win the home games after losing the away ones. Not to say we can't do so mind, atmosphere should be electric for these big games.
Agree that we need to make sure we show up in the home games now that we've been unsuccessful in the away games. However, there's been 9 big six meetings this season and no away wins so we are clearly not the only team to struggle in that department.

The crowd will respond if we start fast. It sets the tone.

If we sit off and start slowly and they grow into it the atmosphere will be more subdued.

Surely Conte understands this

I'm sure he does, but apparently it's the players themselves who are determining the pace of their game in our first halves. It really does my head in.

It has to be between Conte and Hugo to get the players galvanised into moving the ball around faster than we have been doing in the early stages, and keeping the ball far better. We need to terrorise them. Bully their midfield and threaten their defence at every opportunity.

This has to be down to Hugo and Conte and their pre-match 'gee-up'.
Maybe the crowd shouldn't turn so quickly then? Need them behind the team from the first whistle to the last, and that is especially for when we play it around the back. Our fans get frustrated too easy and too quickly. That doesn't help the players if it is a slow start. Of course I would love a fast start, but if it doesn't happen the crowd can't get on their backs straight away.

But whose responsibility is it to get the atmosphere going? Should the players get the crowd going or should the crowd motivate the players?

Yeah for sure, but its just the way it seems to go.

But IMHO, a fast start should be a huge part of our game plan.

I've always felt it's 50/50. The fans get the atmosphere going pre-kick off and carry it on. If the players are struggling for whatever reason the moans and groans will not help the situation. The point is, especially in games like v Liverpool, the fans need to help the players through.

We lost to Newcastle. So an away win for a top six (as of todays table) has happened.

We were talking about winning the big games and I wrote big six in my post so not sure how you misinterpreted that.

Really hard to know which Liverpool will turn up - they are still a very good team with some excellent players and we will need to be at our best to get a result.

You'd hope so. Familiar scenario with a major rival looking for a result to kick start their season. Just for once, could we please start the game as if we want to win it.
Amazing that we are almost always playing other top teams when they are “in crisis.” Fully expect them to be on fire.

At least they will likely still play their starters at home against Napoli even though would take miracle for them to make up the GD. If thy gane was in Italy, I bet they’d punt entirely

The crowd does turn quickly and it really doesn't help, but sitting watching your team petrified on the edge of our box doesn't help either! Then when we do get the ball we can't keep it!

The team should give the crowd something to shout about, a tackle, a bit of skill, some closing down, then the crowd will lift them when it gets a bit tough!

So, if I am hearing you correctly - when the team is up for it and on the front foot, the crowd will cheer, but when the team is down and struggling, the crowd will kick them while they are down?

There's some mad stat that Liverpool have conceded a few early goals. If there a game we need to start from first whistle and go for jugular it's this one.

Since May, Liverpool have gone 1-0 down in...
3rd min vs Villarreal
3rd min vs Aston Villa
13th min vs Southampton
3rd min vs Wolves
16th min vs United
5th min vs Napoli
4th min vs Brighton
1st min vs Arsenal
4th min vs Leeds

they are definitely there for the taking.

FFS you've gone and done it now.

Once this phrase is uttered about any decent team we face, you can guarantee that means we'll lose, and they'll be an almighty meltdown on here because Liverpool (a team who recently beat Man City) were "there for the taking".

They won't have that problem with us.

We should be attacking them.
Don’t want to see Emerson or 3-5-2.
You've been a pretty strong advocate of the 3-5-2 over the last few months. Have you come to terms with the fact we don't currently have the players to play this system?

If I was a betting man (which I'm not) I would have a cheeky bet on us to score in the 2nd minute for a full house of conceding each minute of the first five minutes

Wonder what approach Klopp will take tonight as they have to beat Napoli by at least 4 to top their group. Interesting to see whether he will prioritise our game and rest a few.

Liverpool must beat Napoli by four or more goals if they are to leapfrog them into top spot in Group A when their Champions League group stage concludes on Tuesday night

We think they will rest players or think they have a chance ?

they always think they have a chance regardless of the situation or requirement. it's what makes them top-tier mentality wise.

often comes across as arrogance and entitlement but they rarely think they will lose any game where we on the other hand regularly shit it against all types of opposition.
