From what I'm told we have our targets set. That's about all I can say.
Aren’t you really worried about how bad we are and where we are going? It’s a very long road to being decent? Conte is great but the rest is pretty poor surely. The new Director of Football has already made serious mistakes. It just doesn’t bode well.

At least we got the subs we called for :cautious:

TBH I always thought top 4 was a stretch with this lot so on that front i'm not too bothered, we are not good enough. We all accept that and we also, as frustrating as it is, have to understand that results, at some point, absolutely will reflect that. We could easily win three games on the spin and then lose a couple, that's how it's going to be between now and the end of the season.

This team will not fluke it's way into the top 4 IMO. Right now I reckon maybe 6th and given the shitshow early season rubbish that's not too bad.

But none of that eases the frustration at losing to SCBC :(

The way we were getting overun the majority of the game, I was shocked Conte didn't go 3_5_2...at ht.
He seems to play 3-5-2 against bigger teams. But the way Southampton played, I hate to say, they played like a big team. 3-5-2 would be so much favourable than a 3-4-3 conceding so much possession in the middle but still allowing WBs some more time to defend.

That was totally down to Winks and PEH doing jack shit from the first minute onwards.

Actually thought there were some good performances out there today, notably Romero, Davies, Regi and Bentancur. It made it very clear who needs replacing/upgrading.

Fact is that you can't build a team with a non-existent midfield.

‘It’s no good’

He knows,
We know
(I hope next game he changes a few players up. Sanchez, Winks, Emerson, looking at you)

On a side note, I dont want to see Kane out on the wing crossing balls in for our wingbacks to miss. I'd rather see someone crossing the ball to Kane and see him bury it.
We are so inconsistent.

We all know this is a rebuild and we are still way short. We are targeting a CM, RWB, CB and a forward in the Summer. Today that was exactly where we struggled. Sanchez, Royal, Winks and PEH were all poor. Can't get Diet and Skipp back quick enough, and people laughed a couple of weeks back when I said Doherty was far better than Royal and should be starting, thoughts now?

You want credit for suggesting one of the worst full backs we’ve ever had is slightly better than one of the other worst full backs we’ve ever had?

Hojbjerg and Winks should never play in a midfield two. They might work in a three but if Conte thought Bentancur wasn't ready we didn't really have anything else available.

Absolutely this, a major problem in the first half especially was us giving the ball away from the back.

It was partly down to the CBs being too slow but the rest was down to the complete lack of options that a tactically, positionally and technically shit midfield 2 of Winks and PEH offered

They were both shockingly bad

I still can't believe we gave away 23 shots and 10 on target at home to Southampton, thats truly shocking.
And the worst part about that is they were 23 good chances too. There weren't that many speculative 30 yarders. On another day we could have conceded 6 or 7.

We struggle so much against the full press. And every time we struggle, the next manager puts on the video and we are up against it again in the next match. Don't be expecting Wolves to sit in a mid block on Sunday, it's going to be full-on, 100% press in every area of the pitch for 90 minutes, again.

At least Bentancur looks like he can play in tight spaces. That's two we have now.

Love how fans spending hard earned cash going to games helping to pay these players wages are spoiled children & cant boo the people earning millions to...wait for it...kick a fucking ball around. Its crazy how much people yell at others for booing. Get over it.
"I've paid good money to watch this. I'm paying their wages. I deserve to see them play well. Boo-ho. Poor me............BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

Spoiled children.

The only counter I'd have for that is that the teams around us are just as bad really.

We have three former RBs playing in the Premier League that would walk in to our team ?

Little chance now for top four. Conte has declared us to be a poor little club with little expectations and now he is proving this. Teams come expecting to boss us

I think Aurier would have stayed, and flourished had Conte come in. Massively underrated full back. Shame really but he was always going to leave with a year left. Still, paying him off seems really dumb now considering we could have just kept him around when he would have left for free anyway.
He was often criticised for not doing his defensive duties and his attitude was so bad we literally had to pay him to leave. No way Conte would have put up with that given how he's treated others with similar attitudes

Just got back from the game. Obviously a bad day at the office and Southampton brought their A game.

Awful defending of sept pieces and crosses but that is nothing new with these players.

Most disappointing thing was our lack of ability to keep the ball.

Anyway first league loss under Conte aside from Chelsea, it was bound to happen eventually, we move on and hopefully bounce back with a win on Sunday.

Personally I’d mabye switch to 3-5-2 with Bentancur, Winks and Skipp when all are fit as think with the 3-4-3 in certain games we lack control of the ball.

Anyways not the end of the world, we are not yet the finished article, there will be bumps in the road.

Onwards and upwards.
