I voiced my concerns in his thread already.
Like for like with Dawson. I won't say he's shit because he's decent, but he's def not an upgrade imo

thanks, think I'd rather stick with what we've got if he's no improvement and wait for genuine quality

With regards to Fazio the answer is we just don't know. He might hit the ground running or might be a flop but until he has been intergrated into Poch's system we shouldn't judge. Enough pundits/people in Spain have stated that he is a good player and weren't sure why Barcelona hasn't signed him and also some of their fans have stated the same. Also would Dawson have got in the Europa League Team of the year last season? The answers simple.....No! So he must be an upgrade. We need to stop writing players off before they even sign for us.

Hahaha fair question... I don't know much at all as I am in my Shanghai bubble. But I just read a lot on here and slowly was lead to believe MM is the answer to all our defensive problems... So to summarize, I don't know much about either hence I was hoping someone could fill me in, on whether Fazio would be a disappointment to MM or not

Opinions are split. Probably good to peruse the FF thread! For what it's worth, he's excellent IMO.

I think its important to remember that when buying a player there are a whole host of factors that determine whether he is a good fit or not.

Not just whether he has pace or has good technique.

You have to look at the player from a bigger perspective; does he have determination, drive. How will he fit into a system, a squad - does he have a strong mentality?

I'll back Poch and his scouts to make the right recruitments. You can guarantee this decision wouldn't be made on a whim.

Fazio is 6 ft 5; Umtiti is 5 ft 11. I wonder if that will be a factor.

Height is not a factor for Umtiti. He is very impressive in the air. IIRC he wins more than 75% of his Aerial Duels. He is a smart defender, and dangerous in attack as well. Plus, he's versatile to boot (can and does play both LCB & LB).
Personally, I'd be ecstatic if we were somehow able to sign him this summer. But I wouldn't hold my hopes up.

Fazio is also much more comfortable on the ball. Umtiti is a bit uncultured.

Yes what we deffo need is to bloat our squad with more cover/average players.

Umtiti is pretty far from average. He is and has been one of the top young defenders in Europe for quite some time now. Arguably the best young LCB in France.
