:D Yeah, but everyone only likes them now that they're good and up there with the best. They've won the dfb pokal and the bundesliga twice in the last 2 years, where were people when they were going bankrupt in 2003 hm?

That's a fair point, but what people like about this Dortmund is not so much that they are successful, but the way they play and the fact that they have achieved it an honest, earnest way - through coaching and collective team ethic, rather than spend big on any single player.

Yeah I completely understand that, but it still doesn't sit right with me. The sheer volume of people suddenly claiming an affinity with Dortmund is annoying. But oh well, what do I care. We did the double over them this year and the more people supporting them the more people I get to mock :D S04, S04!

I think plenty of people have enjoyed Schalke in recent seasons too. Dortmund are just on another level though. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if Dortmund have actually spent less on players (and wages even) than Schalke over the last few seasons ? What do you reckon ?

I think if the ref gives a 2nd yellow on the penalty, we have just as many people if not more saying "the ref ruined the CL final and should never ref again". Clearly its a tough job where you can never win. Also doesn't help that most players are actively trying to deceive you into making rash decisions. Did Dante foul his opponent? Yes. Clearly it was a penalty. Did he recklessly kick his opponent and deserve a second yellow? Probably. Can I blame Rizzoli for not sending him off? Absolutely not.

I'll flippin blame him. Both Ribery and Dante should of been sent off. He should never ref again as it is. This is the second biggest game in football not a post season exhibition match. Bottled it.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for everyone to start supporting Schalke, I'm just bitter that they're jumping on the Dortmund bandwagon :p And no, we've definitely spent more. We broke the bank for Huntelaar both in transfer fee and wages. Magath spent a lot of money when he was in power (notice I say in power rather than in charge ;)). Dortmund's only big transfer was the signing of Reus for 18 million, but even then, they had this money from the Kagawa transfer. Apart from that they haven't spent more than 5 million on a single player in their whole team

Heh, fair enough. I've no particular dog in the Bundesliga. I did develop a rather sizable crush on Dortmund after going there to see Spurs play a pre-season friendly against them a few yrs back. What a fecking stadium. Just - WOW. Great couple of days spent in the area too.

It wasn't even anti-Bayern either. I was hoping Dortmund would do it simply because of the story of Dortmund in the last few yrs, Klopp and the fact that Bayern are the big bad perennial superpower.

To be honest I actually wanted Dortmund to win, purely because they're one of 'us'. In Germany there's always been a division between Bayern and the rest of the league. It's a weird situation which doesn't really translate into English football. If Man City and Chelsea didn't have their riches, and us, Arsenal and Liverpool were relatively poorer while United basically monopolised the rest of the league then I suppose it would be like Arsenal playing United in the final and then Spurs fans actually supporting Arsenal o_O

Anyway, turns out I forgot about a clause in Neuer's contract which meant that if he won the Champions League with Bayern then we would get €5m. Good job Bayern won afterall!
