I really hope we have other options as I just don't see how he is the answer to our defensive woes. A good rotation option but I feel we really need a top class defender if we want to progress to the next level.

I'm starting to get the feeling that our plan might be to develop Dier into a top class defender rather than purchasing one. A risky plan, but damn would it feel good if it came off.

Yeah, i'm sure your right, but it will take time so i guess we have to be prepared for more defensive displays like yesterday. Dier clearly has huge potential but i think it will take at least another season until we start to see what he is really capable of.

Top class CB's cost top money, Can you see Levy spending £20-£30m on a CB because I can't.

Which is why we are keen to promote youth or buy out of contract players as we dont for top class of any kind due to High fee and salary.

How good he yesterday. I think he will be first choice next season

Agree. I've never really noticed him, but I asked one of my West Ham supporting mates about him a few weeks ago and he said he's a very good defender. Not in the top bracket of players, but a very good all rounder. Pretty quick, strong, decent in the air and reasonably comfortable on the ball.

After yesterday I can only agree. I was impressed with him. Kane barely got a sniff and that's in part due to Reid who seemed to be the one tasked with marking him.

Getting him on a free and offloading Kaboul for a few million will represent very good business imo and save some dosh for the other weaknesses in our team (namely at least one striker, a quality CM player and a RW/RWF).

Not that impressive yesterday. We really need a faster and craftier version of Dawson, a traditional centre half who really attacks the ball in the air instead of standing back watching.

If he goes for free there'll be a host of clubs in the top half of the league looking at him. Would anyone prefer he went to Liverpool? I think we should sign him up but it could depend on how much wages he'll want. I can't see Levy matching the wages Liverpool would.

Totally disagree, thought he bossed our front line yesterday including Kane and would be a quality addition and he's only young too, nothing to dislike.

A few of my Liverpool buddies would beg to differ! After all, Siggy, Dempsey and Willian all preferred us for the money

To answer your question, no I wouldn't prefer if he went to Liverpool as I think he's a really good player and shows the right sort of mentality to fit in perfectly at a big club and even become truly excellent once he's fully adapted ala Gary Cahill

I'd take him in a heartbeat. Appeared to be quick, had good positional sense, and didn't stop and gog with his hand raised for any of our goals.

Fazio.

I think Reid would be a wise move...our CB are good in isolation Fazio great in the air and a good tackler, Dier young deceptively quick, Vertonghen has a decent left foot.

CB four of
Vertonghen
Dier
Reid
Fazio

Out
Kaboul
Chiriches

looks quite well rounded to me and a step in the right direction, 1 competent defender in and 2 error prone players who lose concentration moved on. Lots to like about that.

money in the pot, reduced another Non-HG slot. Makes perfect sense to me and that 4 has some good youth coming up behind it.

I think it all depends on whether we expect Dier to hold down a starting spot next year or not. If so then that plan is great, with Reid and Fazio rotating in as tactics/fitness require. If not, then I think we really should look for a top CB to add to the mix, let Fazio compete and Dier continue learning.
