We're not getting Depay now if we ever were, sadly.
Agree with all apart from Eriksen on the left, I thought he was fantastic there towards the end of the season.Disagree with Milner; He is a good pro & versatile; But this team doesnt need another squad player. We need a player to improve the XI. We struggled all season from left side, whether its left back or left wing. We tried Kane,Sigurdsson,Chadli, Townsend, Lamela, Eriksen,Lennon from LW & none worked.
We need a LW who is a upgrade on everyone in squad & becomes a automatic starter. If Depay is not that player, lets look for someone else but not Milner
I believe Depay may have single-handedly priced us out of the running for his signature.

There was something Bale-esque about that shot from outside the box. Who knows though eh? It is one of the areas that needs addressing, and it is abundantly clear we need instant impact quality as well as sell-on value. Would be a big fan of this move. Could have been a better shout to go for Depay over Chadli last year, although I imagine Depay has come on leaps and bounds where as Chadli has arguably stagnated, in form at least.
He worked there because it was an emergency situation. We had no one to get him the ball from deep, so Sherwood put him in a free role on the wing to receive the ball and have him two big strikers to target with crosses. This worked well against the weaker sides due to sheer individual quality difference.
However, in defending he was not great, and especially against the better sides.
Fair points.
I would like to think that the three behind the striker are not so predictable and can swap roles and interchange during games. Eriksen is capable of this, but just like when Modric played on the left, I look forward to him getting more of a chance in his best position.
That's debatable, considering Kono has performed well at the international level for three years now while Depay has just recently come into the fold and only just scored his first goal for Holland.
On his worldcup debut, after he assisted the equalizer. And he scored the second goal yesterday.
Depay is actually pretty strong, and for a winger he has a great shot from distance. This is his main difference with Kono I think.
Doesn't matter how good the shot is.Kono also has a very good shot from range, albeit not quite of the power as Depay provides. He does make up for it in shot placement nonetheless, which is what really matters. Therefore, there is no significant difference between the two as a result of such a a category.
Doesn't matter how good the shot is.
If they use it at Spurs they'll be singled out by elements as being greedy (see Townsend) and if they don't, the same elements will complain they don't shoot enough (like Lennon).

Personally I don't think Siggy takes enough shots with the technique and strike he hasThis is unfair on Spurs fans, as you have picked the two real extremes. No-one is bothered when a player shoots when they do not have a better option, likewise no-one is bothered when a player elects to pass when they can see someone is in a better position. The problem with Townsend and Lennon is they are terrible decision makers, electing to shoot pointlessly in the case of Townsend and choosing to pass instead of rolling the ball into an open goal in the case of Lennon.
If we take Siggy as another example, I don't think he is lambasted for shooting all too often tbh.
I didn't notice anyone complaining when Bale was banging them in all season from way outside the box - I think this proves that if the shots are good people will not complainDoesn't matter how good the shot is.

Depay and Konoplyanka are both paralyzed by playing with their head down at times (as are Townsend and Lennon) which slows down the buildup. Adding this to Dembele and Paulinho, possibly two of the slowest-thinking CMs in the league (is it any wonder that as soon as Paul got benched, Brazil's midfield became less of the Chernobyl-esque dead zone of creativity and begun to show signs of flow?) is a step in the wrong direction IMO.
