Can't make my mind up tbh. I can see the pros and cons, I'm sure he must have something going for him or else the Chav's would not have appointed him in the first place. If it is AVB I will support him and hope he does wonders for the Club.

This is exactly how I feel.
AVB or not though, right now I just want to know whoizzit since the suspense is killing me.

I always get my choice of managers wrong. Loved Ramos and was not keen on "H".
I'm clueless

It's either him or Moyes for me.

That seems to be where it's going if you believe the rumours coming out.

I think people are in favour of the idea of AVB- young, successful (in a far weaker league), plays apparently good football (see last bracket)- but for me Moyes ticks all those boxes too. He is pretty young compared to Wenger and Fergie and knows this league.

Maybe if he weren't ginger, you pronounced his first name differently and he were called Moyez- it would be different.

Oh and if he wore skinny ties.

OK guys pack it in. Put each other on ignore, whatever but don't clutter up the thread with handbags.

Hey...there's good money in second-hand handbags, these days...I say, let the littering continue (y)

If I can get my tuppence worth in...

No...you'll take up space where handbags could be collecting and, thus, interfere with my livelihood

Oh, and on the subject of the poll - happy, but only because there isn't an intermediate reasonably happy, but with some reservations option (y)

I am unsure about AVB but I think putting an arm round a footballer can only make him try harder which is not much help if the team has no tactics (or plays for a draw when a win would almost guarantee 3rd spot).

on the chelsea 'story', why would the chelsea players warn our players to boycott AVB? Surely if he was crap as they say, they would want him to manage one of theri closest rivals wouldn't they?
They could also be justifying what they did to him, by saying he is rubbish. They could be saying to Modric and Bale if AVB is manager, you should come to Chelsea.

I'm in the 'i have no idea' camp. Then again, I'd probably be the same with almost any new manager. With Laurent Blanc or Deschamps I'd be thinking about the last time we appointed a successful French coach. I'm probably quietly more confident in AVB than either of those two just because he's been there before but there are so many other factors to consider such as budget, which players leave. At least the majority of our squad are younger than him.

As for AVB himself, he was one of the most sought after managers in world football this time last year and I don't think you just lose that because of 6 bad months. Having said that the way he lost the dressing room at Chelsea was alarming, and his tactics seemed quite inflexible. He seemed to pick a system and then play it regardless of the players he had which isn't particularly clever.

This kind of sums up my reservations. They actually go back to the first time I saw his Porto team, I was expecting a lot because of the hype but what I saw was a team defending miles up the pitch with no pressure in the midfield. Some poor final passes and finsihing and some miraculous recoveries from the defenders kept them in it then Falcao and Hulk won the game comfortably. He started the same at Chelsea but the defence didn't have the legs and thats where his problems started there.

Without commenting on how accurate the story is I do think the players would be slightly less tribal than the fans and would tell their mates whether they rated the manager or not.

Before his stint at the chavs everyone had a burning erection to see him come to us

So he wasn't able to make them play free flowing fast attacking football. The chav team is full of old slow egos who only know how to defend.

I'd be happy for him to come to us.

I wouldn't be ecstatic if he was appointed, but he seems to be the best that we can hope to appoint at this time.

I think AVB would be an unmitigated disaster and I would be shocked if Levy gave him the job.

I don't want him, he was useless at Chelsea.

That's just massively too simplistic. Redknapp got Southampton relegated but was our most successful manager in the premiership era. Brendan Rodgers was rubbish at Reading but is now Liverpool manager (and was making people moist with anticipation at the thought of him being our manager), and we all know about Alan Pardew.

If he'd not been successful anywhere else at all then fair enough, but his record at Porto, including in Europe, speaks for itself. Sometimes people just don't fit certain clubs and that may have been the case with AVB and Chelsea. There may be legitimate concerns based on his time there, but it's lazy to say 'he was crap at Chelsea so I don't want him'.
