I'm assuming by Tony you meant Toby? If so, I thought he gobbled up almost everything in the air last night. For me he was easily man of the match. Dier had a very good game too. I can't believe Kane is winning the vote, but there you go, it's all subjective :D
I guess it all depends what you’re rewarding with your vote. If you’re going for consistent high level throughout, easily Toby, probably followed by either Dier or Højbjerg, but if you award it for the difference maker, clearing one of the line and making the other with a very impressive header did just that.

Really I’m loathed to give anyone man of the match (though I did) in a win that was more about the collective anyway. Organisation, resilience, battling, that’s what win this match, because Burnley did what they do best which was bringing us down to their level. Ours why I’ma bit perturbed by the slashing off being fished out to both full backs, as they completed their primary objective which was to stop Burnley dominating us in the air.

Davies and Doherty (going off whoscored) were dribbled past one each. Doherty won 7/8 aerial duels, Davies 3/5. Only Tarkowski from Burnley won more than Davies with 5/7, for some context. This against a side who’s entire game plan relies on dominance in the air. Then on passes, only the centre backs and Højbjerg attempted more than them with Davies achieving 78% most likely due to him putting in more crosses while Doherty was a good 84%, our overall average.

In a game where our main weakness so far this season happens to complement the opposition’s main strength, both players did their jobs well and deserve far more credit than they’re getting, particularly Doherty who apart from being beaten once performed highly on every metric. Like Mourinho said afterwards, he could have had Reguilón on to be more attacking, but then we might have lost something physically and rather than score more, we’d have been more likely to concede. I can almost guarantee that if Davies loses 2/5 aerial duals, Reguilón is losing all 5.

I understand people's frustrations with moussa's passing. He definitely slows things down. That being said I thought he played a specific role very well. They were really bullying us at times and he stepped up and put the boot in back.

I'm not suggesting we play like that every game but moussa deserves credit for that. A load of their players were sent away with their tales between their legs after tangling with him.

Yeah I don’t really recall either Toby or dier winning much in the air, but both were superb along with Peter in defence against a horrible Burnley.

genuinly thought we looked out of ideas going forward until Pamela came on
Dier won 5/11, Toby won 4/10.

Doherty won 7/8 and is being slaughtered.

Lloris - 8 - Safe hands all night, good distribution.
Doherty - 6 - Not his best game, but he defended aerial balls well and this is why he was in the team.
Toby - 8 - Very solid tonight.
Dier - 8 - Another strong display against physical forwards.
Davies - 7 - Does not offer much going forwards, but an important block and steady defending.
Hojbjerg - 8 - Gave us extra solidity.
Sissoko - 6.5 - Definitely did a job to help defend, but hides when we have the ball and a reason the CBs had to go long so often first half.
Ndombele - 6.5 - Didn't really influence the game as I would have hoped and his passing was a little off.
Moura - 5 Totally anonymous offensively.
Son - 7.5 - Another goal and looked most likely of all our players, but not as much movement as usual.
Kane - 7.5 - One great defending header and assisted again, but was not sharp enough during the most of the game and was often easily blocked.

Lamela - 7 - Big improvement on Moura in this game, maybe should have started.
Lo Celso - 7 - I would have started him over Sissoko if I am honest and I think we'd have been better offensively throughout, but more open at the other end. Who knows how that would have played out.
Rodon - n/a - Did he even touch the ball?

Jose - 8 - Picked the right team for a wet and cold mid week game at Stoke Burnley.

I just don't like these kind of stats. What is it worth to win the aerial duel if you head it straight to their player? Then I rather lose the duel but make sure the opponent can not do anything productive with his won battle because he was troubled enough by the defender.

I agree on the physically side. It was a clear match plan by Jose and defensively it worked out pretty well overall.

Given that Doherty was guilty of one instance of losing possession, I think it’s fair to assume he wasn’t heading straight to their players in those 8 headers.

Have to say I've been very impressed with PEH since he's arrived - one of the most disciplined players I've seen in a long time. Knows where to be all the time and can sniff danger brilliantly. Superb buy so far.

Was more of a general opinion for using these stats. Like Dier and Toby lost some aerial duels still they were in fully control in 95% of the game.

When you say loosing possession is that tackled?
He had more than 1 pass that didn't make it to one of our playedd

8, to be exact. But that also includes balls out of play etc no?

Spurs app has it a few more, but most were crosses. Something we didn't do well on either side.

Thought he was ok today.
We looked more solid with the fullback not pushing up as high and Sissoko and Hojbjerg sitting Infront.

Toby MOTM.

Not convinced at all about Doherty so far.

Höjbjerg one of the most important players already.

It’s almost a bit weird that we seem to be playing more attacking vs sides who themselves are more attacking.

No stand outs for me. The game was built on disciplined performances from Hojbjerg and Sissoko. If we'd bagged the points v West Ham I could quite easily imagine us getting nothing last night and PEH and MS nailed down the midfield. Kane had 2 crucial moments and Son had 1. Ndombele worked hard but maybe struggled a bit in the conditions. Davies was Mr reliable again but we really, really miss Reguilon. Lloris caught a couple of crosses that he'd have been slaughtered for if he dropped them. Game sort of went up a gear when Lamela came on.

PEH been absolutely brilliant for us since day one. such a warrior and leads by example in every game. that's what imo we've been lacking for a while. Toby was also great winning most of his duals against tough Burnley players.

Would also like to add that Mourinho giving Lamela the chance before players like Bale was really important. His aggression on the ball made a difference against a defending Burnley team. Genious.

Not a great game to watch, but holy shit 3 points was amazing. This is the games you have to win to make the title race. Love it. ON TO THE NEXT ONE
