At least you are giving him a chance. 90th minute he came on. Not surprised he wasn’t wonderful.
Moura is just coming back fro injury. First 90 minutes played in a long time..
Seems to me like you want everyone to be fantastic 100% of the time.
Was it that late? Fair enough.

Not sure where you get that impression from. Check my posts, I very rarely make comments about players performances.

Tottenham assistant boss Cristian Stellini to BT Sport: "The performance, we have to analyse. We repeat the same routine of the last three or four games - not starting well in the first half. We didn't use our intensity in the first half. We let them play too much in our half and we lost the pitch. They had control of the game.

"In the second half when we changed to 3-5-2 we had more control of the game. We played a good second half."

On whether he enjoyed being in charge: "Yeah. I enjoyed it when we won. These guys deserve to win because we were a good team. We have to show it for 90 minutes. We have to work to show again for the whole game and not to lose one half every game.

So again a clue that it's an issue we're aware of and trying to resolve rather than Conte setting us up to do it. Personally I wonder how hard can that be but obviously there are issues associated that make it not as easy as you'd think. But we'll get there.

I assume he is trying to strike the right balance, but he is failing. Perhaps his instructions and expectations are too rigid and the players feel that they can't improvise? It is a very rigid system.

It is clear that we are more effective when you play positively.

It does have to be said though that this poor first half issue predates conte and was a feature towards thd end of the poch era.

As you say, there are clearly deeper factors issues at play.

It's fucking cheery in here isn't it.....

We did win the group. Could have been much worse. Especially without 3 of our best 4 attackers available when we were 1-0 down at HT.

Did anyone else just watch the second half? Took an educated guess that the first half would be dogshit and got an hour of my life back ?

I have been pretty negative about our approach and style of play generally. And I have not been enjoying our performances for most of the season. I think that is quite justified to be honest.

That shouldn't be conflated with not enjoying moments like last night. The dramatic win was great. They are two separate things.

However in regards to last night - I guess the fact that we turned that around away from home without, possibly, our most influential defender and 3 of our 4 first choice attackers means that a little more context should have been considered before I got dragged down in to real negativity yesterday. Just felt like more of the same at the time though.

He’s an annoying tit. Equally annoying was the commentator who kept calling Marseille OM. Just lazy and insulting. Never called us TH.

I just found it really bizarre how he tried to metaphor absolutely everything, and failed. It ended up just a random word salad. Pretty much any random on this forum could do a better job.

He pronounced Bournemouth as "bourne-mowth" despite being English, although I did find it amusing when he was talking about PEH he said something like "And that's Pierre-Emile......<<<<long pause while you can hear the cogs whirring 'how the fuck do i say that?'>>>>......yes good play there from him"

Completely agree and was probably a victim myself. I go in wanting a good performance but after 15 minutes of us sitting on the edge of our box giving the ball away, it's hard not to start being negative!

First half was poor again.
Second half the brakes were off and we got a deserved win, again.

PEH and Bentancur are driving this team forward right now. Brilliant partnership they have struck up and their fitness levels are ridiculous.

Another positive is that absolutely anyone seems to be able to pop up with an important goal this season. Since Kane's consolation against Newcastle our last 6 goalscorers are Bentancur, Sessegnon, Davies, Bentancur, Lenglet and Hojbjerg. None of them recognised goalscorers.

No one can accuse us of solely relying on Kane and Son this season.

I thought the Lloris & Lenglet interview after the match was very revealing. The mindset of the team was uncertain; they didn't want to go hung-ho from the off and leave themselves exposed to the counter, as a 0-0 was all that was required to qualify. As Lloris said, OM had an advantage right up until they scored; they could play on the front foot as they had nothing to lose. But as soon as they did score, they got the jitters and sat back as they were desperate to protect the one goal advantage. The balance then shifted, as all we had to do was score once.

This is true.

Personally, I don't think we could sustain that 2nd half performance over the two halves and then go again and do exactly the same vs Liverpool on the weekend though. That is an unrealistic expectation.

I also personally think that the quotes about 'lacking intensity' doesn't automatically translate to 'we were meant to play the high press but didnt'.

It is very clear that we are trying to soak up a bit of pressure in the first half of games and play a little bit more on the counter. Like you say there is a balance and we have to get better at winning back possession and keeping it/being more effective with the ball when we have it.

I agree. The issue is that when you allow the other team to press you high there it makes it much more difficult to retain possession, as we have seen in the last few games.

At our best last season we were very efficient and transitioning from defence to attack but it relied on getting the ball to Kane and son running off him. Once that avenue of attack is closed off we struggle.

Personally, I think that we aren't going to press high, all of the time, then we need to move up a little and do a better job of pressing a little deeper. We also need to learn when to take the heat out of the game, particularly away from home.

Sorry disagree. You need to remove bias and give credit where its due. After the lackluster first half, Royal gave us that spark we needed. One player shows the initiative and it encourage others to follow. He was breaking up the play on the right and playing pisitive forward passes. He is allowed to have a good game even though hes not a great footbalk player..
I am no fan of Emerson, but he performed well and helped settle the team down. Credit where it's due.
