I just found it really bizarre how he tried to metaphor absolutely everything, and failed. It ended up just a random word salad. Pretty much any random on this forum could do a better job.

He pronounced Bournemouth as "bourne-mowth" despite being English, although I did find it amusing when he was talking about PEH he said something like "And that's Pierre-Emile......<<<<long pause while you can hear the cogs whirring 'how the fuck do i say that?'>>>>......yes good play there from him"
He's a Poundland Sid Waddell.

A few years ago I had the misfortune of seeing Chelsea vs Hudersfield in the Premier League and was shocked to see the lack of composure and ambition Huddersfield showed where they had everyone behind the ball and continually cleared the ball long to absolutely no one. This is what Spurs resorted to in the 1st half last night. Come on lads, your better than that

I agree. The issue is that when you allow the other team to press you high there it makes it much more difficult to retain possession, as we have seen in the last few games.

At our best last season we were very efficient and transitioning from defence to attack but it relied on getting the ball to Kane and son running off him. Once that avenue of attack is closed off we struggle.

Personally, I think that we aren't going to press high, all of the time, then we need to move up a little and do a better job of pressing a little deeper. We also need to learn when to take the heat out of the game, particularly away from home.

Completely agree with this and I think better WB's, more competence from Son and getting Deki back will improve our ability to do this.

Not saying its acceptable that we are failing at this right now but I think it is possible to see what the 'plan' is regardless of the execution.

My take from the game yesterday:

We need new players in, we all knew his squad was very stale and in need of a refresh. As Conte has said it will take a few windows to sort out. Having Kulusevski & Romero (two of our best players from last season) out injured, as well as Richarlison (probably our best CL player this season) and then the injury to Son (last season golden boot winner) is a big miss for our squad. We simply don't have the strength in depth to be playing 2-3 times per week with key players like this out.

We have shit form playing against teams in France. Marseille are not a dog shit team and that stadium atmosphere is one of the most intense in the world. We had everything to lose last night and yet we did the job. They're also a team that has spent over £100m in transfers the last two season as well made a number of loans and free signings, they're not a totally shit team with shit players - far from it.

Yes the football this season has at times been woeful, but it's also been great to watch at times too. We're far too used to watching lovely football with fuck all results, let's give the Conte brand of football a full season and see what happens. Or at the very least let's get our knickers in a twist when it's actually causing us to drop far down the table or out of cup competitions.

First half was poor again.
Second half the brakes were off and we got a deserved win, again.

PEH and Bentancur are driving this team forward right now. Brilliant partnership they have struck up and their fitness levels are ridiculous.

100% this, both of them didn't stop yesterday and PEH looked out on his feet after that goal at the end. However I have to say Bentancur was a league above yesterday and nearly always tbh, his harassing, chasing down and running with the ball was a delight to see in the second half yesterday, rapidly becoming my favourite player.

Rafael van der Vaart on BBC Radio 5 Live:
Former Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart believes Spurs are cultivating "a winner's mentality" under Antonio Conte after they belied a poor first-half performance to win in Marseille and top their Champions League group.

Trailing at the break and having lost Son Heung-min to a head injury, Tottenham turned it round in the second half to seal a seeded place in the last 16.
"When I think about Spurs, I think about nice, attacking football, but now I see a team who says it's all about winning," Van der Vaart told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast.
"They don't see it as scoring a lot of goals. It's about keeping the nil at one end and then trying to score one or two at the other end. You can call it a winner's mentality.
"They don't care if they play well or entertain their supporters."

Van der Vaart stressed the need for Spurs to make the knockout stages and believes that the entertainment on offer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is not important - if the team keep winning.
"Making it through was the most important thing," he said. "They aren't playing the best football at the minute, but as long as you're winning, everybody is happy."

haha................"They aren't playing the best football at the minute, but as long as you're winning, everybody is happy." - Get your arse on SC Rafa :D

I live a blessed life, with a wonderful family, nice properties, a well paying career that I love, I'll go skiing soon and spend the summer in cyprus. Yep, truly miserable.
Personally I dont feel the need to brag about my life on a football forum.

You arent giving the players or managers a chance to build and improve. Im not stifling debate, the first half was a tough watch of course. But I knew we would have a big reaction in the 2nd half and that they couldnt press us like that all game.

I don't care how many years you have been supporting Spurs or whether you go to every match or none. You are relentlessly negative about the team as are 3 or 4 other regular posters who I cant be bothered to call out and it makes the match day thread very tiresome. Get behind the team and lighten up for once FFS. Rant over ?

Takes all kinds. I'll do me, you do you.

I dont come on here and tell people what they can or cannot say. It's a forum. As long as you stay within the rules you are free to say what you want.

I dont break the rules and quite frankly couldn't give a monkey's left, or right, bollock what you or anybody else thinks.

I'll support spurs in the way I see fit.

Just have to say what an absolute shambles their goal was. Zonal marking at it's finest? I don't know, but whatever it was, I don't ever want to see it again. Laughable.

I just think we weren't set as they took it quickly and we thought it should have been a goal kick.

Had nothing to do with zonal marking.

We switched off and they took a quick corner. They were allowed to do this because rather than turn and face the short option, sessegnon was too busy claiming it wasn’t a corner, like that was going to change the refs mind and their short option whipped in a good ball.

Nobody in the box was switched on for it.

The corner kick was a bit bit dubious but given and as it was all being set up I immediately said to my wife - they are going to score here there's nobody watching the back post - as I finished saying that - Wham. Goal. Well taken admittedly but a free hit.

I'm not sure what to make of this "never say die' attitude and the number of repeat performances which ultimately reinforces the belief that we can come back. On the one hand, you have to appreciate that is one aspect of a strong mindset. On the other hand, the fact that we are dipping into the well so often suggests we still its far from complete because you need to win some games right out of the blocks never looking back. The life of a spurs fan.

Wonder if they'll be retrospective action for them for the lasers and manager running on the pitch, thought he was going to try and tackle Kane lol

just watched Pierre 's goal and four things stood out.
  • The play started with a pass from Sanchez to Guendouzi who then made a lazy pass that triggered the break
  • Davies (I think) who had a decidedly unspectacular game anticipated it really well and stepped up to start the play
  • Hundson moans as Kane's little hesitation move froze Mbemba giving Pierre that critical last few centimeters to allow him to get the shot away
  • Gil worked his ass off to get in position for a rebound while Kane sauntered in. Great and worrying at the same time.
