I'm not sure it's so much a lack of balance as a lack of flexibility. Ramos is certainly a more adventurous coach than Jol, whose besetting sin was a tendency to circle the wagons, but in several games last season you were pushed to tell the difference in the way we played—result notwithstanding, we were hardly any more convincing at home to Sunderland than we were away, for example. Perhaps it's fair to say that both felt the limitations of the squad we had, and that this summer's signings are a major attempt at rectifying those—and that Ramos' undoubtedly greater sex appeal gives us more chance of doing so.

On the topic of missing out on transfers, and that we should've moved for Bentley earlier..which I don't think there was anyway we could've known the season he was going to have last season..

I definitely think we should've gone for Diarra when Chelsea sold him to the scum. They would've been more willing to sell to us than the ARSEnal.

We never had a chance getting him from the ARSEnal when he went to Pompey though.

I'm unsure on Bentley for the rumoured amount. 17m for a borderline England squad player, whose had some recent chances under Capello and hasn't exactly set the world alight????? Crazy money.

I'd just forget about the England stuff. Would you sign Gerrard on his England performances? It's the same argument as with Downing.

We haven't had much joy in our transfer dealings with Chelsea of late, and particularly since the Arnesen business. There have also been suggestions that we weren't interested anyway because we thought he'd be a loose cannon—the fact that Arsenal got shot of him after half a season when they could easily have kept him to his contract gives that some legs.

We moved out of the realms of 'realistic' transfer fees some time ago. What did Chelsea pay for Malouda? And what have they got?

Frustrating isn't it! Anyway I still think this one will happen IMO, Mamms and scout were both sort of pointing in that direction yesterday. Although city have showen an interest it does sound like he wants a return to London. Also think he has prob developed all he can under Hughes now and would like the impact of a new manager

I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be announced on Friday. Very similar to the Bent/West Ham deal where through it all, the player just wanted to come to us and lo, he did....the scout/mamms lack of info (compared to the frequency of it in the last few weeks) suggests that its tied up.

or that its fallen apart - ho hum

Is city really on the table or is blackburn claiming it to close the supposed gap between our 12 and their 17?

Isn't it a bit like Man U with us & Berbs - playing a waiting game in the hope of a cheaper price than the one set -

who will succeed - I know not

Not at all. Bentley has publically confirmed that he wants to leave Blackburn, which suggests that Blackburn really probably need to sell him. Berba hasn't said anything, so I expect he's happy to stay and we don't need to sell him.

looks like the bentley transfer still has a while to run yet! TBH im more worried about our LW and a new CB then bentley. dont get me wrong if we sign him great but our main concern should be LW and CB, and of course keeping our current strikers!

I think we just need to make an offer. If we value him at 12 and they value him at 17, we make a 13 million pound offer. Then let Villa or City try to woe him, because we have a pretty good idea where he wants to go. If they win him over, so be it. We then go back for Capel with that money and we have Capel on the left, Lennon on the right and Two Saints, who can play either.

Hi Flatters :) - take your point but I beg to differ with interpretation - It's true Berbs hasn't said he wants to go - but I and I suspect at least 90% of people who a view on this think Berbs wants to go to Utd if he gets the chance

Hi DP :) - it's all about opinions - but for me there's a flaw in your cunning plan - namely that neither Capel or any Seville player is coming to us this summer

some new here, after we agreed fee with Blackburn, Levy made new negotation over this move to change the terms for this deal to 'loan' deal until 31 august and make it permanent move in that deal, in case not to give Arsenal their stake to us them in new transfers until the transfer window closed

not my usual source .. loool I'm just jocking don't believe it !

It wouldnt surprise me if the hold up was in part because of the sell on fee, because Blackburn obviously want say 12 mill, but the transfer fee will have to be much more so that Blackburn get 12 mill after the sell on fee.

Or it could be because we know Bentley wants to come to us, so we are trying to get a better deal. Either way, I hope we dont lose sight of our other targets in the mean time.
