Isn't that like most of the threads in the rumours section?

Seems that way. Formations or finances it's one or the other.

Regarding the player. Ever since his name cropped up I thought the only way we would get him would be on loan. Real Madrid might want to see if he will still come good. But it seems that he might return to sociadad now which would be a shame for us.

Yeah, it's been frustrating generally in terms of transfer targets. Busy last day maybe?

It's looking increasingly likely. I just hope we have at least one in by this time last week or the Everton game could be very frustrating.

I stopped reading when you compare carrick with xavi or alonso.,,.remember how carrick fares in front of xavi in the ucl final of 2009 or 2011... Just for example the cross that xavi put on messi's head , carrick just doesnt have that ability...you can compare scholes with xavi or alonso but not carrick...carrick is good in that sense schneiderlin is good but they are not as gifted or technically efficient like scholes , xavi or alonso...

He 'fared in the UCL league final' (jesus wept, ok lets go there)..... Michael Carrick was playing alongside a mix of Ryan Giggs (in Centre mid!! on both occasions) Park Ji Sung, Valencia and Anderson in those Champions league finals.

Xavi, played alongside Sergio Busquets and Andreas Iniesta (my favouriite player) at that time, I said he was on the same level as Xavi not that he could single handedly take on an amazing Barcelona 'team'. I am guessing what you are suggesting is if you put Xavi alongside Anderson and an aging out of position Ryan Giggs they could out play that Barca midfield is just silly.

As for Scholes, well dont get me started on how good Scholes is, he is probably the best English player for the last 20 years and like Carrick was massivley underrated by some.

The fact is if he had played in SPain or Italy we would be using his name in the same breath as Pirlo, Alonso and Xavi.... Just because we have no understanding what a tactical player is in England does not mean, he is average.

And 'stopped reading when' makes you sound like an idiot.

Xavi actually the spearhead of that barcelona team ..YES XAVI , NOT YOUR MICHEAL CARRICK ... Do you think If Carrick played on that barca or spain team instead of XAVI then spain or barcelona went onto winning everything they could have ? And what's up with your comparison of park ji sung , anderson or old ryan giggs played in the UTD side that's why carrick didn't shine ? Then how they played in the champions league final ? Your comparison is just so wrong with every possible sense ...

No , I have said scholes is as good as xavi and naturally gifted like him... But not carrick and if you say carrick is as the same level as xavi you are just OVERRATING him ....

And lastly when you say carrick is same level as xavi , you have just made yourself IDIOT .. Sorry not idiot , A TOP CLASS IDIOT..

Remember when we signed Modric early in the summer that year? If only that kind of inspired signing was the rule rather than the exception!

Fuck's sake, man up, gentlemen. Posts moaning about ratings are every bit as annoying for the rest of us as an unexpected Spam rating notification is for you.

Correct and don't usually care.
But running through a thread spamming every post is a bit much.

As I wrote early in this thread, Illarra is more of a Spanish Carrick. The hope would be that Poch can improve his defensive side as per Schneiderlin's interview last summer, by coaching Illarra's defensive positioning to block passes and limit opposition options etc.

At his best, such as when playing for the victorious Spanish U21 side which led to his big money move to Real, Illarra was the hub of the team with much of the play going through him. This was never going to be the case at Real, and it may take some time to get back his confidence and willingness to play early, forward, quick passes.

Bentaleb is a much better athlete than Illarra will ever be. Based on some of his Academy games, I'm not convinced we've seen all that Nabil has to offer. He's been used by both Sherwood and Poch in a disciplined CM role, filling the gap when other players go forward etc. My sense is that Bentaleb could develop over the next couple of seasons into a physically dominant CM, capable of bossing the centre of the field and occasionally bursting forward to great effect. Illarra will never develop into that sort of player.

Of course Bentaleb has to get his confidence back first, get into the groove of passing to his teammates, pressing wtih energy and doing a job for the team.

Illarramendi:
2012/2013 Real Sociedad SLL 32 2731 3.8 2.3 1.6 0.1 1.6 1 - 7.25
2011/2012 Real Sociedad SLL 16(2) 1459 3.4 5.2 1.5 - 1.2 0.7 - 7.30

2014/2015 Southampton EPL 24(2) 2188 3.7 2.6 1.8 - 1.7 1.3 0.2 - 7.51
2013/2014 Southampton EPL 31(2) 2767 3.4 2.1 1.5 - 1.5 1.2 0.1 - 7.21

Illaramendi definitely does have very good defensive abilities, I remember it being mentioned when he moved to Madrid that he had some of the best tackling and interception stats in the league.

Yep, you have to almost forget what happened in Madrid, where he was asked to play a different game altogether.
