Does anyone think he would choose us over Liverpool especially with the starts to the season that each team has made?
I don't know if he would. Thankfully, Liverpool aren't actually interested in him according to Liverpool Echo journalists.

Liverpool are actively looking to offload Lucas even though he played tonight and played well for me, so maybe once he's gone they'll come in for this fella

London is a massive pull for players though. Probably the best advantage we have over (bigger) northern clubs.

we have finished above Liverpool 5 of the last 6 seasons. I know Liverpool has the history but we have been better lately.

With respect to @Trix, I think no chance on Illiarramendi. I think if talks are going on then its because we're a possible back up. But with our wage structure, no CL football and so on. First choice? Nah. Just can't see it.
He's on £60k a week, definitely within our reach.

This guy would be such a huge lift to the club and fans in an otherwise dull window and horribly boring start to the season

Er...Yes. He's about 5th choice, will barely play a game and wants to leave.

Any club is inferior to Madrid.
Exactly. He's coming from the best. Just because he is fifth choice doesn't mean he'll settle for whatever he's offered. Agents are shrewder than that.

If he signs it will be last minute and because he doesn't have a better offer. If that's not the case then feel free to call me a scumbag when the window closes.

And you think he'll leave Real for the same wages and football of an inferior quality?

Think about it....

VdV did. Its going to be tough for him to get a raise anywhere. He was a good player who didnt improve at RM for whatever reason. Its hard to argue his value has gone up. If there is another CL team interested than he may get a better gig than Spurs but I havent heard of any. Ive heard Sociedad want him back and Liverpool may be interested. If its down to those three than why not Spurs?

If no big club comes in for him I feel we have a good chance, especially this late in the window you would expect the bigger clubs to have sorted out their transfer activities.

I believe we would have a big chance in snapping him up. Pochettino would know everything about the player and I'm sure there is a level of respect from both parties.

Illaramendi has every right to look at his options but of course the longer it takes the more chances we may miss out. Unless behind closed doors we have been working very hard in persuading the player that White Hart Lane is the place to be.

I think it's inevitable we'll sign Berahino.
In terms of a DM if I was predicting it would play out like this, Illaramendi remains an option until a club in CL decide to enter the race and he signs for them. We have a bid rejected for Wanyama day before window closes, we remain hopeful of a deal as fans whilst the club rush through a deal for a DM not yet linked to the club.

I hope it ends with us happy overall but I think it's an utter farce that we sold Capoue, Paulinho, Holtby and Stambouli raising decent money and are currently playing a CB at CM whilst seemingly no closer to a CM signing than 12 weeks ago.

Really like the update from Trix, very encouraging. I guess the longer it goes on, the more likely it actually becomes. It almost seems as if a move is inevitable and we've already been told he's weighing up his options first. I guess the more time that surpasses, the less options he has and the more likely it is he becomes a Spur

I desperately want to be proven wrong but I still maintain that I think we have pretty much no chance with this. Not knocking the ITK, but if the club is that confident I think they're being naïve. No way will we get him.

As I say, desperate to be wrong, but I think he's this summer's Moutinho.

Figure Modders and Bale could a have word with him. Also just looking at our team, its quite clear that he will have an easier time breaking in and playing than trying to compete with Lpools 6/7 other mids.

Yeah they should have a quiet word in his ear, let him know the opportunities of coming to a club like Spurs:

"Here, Asier mate - you should go to Spurs. Good platform for you, show what you can do. If you do really well there you could even get a move to a big club like Real Madrid! Worked for us!"

*Bale and Modders high-five and scamper off down the tunnel together giggling*

The only time Liverpool beat us for players it's because they're willing to pay the selling club a fee which we won't, we always compete evenly on wages though.

Damn near everytime it's been straight head to head for a player we've always gotten the man over Liverpool.
