I hope you are right but I can’t help admiring glances at City and Liverpool’s front lines.

Salah has been so much better than almost anyone expected. I said not to write him off just because of his Chelsea stint.

Hopefully Coutinho will leave in the summer, or earlier, we'll see how they cope then.

I don't think we are underachieving this season, rather we aren't overachieving as much.

Personally think a real overhaul is needed next year, to regain vibrancy and gusto.

I still think we'll get top four.

I said at the beginning of the seaosn our home form at a new ground would cause us issues. I think injuries to Alderweireld and Wanyama are especially difficult for us.

Every team has bad seasons for various reasons but I think we are in a strong position.
Well let's hope so but I think both Liverpool and arsenal are stronger than us so it will be tough but if we get it then happy days.

well for a start they didn’t have numpties like Sherwood and Ferdinand anywhere near their scouting. Take a look at the scouting thread and honestly I think you will find more nous in there from posters than many of our scouts.

I think we have been better at buying defenders because defensive players fit our budget. Hence why we can buy Sanchez for £42m but couldn’t even think of buying an equivalently rated attacker.

It's one thing recognising a player, it's another thing buying them altogether.

An overhaul will cost a fortune and we don't do that it will be more of the same 2/3 in 2/3 out no change of company policy.

Personally I think we are suffering from the jose and pep effect
Shit fucks whispering sweet wages in our players ears just to destabilise us :cautious:

It' worked a fucking treat too.

No, basically we need to spend wiser with less scatter gun on hope for potential because our scouts don’t seem to be particularly good at finding gens.

Yes, if Levy doesn’t want a £1bn white elephant on his hands he needs to step up our purchasing and wages budgets. Come next season we will have the highest gate receipts in the league. Our top price executive seats will cost £7,000 per season compared to £4,000 at the goons. You can’t expect us, the fans, to pay more than any other club to watch the team and then serve up second tier product.

Spend wiser? The fact we're competing at the top of the table having spent only a fraction of what the money clubs around us have must tell you we're pretty wise with our spending.

Yes we are great in defenders and midfielders but lousy in buying attackers. Our league performance can be attributed to lucking out with Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Think there will be budget next summer.

Rose is going (£50m), Alderweireld is going (£40-50m), my instinct says Eriksen will also go (£80m) IMO of course.

If they go I'd be very surprised if we didn't spend £200m on 4-6 elite level young replacements.

This isn't me saying I want this, just what I suspect will play out (Barca for Eriksen).

Every season I read about how we are going to lose half our players but this season I could see us losing a couple.

Rose is likely to be off. Dembele may be on the decline but wouldn't gather too much of a fee at this stage of his career.

If we do lose a few players next season will be horrible.

We don't know if Toby is going but at his age the chance to win something is greater away from spurs no doubt, but it would be a shame if there was a mass exodus although I do believe rose will go.

Personally think we needed a bigger turnover this past summer.

Think of it as an opportunity to re-invigorate the squad, though I dearly hope Eriksen stays, the other two are gone (IMO of course).

So when our competitors get something right it's great scouting, when our academy produces a gem and we very wisely sign Dele, it's 'lucking out' ?

In my view such large scale transfers can destabilie a club.

Rose is almost certanly off in my view. Alderweireld good chance but Eriksen unlikely in my view.

So selling Rose, Alderweireld, Sissoko and Dembele would bring in around £100m. That's a fair few players to integrate into the team.

We're lousy at buying attackers yet when we bought Dele it's "luck". Was buying Son also luck?

I wouldn't call Alli, Eriksen or Son lousy purchases. We have struggled to buy a striker though.

As others have said the issue is that we now compare ourselves with City, United, Chelsea etc but we aren't even in the same ballpark when it comes to wages. As someone said earlier we could spend big on Sanchez because it's unlikely he's on massive wages - the fee has never really been the issue.

If it was just a case of being "a bit smarter" in who we buy then everyone outside of the really big money clubs would also be doing it. I think the issue is that it much more difficult than that - Mane is a case in point, he was a target, we made an offer but couldn't afford to pay the wages that Liverpool do.

I also think that attackers are at a premium and so it's not only about wages - if Dortmund or Monaco or Roma come in for a player they may well be a more attractive offer for some even though they get paid slightly less before they head off to the genuine big boys.

No disrespect but so many of these threads either show a lack of understanding of our place in the footballing money world or are just upset that the bigger kids get all the better toys.

They do, I know and it sucks but that's our place in things at the moment.

Not entirely sure why Barca would pursue Eriksen to be honest. He’s 25 now and still suffering with prolonged spells of poor form.
5 shite games at Barca and he is finished. He is currently well over that 5 game limit with us

Not just Eriksen but this goes for all the other 'exodus' players that get mooted the moment we have a shit result.
