Disagree with the OP but am bored to shit with all this shouting down a post which disagrees with whatever the herd mentality thinks this month.
We are, however, not as good as we were 2011/12 I agree with that. But that year we really had one hell of a team which in the end actually under performed.
Even so I really don't want to see many big changes. Players develop after all. Nor Bale nor Modric came here as the finished article. I can really see Lamela and Eriksen reaching a similar level as well (I don't think they ever quite will, but they have bags of potential the two of them) and I really believe Eriksen will surpass VdV level by the time he leaves us (at 42 years to the New York Cosmos, now a MLS team, after eclipsing the Greaves record from midfield. What?). But most importantly we need stability, the team hasn't really been a team since the start of AVBs reign really. A lot of new faces with few players having really been at the club for all that long. Stability really does help bread success.
But, this season I expect little. Liverpool have looked poor in the market, but then again have a good team. Man utd have a new coach and he will instill a wining mentality, the could yet fail though. Arsenal and Chelsea have strengthened. Man city are way above us. Everton will be no push overs. Getting 6th again would not exactly indicate the worst season this year.
So rather then thinking about league position I want us to just play with freedom and excite a little again. I want to see this team develop. I would love to go on a little cup run, maybe win something The Europa League may actually be the easiest way into the CL for us next year as well. But even with this little expectations, or maybe because of them, I find myself really fucking excited about the start of the new season!
Really agree with this!!!
Would be happy with better football, some good results against the top4, a 5/6th placed finish and hopefully sneak into a final whilst seeing a clear structure on the pitch and with the squad starting to emerge(stability as you said). If all that happened, which is very realistic i think that would count as a successful first season for Poch which we can start to build on eventually going into the new stadium one day.
