More gutted for the women's side than the men's. They were meant to play at the stadium, weren't they?

Hope they manage to play the rescheduled game there too but that might be hard.

Uefa will award the points to Lisbon if we don't play on Tuesday....

Uefa won't care about wanting it postponed.

This forum isn't a fair representation of the UK as a whole. Sure you will have pockets of people who DGAF but the UK is very traditionalist and its very blinkered to think more people would rather go to a football match and forget about the head of state passing.
I don't want to turn this into a big Royal debate, but that just isn't true at all.

We've done studies on this and it absolutely isn't small pockets of people. It's around 40% of the population.

One for the numbers people, but I wonder whether the FA could do something with the FA Cup third round, ie have more non-league and League 1/2 teams go through and the Prem teams come in at round 4, freeing up a weekend? Don't know if that's even feasible.

Great North Run goes ahead as planned on Sunday. I'm sure it will be a special and respectful event.

Imo if the games weren't called off we would have had a weekend of tributes that would have lasted long in the memory.

Chances are that if Mase is saying this then Conte likely shares the same opinion. In which case, I’m fine with the City game getting postponed, they had more rest than us. Hope the Leicester game goes ahead next weekend though.

And I think that is partly why they have cancelled the games. It is the respectful thing to do in my opinion.

I'm not sure why people are so annoyed that it has been cancelled. Just go and do something else instead. That's what I will do, I'll just get on with life. It's only football.

I agree that we all should respect the decision, absolutely. I agree it's probably the right thing to do this weekend as well.

But I hate that line its only football. Its clearly a big part of our lives.

We could still be in the same situation when the game gets rescheduled tho.

Agreed, and I don’t think jt was a terrible time to play them with Walker and Laporte out. We haven’t massively missed out on an opportunity though imo. If you were a Villa fan you’d be annoyed as you’ve likely missed out on playing Leicester before Rodgers is sacked.

Fair enough, maybe the "small pockets" wasn't the correct terminology.

What studies are these? Well that means 60% are indifferent or do care. Either way something are just bigger than football if we like it or not.

Must say I don't understand why cancelling everything is the only form of respect.

As others have said, gatherings at sporting occasions could of been used as a platform to convey some profoundly moving gestures of respect etc

Exactly this. Now everyone’s just sat at home rather than coming together. She had a horse running today at Epsom. Imagine the tribute that would of been.. Stadiums full belting out the national anthem all weekend. Opportunity missed I think

I completely understand why they would cancel the games but I don’t think it was the best choice. The reasons for cancelling - some abstract notion of respect - were outnumbered by the reasons to keep them going, which included the opportunity to publicly show respect.

they should have saved the cancellations for those games that happen on the same day as her funeral.

Also good that Leicester don’t have the chance to lose this weekend and replace their manager before we play them next weekend
