I think the issue is that Conte never rated Bergwijn and no longer trusts Lucas. So as bad as Son may be Conte feels he’s still our second best attacking option after Kane. Exactly why come summer we need to upgrade our attack.
Rate him or not he still changes games. And a better option than head down run at players Moura. Not sure Conte is gonna make it here. He seems to trust only 6/7 players in truth. We are never gonna turn that around in a window. And why should he expect it? A years contract is hardly worth us spending massive for him to just clear off and leave us with his rigid formation. I’m lost atm. We’re floating in no man’s land. Better than mid table but not good enough for Cl.

Strangely thought we played quite well. Disappointing not to win but if we play like that we'll win more than we lose

Plus I think something people need to remember is that they have just come off the back of being thrashed by Man City in their previous match. It was a really bad time to play them. I think that was quite a big factor as was them not playing Fernandes. They looked much better balanced if still a bit shit.

While I agree, is that our level still? If so we are only going to go backwards. United were shite, we cut them open at ease in midfield, there is something wrong at the simple base level of our club, and I really don’t know why or indeed what it is. I’m 40 now and my first memories of my support is Francis, and to be honest I loved those days. The toxicity of our fan base seemed to start when we were successful.

over the last 10 - 15 years, basically since Jol, we constantly hear our players pipping up *we have learned* *we will do better* and tbh it’s all hairy balls.

Lloris is the only real winner in the squad, but he doesn’t seem to push like her should. We need more guys who simply won’t stand for doing what we can, we need a driver on the pitch. As much as the Poch era done for us we always seem to have the attitude of being willing runner ups.
Appreciate what your saying but this toxicity thing is borne out of sheer frustration of where this club is heading.
We have probably the finest facilities in the country or perhaps Europe yet on the pitch the team is mid table what is the point in having such a disparity it's embarrassing.
I have accepted for years now that this is about as good as it gets with this club and that winning trophies is not for spurs.
As for the success you mentioned under poch we peaked but true to form achieved nothing, now the club has fallen back to its true level but to compound it even west ham are better than us these days.
When you consider out of the so called big six we are the only club that doesn't win anything even arsenal who have been out of the CL spots for years still have picked up 2/3 cups in the past few years that puts all our so called success into perspective.

We’re easy to play against. Let us have the ball rather than let us play on the counter attack. Ralf said before he watched how we lost to Burnley wolves etc.
we beat city cause they played to our strengths exactly like Leeds, they are both relentless pressure in going forward and we can play on the counter. Everton are just woeful who hadn’t won away since august.

I honestly wouldn't get too upset about that result. Our performance was good, and any other day we'd have won. We were beaten by Ronaldo and his inhuman movement yesterday, not that Man Utd team. We don't often come up against players of that level.

Better wingbacks, better set-piece coaching and better boots for Son and Davies, we could have won. No idea why people keep insisting Conte's system is not for us, not for the players or not working. His system has won him the PL and Serie A. If this isn't a case of not having the right quality of players, I seriously don't know how else can help us.

We were bossed in midfield; dier should’ve closed down the first goal; reggie .. well, off it; son & Harry well off it. Kulu a great asset… it is easy to pick holes when we lose … plus, I felt Manx had some good individual performances .. the difference was that they really wanted this game.. more than we did…. Plus they had Ronaldo :shifty:

The thing is that if it's a case of sticking with 3-4-3 then he's going to be waiting an awful long time to win anything, because he needs to upgrade practically every position of that formation to achieve something that incredible.

Let's be clear, what happened yesterday was that our manager chose to play the only formation that he appears comfortable or competent to play, with players that are demonstrably not well-suited to that formation. And our formation was not well-suited to counter our opposition's set up. That our players looked less good than they have against teams that committed their own players high into our half should not come as a surprise.
A system which has won him league titles in the UK and Italy. Perhaps some of our players don't fit that system but he has to start getting how he wants us to play engrained into the players. We are on a journey to being a consistently better team but are only in the learning phase for the players. When we make the squad changes in the summer those that are left will understand the new system. Those that are coming in I believe will also know it or will easily quickly adapt to it as the rest of the squad will understand the new system.

We have to expect hiccups along the way. Part of the reason for that is we have been playing far too many games using really only the players he trusts. Next season he should have a much bigger squad to use full of players he trusts.

Dier should have come out for the first to be fair. Any closing of tge angles may have stopped Ron picking his spot.
Dier defended that like he was in a back 4 where you don't want to get turned. With a back 3, the player in that position should be aggressive and close the space, trusting the other CBs to give a bit of cover.

The difference between the two teams was Ronaldo, even at 37 a World superstar able to win a game on his own and easily the best player on the pitch. I don’t see them scoring three with the team they put out against City and we would have shaded it without a doubt, imo. I’m just gutted because I see the gooners taking the final CL place now because of the lack of consistency of us, WHU and Manu.

Personally I found the defeat really disappointing but not bitter. Our recent defeats have all been so bitter.

Losing 3-2 away at Man Utd to a hatrick Ronaldo fashioned out of very little isn't a disaster. Even Conte saw positives in our performance.

That's despite Kane/Son both having crap games and Son seemingly losing his motor coordination ability.

More nervous about Brighton than pissed about last night.

Were we lucky to get 2 though?
OG and a penalty.

Apart from that did we trouble de Gea?

We just struggled to transition the ball, and not for the first time, against teams sitting back. So we just passed the ball about at the back and tried hitting it long.

What pisses me off, again, is the lack of shots on target. Most possesion, playing against a team with a shit defence, and we have 3 shots on target in 90mins! Thats shit.
Started with Kane not taking that iniial shot. Couldn't believe he didn't shoot.
Surely if you're playing a team you know are weak at the back you pelt that fucking goal no?
Its like we set up to try and nick it without really believing we could.

I think we all saw in just the small amount of time Lucas was on the pitch how much of an upgrade Kulu is on him.

Only watched it once live, but impression was we were through them plenty of times. Admittedly, not the same as attempts on goal, but only because of odd or bad decisions when it just needed one (not overly difficult at this level) more pass, or a shot. Goals conceded were not great, but Ronaldo etc. Just has the ability to drag teams along with him. Incredible player.

Players who play like Kulu are easily seen in other top teams. The fact that it's so refreshing seeing one in our team when we have been starting Lucas/Bergwijn for so long just shows the staleness and abject quality of players we have had for far too long.
