Yep, agree its about next season. I said months ago we wouldn't get top 4. Sure it will be nice if we get European football again, but are we going to throw games again with weak line ups, because if so, what's the point.
Just another wasted trophyless year under ENIC beckons.
We need 5 or 6 players in, and at least 4 of them a fortnight before the season starts.
At best we currently have 12 decent/quality players. You can't realistically expect top 6 and a trophy from that.
We need at least 4 in before pre-season, not the actual season.

If promises have been made to Conte that the summer window is crucial, we can’t be bringing in our main targets in early August. He’ll have no time to work with them & may have even walked.

Yes but we could afford to lose those games if we’d win against our nearest rival for the top 4 as they also will most likely lose against City. That’s our problem we don’t win the games that REALLY matter and this is what stops us being a top side. Unfortunately it’s a malaise we’ve had for a long time.
That's my point

Strangely thought we played quite well. Disappointing not to win but if we play like that we'll win more than we lose
While I agree, is that our level still? If so we are only going to go backwards. United were shite, we cut them open at ease in midfield, there is something wrong at the simple base level of our club, and I really don’t know why or indeed what it is. I’m 40 now and my first memories of my support is Francis, and to be honest I loved those days. The toxicity of our fan base seemed to start when we were successful.

over the last 10 - 15 years, basically since Jol, we constantly hear our players pipping up *we have learned* *we will do better* and tbh it’s all hairy balls.

Lloris is the only real winner in the squad, but he doesn’t seem to push like her should. We need more guys who simply won’t stand for doing what we can, we need a driver on the pitch. As much as the Poch era done for us we always seem to have the attitude of being willing runner ups.

At least Ireland won. ???

So not a total disaster of a day.

Going to the Scotland game next weekend so thankfully it’s not a dead rubber.

Played alright but when push come to shove, it was just another example of our deficits as a squad. The things we all know we lack were starkly highlighted today. Our wing backs are poor, we lack brains to break teams down, central
Midfield unable to impose itself and we defend set pieces appallingly.

Why do we always go back into our shell after scoring?

At least we can put Champs League to bed.
Bang on

If a player is having a stinker you pull them off and replace them. Son has been guilty of this numerous times recently. It’s obvious he’s struggling. I can’t see it helps the benched players confidence watching him and others slacking off and still staying on the pitch.

I think the issue is that Conte never rated Bergwijn and no longer trusts Lucas. So as bad as Son may be Conte feels he’s still our second best attacking option after Kane. Exactly why come summer we need to upgrade our attack.

Clearly. Slightly dissapointed in his treatment of Bergwijn ngl. He was obviously great against Leicester, thought he was one of our standouts against Chelsea and hasn't properly seen minutes since (was our best player when he came on against Middlesborough too).

He wasn't great today but he still showed talent You could also say the same of Kane. He"s a good player, let's not rhrow him under the bus for that. The new messiah Docherty was awful today too. ?

I like Bentancur and would play him plus Skipp (when fit) but today he was very poor. I did comment during the match how he made a good tackle and then pass but he was also bullied at times and easily pulled out of position for Ronaldo’s first goal.

If Conte’s insistent on playing a 343 next season (I hope not) then having saying Bentancur and Bissouma or Phillips would offer us both defensive protection, steel and box to box play. Personally I hope Conte sets us up with a 352, bringing in an attacking central midfielder.

In a 343 we can only play counter attacking football as more often than not we’re outnumbered in the middle. The pressure put on our existing players is too much as they don’t have the speed or power to dominate the middle of the park. Remember Sandro, Wanyama and Dembele… teams very rarely got passed these types of players. We need to sign more players in their ilk eg Bissouma or Phillips.

Dier should have come out for the first to be fair. Any closing of tge angles may have stopped Ron picking his spot.
I'm a massive massive Dier fan... but i also thought he should have closed Ronaldo down for that 1st goal. I'd like him to improve that area of his game.

Given Ndombele and Lo Celso are playing week in week out elsewhere we shouldn’t have any issues in shifting them.

Gil most likely needs another loan or cut our losses with him as I just don’t see where he fits into a Conte set up.

In terms of incomings there needs to be both lots of them and they need to be in early otherwise we’ll be once again playing catch up all season.

I've never watched Conte teams until he joined us. Is he rigid in his system? Because it seems he is over reliant on his wing backs.... I felt yesterday was crying out for a midfield 3.

At some point I wanted him to drop Son or a defender and put in an additional midfielder alongside Bentacur and PEH.

Then I realized he's not flexible in that way.

A bit unlucky I thought not to get at least a draw. For me neither Romero or Bentancur were at their best but Kuluveski was outstanding once again.

Weird weird game.....

We were for most of the game in control, didn't seem under much threat but yet didn't have many players who actually played well.

Then we let a guy who is in the autumn if not winter of his game look like the genius he once was.
Very poor by us.

Definitely a game we should have won yet lost.

I applaud your optimism.

Saying it's unlikely, but not "gone" isn't exactly what I would consider being optimistic!

I get it though. Saying it's absolutely out of the question now despite there still being 33pts to play for, over 11 games and only being 6pts away from 4th. It provides a good defence mechanism. A blanket that you can wrap yourself in and say, I knew it wouldn't happen

Davies was a mile offside. Son had a pretty decent chance, yeah, but that was it. We’re just consistently not creating chances when teams deny us space to counter and today was just another example.

I don't care what anyone says, we were the better side.

The whole "Dr. Tottenham" meme is very overused by some people and it does get quite irritating to have to keep reading it in the build up to every game. At the same time, when Sky Sports showed the stat that Man Utd had scored only 1 goal from 150 corners, I knew exactly where their winner was coming from.

Let's be clear, what happened yesterday was that our manager chose to play the only formation that he appears comfortable or competent to play, with players that are demonstrably not well-suited to that formation. And our formation was not well-suited to counter our opposition's set up. That our players looked less good than they have against teams that committed their own players high into our half should not come as a surprise.
