Kane in the midfield position must send opposition managers into a frenzy of panic, he is remarkable.

He sends opposition midfielders into a frenzy of panic as well. Declan Rice is likely still trying to come to terms when Kane bossed him around in midfield a few weeks ago.

As a side note, am I the only one that doesn't really rate Saint Maximin much? He has bags of ability but I don't think he utilises it well, his general game needs to be a lot more secure IMO. He's either going on a mazy run or losing it, there's not really enough of an in-between.

It’s weird, I was there today and he was the one I was most worried about! He’s very dynamic but in a ‘I’m not sure what to do’ sort of way! Maybe he just needs better players around him?..

On my way home from the game on a train ride to Bristol. I was unhappy with our selections at wing backs, only because due to injuries we were short. I don’t get the clamour for Bergy or Lucas there, these players have never played in that position. It’s not as easy as he’s fast, he’s attacking etc. You have to know the space you work in as a player, these are players that dont work in that space so it’s dumb to me to try to force em in there when you have actual defenders and wing backs who can. Despite their deficiencies, Doherty, Royal can. They know their position. That was evident today. Give em some support guys, it’s a fucking shit show for the first 30 pages of this match thread with the hatred. Don’t happy clap but don’t slag needlessly either.
Very well said. I don't get it either.

Lucas is the least systematic player we have. Not too mention the fact he can't hug a touchline, he likes to drive towards goal and he just gets in the way. He won't be able to face up with the ball either.

Bergwijn has been ruthless since Conte played him ahead of Kane. Why drop him into a position he didn't perform very well under Jose? Not too mention he isn't someone who can 'ghost in', he needs to stay in and around the top 3.

He's the sort of player that will kill you if you switch off, but once royal got tight (and, quickly) he looked a lot less dangerous. So maybe don't quite man to man him, but, his movement was generally very predictable. So seemed to make him easier to pocket. Do think he could be coached better though, as his feet are quick as shit, and he had romero and Emerson scared early doors.

Fantastic result and performance. It really adds to the test of Arsenal's mettle for their Palace game. I hope Palace show up in that one.

Credit to the two wing-backs today. Doherty handled the switch of wing very well and Royal did a decent job. And both scored without having too many defensive scares which suggests they are a driver of our upturn in form.

Three wins in a row, a temporary hold on 4th just before our rivals play, and a run of mid-table or lower opposition coming up before Liverpool. I don't yet have confidence that we are resilient and focused enough, but if we get to the magic 5 or 6 wins in a row, that confidence will build tremendously.

It would be great to see us start a game like we did in the 2nd half, but as long as we can turn it up I'm happy for the more structured start even if it can be a bit slow at times.

When we get going, it's great to watch though. Kulusevski and Bentancur are a huge upgrade! Really good to see them holding onto the ball and able to get it forward rather then sideways and backwards (yes they still do this, but know when they can get it forward)

I was a little worried that what Conte was wanting from the players we weren't going to see, but it really is taking shape.

I'm still expecting a bit of inconsistency at times, but it's taking shape.
There was a point when kuvuleski had the ball navigated it out of defence and looked around for a forward pass, nothing on so he just laid it back.

This was impressive, he doesn't really lose the ball, always looks for the forward pass, but won't try the Hollywood pass.

Just an incredibly intelligent player. We have had so many attacking players who just lose the ball consistently. He is the opposite and when he has it on the edge of the box, generally it ends in a chance being created.

Lucas has had a good season (by his standards) but kuvuleski is leagues ahead. Can't believe how underrated he was. What a player.

I’m not a fan of Doherty at LWB as he always has to get into his right foot which means he doesn’t put quick crosses in. I’d would have preferred to have seen Conte try Berwjin in that position. He might not have been so good defensively but Newcastle we’re always going to come here and sit deep and he would have been a handful for them going forward. Still I can’t really complain as Doherty had a goal and assist and Royal got a goal as well. So what do I know.
When they scored so close to half time( stupid lazy foul from Son and poor goalkeeping from Lloris ) it looked like they would continue to be a bit of bogey team for us.
Ultimately 2 goals either side of half time by 2 unlikely scorers ensured that Newcastle would have to open up a bit more if they were to get anything out of the game. Once that happened Kane dropped deep and tore them apart spraying passes to his attacking side kicks. He looked like Kevin De Bruyne at times.
Conte seems to finally have them drilled in how he wants them to play and everybody is buying into it. Once we get our noses in front we look formidable and we definitely have the momentum for a top 4 challenge.
Here’s hoping Palace can do the business tomorrow.

Away, so listened to the game. Just watched the (poor) sky highlights. What I liked most was the effort made to get the ball in the net - the drive & hunger to get to the ball first. That kind of determination is what makes champions … Conte in full effect. Well played boys

Even with your poor highlights, you've got it spot on, Dave. We wanted it more, and the more control we got, the tighter we turned the screw. Gonna be stunning when these boys start to get belief.

Got covid from West Ham game so missed today, had to watch on dire sports but am buzzing at that…they put up loads of stats etc under conte we are 3rd..even with a dodgy feb

Hope you feel better soon, Finch. At least you got to take 3 points home from that game.

Why is it when we score 4/5 goals the other team's defence is a shambles but when Liverpool or City do it's sublime attacking football? As I posted earlier Newcastle have only conceded 7 in the whole of 2022 so clearly know how to defend but we've ripped them apart this second half
And we have now scored more goals in the prem in 2022 than any other team… pretty darn good stats combined with putting that many past a tight Newcastle…

Great result better than expected.
Arsenal still have it to lose but the pressure is on. They've almost slipped up in some games but were able to rely on their lead to take the pressure off. That comfort blanket is now slowly eroding .

Question- will Palace not perform in the PL. as they are in a semi or will players be playing for their places.

O thought SF was next weekend but it's week after so they should be up for this. If they win they go 9th which would be impressive for them

I wouldn’t even call it a midfield position the way he still gets himself forward and on either flank. I think he’s invented a new position - and he’s unique.

Feckin hangin'

Went out to watch football with my geordie mate, didn't see him after about 6 o clock.

Rest assured, I tried to hunt the little dancer down, few pints in every pub along the way.

I'll be waiting for his bullshit text stating he sloped off coz he had work in the morning. I'm seeing the lad Friday, going out for a meal, so I think I'll work on something to remind him of the result.

If the daughter can get one of those edible Tottenham transfers for cakes delivered by Thursday, I think I'll fire a cake round to the Chinese restaurant we're going to, tell them it's his birthday.

Every time I've gone there, they go full tilt with the birthdays, happy birthday blaring over the speakers ,all the bar staff and waitresses come out together with the cake brought to the table.

He'll feckin Kevin Keegan love that. Teach him to disappear on me when my team is kicking the arse outta yours. Beautiful Tottenham Hotspur cake, and a sing song from the Chinese.

Think his birthdays August. :D

The difference yesterday, especially as the match wore on, was that he looked before he shifted the ball. He didn't manoeuvre the ball onto his right foot and then look up for options, resembling a supertanker on the turn, by which time all the potential targets were static and marked. He worked out his options first and then quickly shifted the ball to his right and crossed.

The result was that it took at least a half-second, probably a second less to get the ball delivered. That's an age in the middle of an attacking move. The targets were moving, the defence was still adjusting and the results were obvious. I don't know if this was the result of instructions from Conte or just Doherty's own choice, but if he keeps doing that, he can be a useful player on either side.

Its like the game is broken down into 270x 20 second bits and every player in every bit has to play like a world beater. Sons shit get him off (2 goals off golden boot), Get Dogherty and Emerson off they are shit too (both score and win 5-1).
