There's a press conference now it seems, and apparently Caulker will be playing tomorrow.

Great news he's fit again, we missed him against Arsenal. I hope we don't have to see Naughton at LB again after tomorrow, I'd rather JV, maybe even Caulker could play there in the absence of BAE. Maybe we have an U21 who is a natural LB?

We dont have many defenders in our academy full stop, all the good ones are out on loan

Kevin Stewart is a LB (although can play CB as well). He got a 1 year pro deal in the summer. We played Townsend back there last season but he's not a left-back. After that you're into Academy players, Darren McQueen probably being next in line.

Cheers for info John, having insufficient cover at LB has really cost us this season. JV has been run into the ground covering two positions plus playing for Belgium, and Naughton simply isn't up to it.

I don't know how Danny Rose is doing at Sunderland, but it's hard to believe he's a worse LB than Naughton.

I really wish JV hadn't gone on the flight today, and had been rested for West Ham.

Now he's there, he might as well play I guess.

It looks like we've taken our strongest squad, with only Brad and the injured Falque left at home.

I think it's a mistake, but won't criticise AVB for it, because I can see the justification for it.

I just think we'll lose anyway, and then we'll have a lot of tired, battered players facing West Ham, who will relish the prospect having been resting at home.

Apologize if this has been posted, but Klose and Konko will not be playing tomorrow. That's a boost.

Danny Rose would be far and away our best LB while BAE has been out with the form he's in for Sunderland. Made a point to watch every Sunderland match and every time (Bar the Liverpool match where he 2 lapses) I've come away completely impressed. Technically he's made huge strides, which was always his shortcoming. No doubt about the physical talents (pace, surprising power, passing ability).

Yes agree with you I reckon we will lose tomorrow and at home to the hammers especially as Carroll has not yet scored this season he must be gagging to get at our weak defence.

It's a real kick in the nuts that we had 3 goals ruled out in the home leg as this would have left us in a better shape to qualify.

Comments from Rose always seemed to suggest that he didn't want to play second fiddle to BAE. Can't blame the club for letting him out on loan but definitely would have been good had he still been with us.

I really hope we play a fairly strong team, I think we need the boost at the moment and as we say at the Lane we are more than capable of beating them but also they're dangerous and could beat us bad if we play a weak team or do not turn up on the day as we have in our previous two away games

This year the Europa is looking more important to us as a club than it has in recent times so we really want to win the group but at the very least we have to get through so a win would be fantastic but not losing is the key to qualification I think

Ade has to start, he's gonna be away for a bit anyway so might as well play him now. Would be fanstastic to see Dembele get a little run out without risking him too much and hopefully Carroll can continue to show what he is all about (hopefully Adebayor's inclusion will make a lot of the attacking midfielder's look better)

Anyway, I am off to Rome tomorrow to watch the match in the home end with the Lazio fans (so if you see a fan stabbed in the arse expect it to be me and imagine how much management my anger will require if we also lose the game)

COYS time to turn the negative spell around with some returning players and positive results against Lazio and West Ham

That should be fun for you in with the lazio fans when we beat Milan the year before last we was in with the Milan ultras was a good night that's for sure.

Thanks for info SF, so galling that he's helping Sunderland while we're struggling.

Yep, that game, where we played really well could be the undoing of us. It was particularly a shame for Dempsey, had his goal been allowed it might have helped him gain confidence at the Lane.

was there any mention of Dembele in this press conference?...
Yep, it seems he's not ready to play. so why we took him out there I haven't a clue.

Maybe we'll find out more tomorrow, or maybe I've missed something in my internet searching :)

Good news. If we get a draw out there, then I think AVB's gamble is justified. But I still think we're gonna lose. I just see the officials turning us over, hope I'm wrong of course..

Not sure, but the official Facebook page for the club put a few photos up of the players training and Dembele was among them.

A bit dissapointed that we sent again our full first squad down there. So much potential in the U21, would be a chance to see if someone is ready for the seniors...

I hope at least Carroll gets 90 minutes
