I'm 100% certain Pochetinno will shut a lot of people up if he is appointed.

I've been told that about quite a few appointments - I was rather sceptical about Ramos at the time, but I was told that he was winner, his side played fantastic football and it was 100% that we would turn into entertaining powerhouse.

I don't think this matters if we are getting results. As it hasn't been an issue after Southamptons impressive season.

There are only issues if the team are perceived to be failing and the media are looking for reasons for this.

As much as I'm not a fan of him I can't help having some sympathy for him if we lose a couple of games the press will be all over with the language barrier thing.

I think it will become a problem for a lot of our fans. I just can't see people warming to him as a personality if he only uses a translator when talking to the media.

Sounds like a daft point, but as long as he uses a translator there will be a gulf between him and the fans. Obviously people won't care if we're doing well, but as soon as things turn sour I can imagine a lot of fans feeling no connection to him whatsoever.

Could you not raise the possibility thought that having a bit of emotional distance, and having his public communication so limited, would actually work to his benefit? It would give us far less to pick apart and criticise and, considering who his predecessor is, i'd be very relieved to actually just have some bland, neutral platitudes. Rather like having a sorbet after an obscenely hot curry!

Personally it wouldn't bother me (just as it didn't when Ramos was in charge). As you say, after Sherwood it would be nice to have someone that delivers comments with a lack of controversy, and presumably with a translator doubling as a PR guide of sorts.

However, the cult of personality is alive and well, and I believe a lack of direct engagement with the fans would create problems if results don't go the right way (where, perhaps, a more popular and charismatic manager might be given more leeway). So many fans feel as though Tottenham has lost its identity this season, and the manager is in effect the spokesman and first representative of the club. There's a level of dissolution and lack of connection between the club and fans that I've never experienced, and I feel that if Pochettino was hired and continued to speak to the media via a translator, that disconnection would continue to be problematic.

Although I lean slightly towards fdb given his winning experience and pedigree, I do get a bit more excited by the potential of potty.

My guess is that if he came Levy would insist on English from him. He's not a liability and he can speak it fine.

MP: Thank you for the job, Daniel
DL: My pleasure.
MP: I'm looking forward to winning many games with Spurs
DL: I hope so
MP: I need money for some new players
DL: Sorry, me no understand. You speak with too much of an accent.
MP: Shall I get my interpreter?
DL: He didn't pass the interview, I'm afraid...

Lets face it, we know deep down that even with Pellegrini, Mourinho or even SAF we would still fall short and they'd end up sacked.......................................................it's the Spurs way

That's what a crap season does for you. it turns you into Victor Meldrew....................

Doesn't speak english to the media, thats ok with Southampton but with us its a different story.

Remember Ramos, we were told he speaks english but the media absolutely destroyed him because he didnt speak english to them after a year

I think if Poch is in the PL next season with Southampton or us we'll see him talk English to the media.
