7m euros, that's about 6m GBP isn't it? That is quite a bargain as I have no doubt Chadli would be worth alot more after a season or two in PL - similar to Dembele.

TBH with you, this move, if it happens, is so very familiar of the type we would make back in mid-2000's. Hardly a world-beater but a talented younger player with a bit of pedigree available for a lower fee. Most of those signings turned out to be the real star bits of business tbh.

He might not set the world alight but even so we'll have a good addition to the squad and in an area of need for very little relative outlay. So no fucking moaning about it, ya hear!

If we have got Chadli, and go after Osvaldo, who seems more available for our budget than Soldado, that'd be our business about done in my mind.
Only further signings need be a LB if Ekotto goes, and a few players with potential, maybe a few South Americans out of Baldini's scouting knowledge.
A few outgoings now, job done.
Maybe a last day Levy flutter if there is a deal that favours us to be done somewhere.

If I was GB I'd be delaying any new contract until the club proved we could meet his ambitions. That's what worries me most about our lack of a striker so far.

Lets hope this week sees some positive news on both fronts.

Totally agree.

I hope it doesn't turn into the old 'we tried but prices weren't realistic'....mantra.

We can't pitch to Bale about being ambitious and then fail to walk the walk. No one expects us to be cavalier, of course not, but we if are to be ambitious this summer, of all summers, we have to be prepared to exercise a little more give and take.

What worries me is we do all the talking, don't demonstrate ambition and inevitably sell Bale. The implications of this could be more damaging than we think as well. What does it say about us to others and our 'ambition'? Everybody is looking at how we, a Club trying to push through into that top tier, handle the situation of having the current third best player in the world at our Club.

We have building successfully for some time now. We are on the verge of really becoming threatening to the top bracket in this league now. We'll be tested with Bale for sure, but what's it going to be?

Yes, we are punching above our weight but we've earned that. Now is the time to really try and capitalise on that IMO.

I kind of agree with the Lewis dipping his hand in his pocket, however you don't become a billionaire in the investment market by splashing cash around willy nilly on footballers. And lest not forget he is the 308th richest person in the world, IN THE WORLD!

Since Lewis took over the club have been on an upward curve, no doubt about it. Could you have seen us fighting the top boys 10 or so years ago when they came in? So whilst we have gone up (league wise) have a new shiny training ground, new stadium on the way, all this WHILST balancing the books and making some profit, why would he change how we spend? Although on the flip side of that, a couple of Stella signings could "almost" guarantee champs league which the money coming in from that (TV money/sponsorships/exposure etc...) would offset that.

However he is the business billionaire so I'm sure he (and Levy) realises all that!

Off topic so apologies!

Beers on you then?

An agent might get 20% of his signing on fee but there is no way a player would agree to that percentage of his wages unless he was told to do so by the person that looks after his affairs.......oh hang on a minute

My cousin is a football agent, I'm gonna check out how this stuff works with him. He has some high profile names on his books (no spurs players I'm afraid though!) he should be able to clear this up.

Interesting to see if this means end of Bernard pursuit. For me it wouldn't definitely mean that as Townsend could easily fetch the Chadli fee if he isn't fancied. Furthermore unless we've already given up our negotiations with AM, it wouldn't make sense to abandon him yet before we've had a chance to speak to the player (which is after Wednesday he will entertain suitors)

Lamela cost Roma around £20m. Do you honestly believe they will flog a player who has performed so well with them without trying to make atleast £10m profit?

You need to ask yourself this question and whether it fits into our budget before making these kind of statements.

I suspect once you have considered these points you will understand why Bernard is a more realistic target.

Roma paid €12m

I've got to got out now.

Some of you may recall that I went out to get a burger & we signed Paulinho, then I went out again and we officially signed Paulinho.
It was a two stage thing.
Anyway. Here's to the Chadli signing. Levy? You've got about 3 hours to get it on the OS.

If that means our interest in Bernard is up and only look at spending similiar on a CF then you can hardly blame Bale when he next year questions our ambitions, for me if we were waiting to hear on Bernard before going for plan B surely we wouldn't be signing plan B till after the 24th July, hoping its both because we got buyers for a few of our fringe players.

Some v mixed ITK, both Ryantegan and Atlanta seem to suggest big money to spend, JJ and Yideo sticking the brakes on and stating we have a limited budget (though what limited is I don't know).

Levy is a shrewd operator so I guess no one really knows the budget. If a club smells money and the fact we want a striker the price goes up, so I hope we have a few irons in the fire, but it would good to commit to one.

JJ said "I concur with nearly all of the Yidio ITK.."

We don't know which bits he doesn't agree with, it maybe the bit about a limited transfer budget is that bit, we wont know unless JJ mentions which bits he disagrees with.

I'd hope a professional footballer would base his judgment on ambition on performances, rather than names. He's not a video game playing child, after all.

Bernard is a huge outlay for a player with barely 2 full seasons under his belt. He may fail, he may get injured immediately, he may do all sorts of things (as might Chadli, or Bale himself) - the name and the price is no indication of ambition. It's a results game.

I've laughed off the Soldado's links constantly up until right now - because of his age.

I think he could be a possibility now. We need one big signing in the forward department. Statement of intent, ambition to Bale etc.

I think we will sell Defoe. Chadli can cover as a forward as well.

Say we got 8 million for Defoe. Effectively we would be paying 10 million plus more for Soldado who is a few years younger. That 10 million might look like incredibly good fee/difference after two years.

I know transfers don't work like that - each deal based on their own merits etc...but as an example for some perspective.

Exactly. Bale will make a decision about his career based on what's best for him anyway, not THFC. The club will do exactly the same. Anything else would be futile and if done incorrectly, dangerous.
