Better players have gone to Madrid and failed to fit in - Kaka, Beckham (mostly), even Mourinho was never truly taken in by them or the fans. His time there should largely be ignored, to be honest. He'd be a great signing for us, just as VdV was.

Think he'd make a huge difference to us, especially if we ever play 3 in MF. Him alongside any of Mason, Alli, Bentaleb, winks etc would make us a much harder prospect to break down. Got everything crossed on this one.

This all seems to be simple newspaper regurgitation of reports in Spain with no actual mention of Spurs so seems very unlikely. What's also strange is the complete lack of ITK on our supposed CM hunt recently. I know some of the ITK lads have mentioned we are looking at players but without specifics being talked about in the last week I have a horrible feeling we'll end the window with the same midfielders we already have

Seems he will most likely head back to Sociedad. Makes sense when you think about it, familiar club and league less disruptive than a new one. Especially when you consider how stiffled his career has been thusfar.

I think he would make a difference too, we need an experienced midfielder like him.

Sadly, I don't think it will happen.

Let's just hope none of the juggernaut clubs suffer an injury to any of their deep lying midfielders in the next week. A loan and/or his supposed transfer fee is a drop in the ocean to any of them.

Still think this road is clear as long as the Liverpool interest is indeed false. Only other could be Arsenal and Wenger likes a reduced fee/bargain like this. Illarra is also exactly the type of deep lying midfielder he likes as opposed to a straight up DM

If he is really a target for the club, surely we can make this happen if the price is just £11m. Wasn't there a rumor that Madrid is still paying off Bale and that a transfer would just see them writing off some debt to us?

I guess you never know if someone is truly a target, but if he goes to Sociedad for that price it's just going to add to the long list of players that I thought were a decent enough for Spurs and yet aren't here now.

Figure Modders and Bale could a have word with him. Also just looking at our team, its quite clear that he will have an easier time breaking in and playing than trying to compete with Lpools 6/7 other mids.

And if anyone tries saying we shouldn't Risk Doing A Leeds on this one, while Sociedad can afford him, I'll do a Leeds.

If we wants to come to the Prem, it's between us and Pool IMO. I fancy our chances but I'm trying not to get too excited as he would be an incredible signing for us. Would allow us to play 4-4-2 diamond (Ian holding, Mason and Bentaleb/Dembele ahead and Eriksen as a 10) 4-3-3 (same three mids as the 4-4-2 diamond) and also think he'd work with Mason and/or Bentaleb with Poch preferred 4-2-3-1. Genuinely an incredible signing

If we actually have a chance at him, we should be putting up enough money for this guy that he and his agent don't even care to look around. He's a proven talent that isn't getting playing time behind two of the best in the world at his position. Class players aren't just an investment for the current team, they can influence an entire generation of youth and we desperately need a strong influence in our midfield.

My heart: I would cum buckets if we got Illaramendi...

My head : unfortunately I reckon it will be a certain Sir Joseph Barton Esquire that we will make a mad dash for on deadline day.

Does anyone think he would choose us over Liverpool especially with the starts to the season that each team has made?
