I was in block 56, row 35 and can assure you that it was the minority. They were drowned out by the cheers eventually. Either way it was an embarrassmant on our club/fans they way that minority behaved.

Like i said, in amongst it. Hard to tell exactly what it was like. I can assure you, while it may have sounded like a minority around you, it was far from the minority overall. Thankfully the travelling fans are a minority anyway. At WHL i'd expect the boos to be thoroughly drowned out by the cheers.

Seems many of our "fans" are complete assholes!

Interesting comment as without our fans our club would be nowhere. We travelled up there in big numbers yesterday - not many clubs would have such numbers (at a guess not far off 5000) for a game 250 miles away seems harsh to criticise them as i for heard hardly any booing & lots of cheers

there was a time that spurs were accustomed to having truly great players. hoddle and waddle in the same team. perryman. ardiles and villa. and that was in the 80's.

Even at the beginning of the 90's we had both gazza and lineker, the best players in their positions in the country and amongst the best in europe.

then, they left. after that we has many great moments from sheringham and a few from klinsmann as well, but the decline set in. we were even given a few years of ginola, but he was surrounded by trash. after he left, there was not one great player gracing our pitch until berbatov stepped onto white hart lane for the first time. and that's a big gap.

if he leaves, his replacement had better be stupendous, because he is an unbelievable footballer who does things that most players can't even dream of doing. i have no doubt that with service bent will score many goals, but he's no berbatov, no-one is, berbatov is priceless.

modric, giovanni, bale, i have full confidence that they will be great players, special players, and with a bit of luck one of them might even end up delighting us the way berbatov can. but berbatov right now is a superstar at the peak of his powers, a player who can rub shoulders with the very best in the world, and to lose him would be to lose a hell of a lot of joy. would i want arshavin if we lost berbatov? yes! would he be as good? I have no idea. but right now if I had to choose between the two it would be berbatov everytime.

We are probably going to lose him in the next couple of weeks, and I will be heartbroken, and all those who have said we are better off without him, i just hope you are correct, because i certainly disagree.

the guy is pure class. although i have been critical of his attitude in recent weeks...i'm convinced we would have won that game yesterday if he started. when he came on he looked better than any player on the pitch. it's a real shame we will probably lose him in the next few weeks.

Berbatov arrived in Sofia today. He gave an interview for Bulgarian jornos:

http://www.sportal.bg/news.php?id=126584

In short: "I will coment when it (the Man U saga) comes to end. Yesterday I was on the bench because Ramos has decided so. I'm not going to complain. It's bad when a given team depends on one player. At the moment I'm a player of Tottenham but I don't think that somebody has to feel angry that somebody else seeks to fulfil his dreams. I always have been ambitious."

When asked that English papers write that he doesn't smile, he replied: I cannot laugh like an idiot. I have noticed that Cantona didn't smile as well but did anybody asked him about that.

We have a right to feel angry because it's our club he wants away from, that's a natural reaction whether he likes it or not, you saw how Man Utd fans reacted when Ronaldo said he wanted to leave.

I have only translated what he said (according to Bulgarian jornos, I haven't heard it myself) mate :)

Actually, there are no news in his interview. It implies that he wants to go to Man U but everybody knows it IMO.

Danchev gave an interview, too, ad it was more revealing IMO:

The most important part: The next week is going to be decisive for Berbatov's future. In some days I will tell you some very interesing things. Hopefully, everything will come to the end that Berbatov desires. I wouldn't comment the financial aspect. I read Ferguson's statement that he wants another top striker and our hopes are that that is going to be Berbatov.

Well, Danchev's interview seems to imply that the negotiations are very advanced if not concluded. Maybe the Mirror are right?

Thanks Petyr, for the info, links and translations.

Not for 25 mill, which the Mirror is saying, would they be right. I doubt Levy has held off for this long to cave in now for a lesser price.

Was there anything in the interviews about handing in a transfer request on Friday? You'd think the BG journos would ask about that?

Also, even if Barca decide to make a serious bid for him, as some speculation suggested, he/Danchev seem to have ruled that out, and as assumed, MU is their only preferred destination.

I really don't understand why MU are making such a meal of this, having publically declared he rates him, why should Fergie still expect to get him on the cheap? They've been faffing around for literally months, it could've been settled in the off season if they seriously wanted him, they seem to have strung him along by saying Fergie would get in touch when he got back from holiday in France, that was in June, and nothing's really progressed since - Ronaldo and Real saga or not.
Their need for a striker is not going to be greater in January than it is now, Fergie said last Friday that "the cupboard is bare" in that department. Needs must, you would think, but clearly they don't want to go that extra mile, as Rafa did to sign Keane. They'd rather stir up a hornet's nest in the Press, and have succeeded in getting the player to formally request a transfer, which he was clearly reluctant to do up till now.

One wonders why the BG Media dont debate this issue instead of seeing it solely as Spurs/Levy blocking his dreams and Path to Glory?
A potential Golden Ball Winner - which is what they believe Berbatov to be at United - is not going to be sold for a knock down price is he?

It seems, Lily, that they haven't asked him about the transfer request as they mention nothing in their reports. As regards the price, no-one has commented on Man U reluctance to pay what Levy wants. It isn't clear to begin with, how much does Levy actually want? £28m or £30m or £32m or £35m or £38m?

The Mirror say - and if their info is true, it must come from Man U - that with add-ons the deal will be worth £30m. If that's true, that wouldn't be cheap at all. I have no idea what's going on. My first impression while reading Danchev's interview was that he seems to be optimist about the deal but who knows? The deal may be already agreed or it may be far from completition.

As regards why Man U haven't agrred to pay earlier, I have no idea either. Maybe there have been big disagreements over the fee: Man U offer was £20m, Levy wanted say £35m. It's difficult to overcome such disagreements in short time, provided the "friendly" connections between both clubs.

It seems that Man U are very confident that they will bring in another top striker:
"Speaking in the club's matchday programme ahead of Sunday's season-opening clash with Newcastle United, the United chief revealed his desire to add another frontman to his squad.
Ferguson has just three out-and-out established strikers in Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez and Louis Saha currently in his ranks.
The veteran Scot would like to return to the four-man system of Andre Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer which secured a historic Treble in 1999.
Berbatov, 27, is believed to have submitted a transfer request at Spurs in a bid to force through his move to Old Trafford.
"We are working on bringing in another top striker," Ferguson told United Review.

So, it remains to be seen whether that is Berbatov.

WOW! They published that in their matchday programme? Eek
It reads like an article in the Manchester Evening News.

Oh it's Berbatov alright. Of that I have no doubt and never have had since the red faced git gave that interview in the Golf Buggy in July saying he'd be making "only one signing".

No, this is part of the article which quotes what Ferguson says in the match programme.

As regards who is Man U target - yeah, I agree that that must be Berba. It would be strange to chase him 2 years and to sign in the last moment another player. But everything or almost everything is possible, given that Keane was sold to Liverpool. 2 months ago this seemed absolutely impossible.
