I feel more confident every day that he will stay as in the main the stories about him leaving have gone reasonable quiet. Now that the papers will again be concentrating on the Ronaldo move (which will probabley drag on all summer until he signs for Madrid) hopefully will mean Berba can get on with pre season in peace and quiet with out the amount of specualtion that has followed him around all last season! Just be nice if he did sign a new deal too 100% quash talks of a move (atleast in this transfer window!)

Times say today that Barca failed to persuade Wenger to sell Adebayor and Hleb. At the same time Catalanian Sport and Mundo Deportivo claim that if Barca fail to get Adebayor, they will turn to Berbatov or Mario Gomez. BTW, Bayern failed in their first attempt to sign Gomez.

I very much hope this Adebayor to Barca things happens, because we'll never sell to Arsenal so that would leave only ManU as an option for Berba (it looks like Drogba isn't leaving Chelsea, hazaaa!). And ManU are so caught up in all this C.Ronaldo stuff that right now I can't see them doing anything until the know exactly where they stand. i am more hopeful than ever of the Berba stay!

I'd really like to know what Berbatov thinks about our signings. Gomes and Bentley look certain to join soon and with Modric and Giovani, we've got some quality signings for next season. Surely the ambition and the big money we're spending would excite Berbatov? Afterall, the midfielders have been signed for him and Keane, and it would be rude to leave now.

my overall feeling on this matter is that Berba is in two minds.
on the one hand, he's got danchev chuntering in his ear on almost a daily basis, telling him he owes it to himelf to take the big money move to a *bigger club*.
and on the other, berba probably knows in his heart of hearts, that to stay at spurs would not yield the same amount of trophys or champions league football, BUT, he would be playing for a team that would allow him 'carte blanche' to express himself on a football field and, in time, maybe even attain 'legend status'.
for a man like berba, style and artistry seem to be his core beliefs, hence to stay at spurs. but he also in his head he knows that this (manu, barca) would a career defining move for him.

not an easy choice by any means.

Berba will do the right thing! It is written in the sand...or the dust of the last home game? Either way, we can look forward to our Bulgar for a while more? COYS!

Danchev spoke about some of his other clients yesterday and was asked about Berbatov, where he will play next season: the journo mentioned some giants as possibilities. Danchev said that he doesn't want to comment what media say. Berba is on holiday now, if there is something official, media will learn it. Then he was asked as to whether some of the biggest clubs have contacted him. He responded that even if such a thing happened, he wouldn't give information about it.

Ronaldo saga may have jeopardized Danchev's plans. It's clear that Man U wouldn't make a move for Berbatov before clarifying the situation with Ronaldo. For one thing they may be accused of double standards as their approach may resemble Real's. For another thing, if they try to buy Berbatov during the Ronaldo saga, then they may give the impression that they already look for replacements which would weaken their position. The longer that saga continues the better for Spurs as Man U and Real are two of the most serious possible contenders for Berba's signature.

Sounds like Danchev might have had his knuckles rapped for being so mouthy. Either by the club or, more likely, by Berbatov himself.

Thanks Petyr, interesting that he is now not making a big thing of all the clubs that are showing interest - I think this transfer window is not playing out quite the way Danchev envisaged and he would be in danger of looking stupid by giving the names of potential suitors who haven't and as yet don't seem to have amde any serious moves for his client.

As you say, the longer this goes on the better for Spurs

I've pretty much refrained from commenting on this thread because I really want him to stay and I know nothing more than I read on here but it does occur to me now that if Berba decided he wanted to move early in the season it was clear why, if he sill wanted to move in february then we could still see why but if you were in his position now it is asolutely clear that the club he would be leaving is not the same as the one he wanted to leave seven months ago.
Then he could have left comfortable that he had left a team unlikely to succeed in his time at the club but as it now stands can he be sure that is still the case?
It is feasible that if he stayed he might actually get the success he wants.
As for Manchester Utd lets be honest it is a great club, a huge club and a successful club but also a club that SAF has said he will retire from in the next two years and that will make a difference.
They will drop down, maybe not far and maybe not for long but They will do so nevertheless, as did chelsea after Jose and as eventually will arsenal after wenger.
If we look abroad, how long will it take AC to rebuild a great side and the same for Barca, nodoubt they will rebuild but Berba's apparent fear was time was running out for him so this is all relevant.
I just think the situation has changed an awful lot since November.

If we lose him now I'll be shocked, and saddenned of course. Everyday that passes seems to strengthen our hold on him and who knows, he might even extend from for years to five for the pay hike. Gomes about to come in, Gio and Modric alerady, he must see that the club are bulding something for both short and long term success. He must see that if he has done this well so far, now that we have Modric he will be in his element with chances aplenty!

Best coup of the transfer window would be - a new contract for Berbatov keeping him at Spurs for the forseeable future.

Simple as.

I think Ronaldo leaving utd. would make the signing of Berbatov even more important for them. As good a replacement as theyre gonna get!!! If Ronaldo signs on the 7th as rumoured I'd bet Berbs to be in red by the 21st of July !!!

were that to happen, and I bloody hope it doesn't, then the only saving grace would be that we would know the squillions that Madrid had paid for him so Levy would screw them senseless when negotiating a price. It would make the £18m they paid for Carrick peanuts.
