What? A couple of items of made-up bollocks in the Sun and the Hate-Mail? A few other rags and some shitty little websites have repeated them, but it's basically two stories.

I'm currently consulting my Rumour Rangers' Handbook to see if I'm allowed to lock a thread because of excessive wimpiness. I don't think I am, but I might just do it for a giggle all the same.

Actually, the whole Berbatov to Man U story was started by Times already toward the end of May. I think Times are one of the best sources re manure transfer targets. They wrote already last August, after Levy rejected an offer form manure, that they were told that man u are going to bid for Berbatov again, probably in the summer. Then Times wrote in the first weeks of Juni that Berbatov is the main transfer target of Ferguson and the other papers followed them. Since several weeks they say that a deal is to be expected in the region of £27-28m.

So, it's not Sun, not Daily Mail etc. but Times who have been the main source of that story.

These 2 things most people could come up with as a pretty reliable assumption.

I'm sure the Times like most people know United would like Berbatov.

But wouldn't be so sure they'd know how much United would be willing to pay, or Spurs willing to accept which is the crucial part.

As far as i'm aware it was Mark Irwin in The Sun that started off the latest Berbatov stuff on Saturday.

And he has since today written covering his back on his Saturday article, Old Trafford are shocked at Levy's 30 million asking price and are not prepared to budge over the early 20s,making it basicaly sound like he's making it up as he goes along.

The 27-28 million figure was from the Evening Standard,a very unreliable source. But i guess their is always a first time, let's hope this isn't it.:)

Even The Times,Observer,Independent,Guardian ect copy info from the tabloids like The Sun, Mirror and Standard at times, and you can kind of make out when they do this, cause they usually put a disclaimer of ''according to reports'' ie according to The Evening Standard at the beginning of their article.

IF manure want Berbatov and IF he wants to go there, and these aren't actually two big IFs, the deal is vey likely to happen. The best Levy can do in a situation like this is to get as much money as possible. And he will do it.

Man Utd wanted him last year and in January and Berbatov reportedly would have liked to consider playing for them then as well, but the deal didn't happen.

Levy has said nothing less than in the £30 millions will be accepted. He is not i would hope, gonna want a fan backlash selling for anything less than that after selling Carrick and paying the price in the last 2 years.

He would rather deal with an unhappy berbatov who will get over it, and who has said up to this point he is happy playing for Spurs under Ramos hence no transfer request, than an unhappy fan base over the next few years.

Levy knows the reaction a deal thats in the £20 mills and again to Man Utd so soon will casue. We'll be lambasted with a small club,a selling club Man u's feeder club tags ect.

He won't want this image for Tottenham hence stating himself on the Official site, Tottenham are not a selling club, and especially not when players are on long term contracts.IE over 2 years remaining which Berbatov has.

As stated by the more trustworthy ITK it will have to be in the £30 millions before Levy will consider it.

Alves at Sevilla is a perfect example of when a player and club (Barcelona), both want each other, but a deal can be blocked and everything carry on as usual.Alves had just as good a season last year.

I'm sure there will be some theater on the part of the clubs and the player (and his agent). Levy will play the hard ball in order to not upset the fans. Berbatov will ask then for a transfer and do a Barry or something similar in order to take away the blame from the bosses.

Of course, I may be wrong but I think that hopes in this case do not help but only prolong the pain.

As i've said before.Alves asked for a transfer and was denied it.A player transfer request is not always and does not always have to be accepted.Especially if the asking price hasn't been met.

It's very likely that Berbatov will know that Utd have to bid in the £30 millions for him before we will let him go, and know that handing in a transfer request will not change our position on that so he might not even bother.

Ronaldo is likely to do the same and be denied.

There are many diffrences but I'm not going to dicuss them as it's pointless. People have the right to be hopeful.

If you remember Ramos said back in may.We have the player on a long contract so we are quite calm about the situation.

Basically in other words unless we get our asking price we are not gonna sell.If we get our asking price then we will be able to find good replacements, and we will get them in before berbatov leaves.

Apparently in the Sun (just saw it on the BBC as I refuse to contaminate myself with the current bun directly)

Tottenham have told Manchester United that Dimitar Berbatov can only go for £30m but United refuse to go above £24m for the striker and are ready to play a waiting game.

Cheers

It seems the rumours have broken throughout the boroughs.

Recieved three texts in the last 10mins all from Man U fans bragging.

Why they're bragging about rumours, I'll never understand.

I had the same... 28mil paid in full and to be announced Wednesday. Thats what I have been informed!!

handing in a transfer request MAY change our stance as that would mean that he would not be entitled to any loyalty bonus from the club as he has asked for a move (this is worth around £2-3m and in ronaldo's case around £5m).

According to the Argentinian press:

The latest Premier and Champions' League champion have offered the massive sum to pay/activate the release clause of the Argentinian player.

The news was confirmed by José Seguí, one of the representatives of the ex-Independiente player, in talks with the spanish newspaper AS.

"I have received an offer from a big English club and they have asked me if I can transfer that offer to Atlético de Madrid. I can not say anymore until I have spoken with the club about the concrete offer. I can only say that it is one of the greatest teams in Europe and it is not Chelsea." clarified Seguí. Some hours later it emerged that the club in question was Manchester United.

The rest says he's turned down Chelsea, and is going to the Olympics.

Thus, Berbatov will remain at Spurs!

I suggested that Man Utd would rather spend the sort of money we want for Berbatov, on Aguero, a little while back. It makes a lot more sense, especially considering how young Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney were when they spent similar money.

Why did Aguero's agent say that the offer is not from Chelsea? Because he is trying to sell his player to Chelsea who haven't a similar player. Aguero is shorter than Tevez. He wouldn't add nothing substantially new to manure's attack and would cost in the excess of £40m. I wouldn't hold my breath.

out of sight out of mind. Berba going abroad is so much better then seeing him in a United shirt

I think the club should accept 28m if Barca or Real bid

Berbatov's agent said today that Berbatov's future will be resolved very soon. He will speak only after everything becomes clear.

The Bulgarian link:

http://www.focus-sport.net/?do=n1148764184840
The only reason his future needs to be "resolved" is because of this meddling pr*ck. Emil Dantchev was very vocal about how Berbatov couldn't wait to join us, how it was his dream to play in England, etc. then the second he signs that piece of paper, he's phoning around to see what the next move is so he can skim yet more off the top.

It's the nature of agents - the more dealings that a player they represent has, the more money they get for doing f*ck all. This is one of the reasons contracts are never honoured, it's also one of the reasons the game eats up so much cash now.

I find it hard to blame a player who moves a lot when he has an agent with a big mouth.
