Has the Captaincy issue damaged MmmPoch?

I think it was a mistake to give the captaincy to Kaboul and thought so at the time. However, I don't get this attitude that now he's captain he can't be dropped, that's nonsense. Vermaelen was the gooners club captain last season and hardly played and Dawson was our's and was not undroppable. Kaboul should be dropped immediately with captaincy going to the vice captain (I think we all know which one....)

Shouldn't have sold Dawson. There I said it.
I hope that makes you feel better, but it makes me very sad. Dawson WAS great for us in the past but we managed to get an offer and him out of the club. He WAS a great servant and a man who was perfect as CLUB captain (NOT TEAM CAPTAIN playing each week). I'm sad because LLORIS is at the club, recently signed a long extension, he is playing week in and week out because he is the best and he is captain of his country! This also is past- it might come true- time will tell.

For Pochettino, making Kaboul our captain and Adebayor our vice captain were the first seeds of doubt for me.

Everybody, and i genuinely think everybody wanted Hugo Lloris to be our captain, he should have been, and still should be.

Lloris was the only captain/vice captain to front the cameras after that terrible defeat. Adebayor chose to blast the fans to a gutter news rag, and kaboul, our "captain", has said nothing.

First indication that his hand are tied, you mean.

Ade had no preseason what-so-ever due to illness and didn't show any quality in the one game he did manage to appear in. On the other hand, Soldado, Kane, Ceballos, Lamela, Mason had all started showing a bit of understanding between each other and things started looking positive.

First game of the season, Ade up front.

Our club is fucked, totally and utterly fucked.

so we have one player who is truely world class in Hugo.. quite possibly in the top 3 players in his position in all of world football.... who happens to already be the captain of his national team... a national team that lost in the quarter finals of the world cup 1-0 to the eventual winners... seems to me like he managed to lead them fairly well... Also a national team, that in the past has been dogged by infighting and underperformance.
So what do we do... give it to the French CB that has barely played for us, let alone his national side for a fair few seasons due to injury and basically being shit...
seems logical to me.............err..

I agree with those things but shouldn't a captain be good enough at football to warrant a place in their team? It's just been one mistake after another for a long time now from Kaboul.
Agree. But for me the captain needs to be an outfield player so he can get his point over to the ref.
By the time a goalie has ran half the length of the field, the ref has weighed it all up.

So if we do not want Kaboul at RB, and want an outfield player currently just about warranting their place under MP's formation...that narrows it down considerably. er... Rose? Mason?

I think its got to be Walker going forward unless we go out and buy a ready made captain. Walker ticks most of the boxes but I'd worry about his ability to organize the defensive line, I guess that's the CB's job anyway though.

If Kaboul is going to be the fall guy for the stoke defeat, then MP is likely to promote one of his vice captains.
Out of Adebayor and Lloris, we do not need a poll to work out who the fans would want.
But MP has his own philosophy and might well go with Adebayor.
There's a nice thought.

I think the captaincy issue has affected what the fans think of Pochettino more than what the players think of him. I firmly believe most players don't even realise who the captain of their team is and what it "stands for" in England. Now by Mauricio installing Kaboul and Adebayor as captain and vice captains most people at the time thought to themselves wow, what an absolute idiot! Results have not gone his way since and people i.e "the fans" are now jumping on this very decision as if it has some massive bearing. Quite frankly with the players and tactics we employ im not sure having Roy Keane himself in his prime would change much.

Did the players really vote for who would be captain? What if they'd all opted for Brad?

I think he is a good captain.
He buzzes around the refs respectfully and I think he influences them.
And when anything starts to kick off, he breaks it up and no-one messes with him. No-one.
The problem is that he is not a very good CB.
I'd play him at RB - he likes to have a gallop up field.

I'm surprised we don't give this a shot.

He was great there a while back, built his confidence. If we give Dier a shot at CB and move Kabs to RB we might see that they are actually more suited to those roles. It can't be much worse than the current situation.

Also, is it really true that Poch delegated captain picking to the team? First I've heard of it. If true: absurd. Our spineless lot can't be trusted to pick the man tasked with shoving a rocket up their collective backsides.

Just on Dier because this has been annoying me:

It's interesting, i've seen from both us and the media about how we need to protect Kane and introduce him slowly, build up his confidence, etc...but nothing similar for Dier.

He's 20 years old, adjusting to a new country, playing out of position and the poor guy has looked more and more lost each time i've seen him. He needs more protection and more help if we're not going to 'Spurs up' his career here.

We've done it with Bentaleb too

Poch and Ade....I can see the reverse psychology thing happening here but it was always a risk. He was brave to try it, but its gone tits up innit?
