I read that the funeral will be held nine days after the day the queen dies, which would be next Saturday. That day is meant to be a national day of mourning, so matches on that day will almost certainly be postponed.

I'm meant to be at Peppa Pig world that day, my daughter will be livid if that gets cancelled.
Yep as mentioned in my next post, funeral could be on the Saturday. But I've also read on Monday

Funeral is Monday 19th apparently so sport on that weekend may go ahead.

According to the London Bridge protocol the funeral is 10 days after the announcement so that would be the Sunday and the coronation would be the Monday. But if its been reported that the funeral is the Monday then it will be Monday Tuesday. I'm assuming policing in London for football would be tricky as there will probably be a lot or arrangements being made for the funeral and coronation. So can't see any fixtures in London taking place.

Come on mate, they could hardly call them off. Arsenal kicked off before the announcement FFS.
Well manu had to ask for permission from the FA and UEFA, so that game certainly could have been called off.
The FA would have been planning for this eventuality for years - no-one was put on the spot. The decision they came to seems to be the show goes on.

But no-one knows if the PM will stick her oar in for future games. She'll have to channel Revie to find out.

There is simply no slot for teams in Europe prior to World Cup break. If City game is canceled, it’s only possible after World Cup .

I am kind of ok with it given it gives better chance of going unbeaten bit more deeper into calendar

Are you sure? I thought the Coronation wouldn't be until next year.

Only going on the article from telegraph that stated coronation day after. However have read this morning that it could take place anytime in the next year. So who knows

Regardless of whether the funeral is on Saturday, Sunday or Monday they are expecting unprecedented levels of people to descend on London so every available Bobby will be stationed on that. The last thing the police want is to add another 150k people across london to have to police whilst they watch footie.

Charley Windsor is almost 74 those who plan and organise the coronation - and he - won’t want to hang around too long.
But isn't it about convention, and a reasonable period of mourning? I imagine these considerations trump concern about Charles' age.

There is not a chance the football goes ahead this weekend. The PL won't be willing to take on the political battle they would face to do so.

Not sure if this is good or not for us

What I am worried about is if they push this fixture back to the end of the season.

We could have either a title decider or a top 4 decider away at City last game of the season, that would be terrible.

Agreed. Win, lose or draw against City one of the positives about the start to the season we’ve had is that we’ve already would’ve played Chelsea, West Ham and City all away in our first 7 games. As you say, having City away towards the end of the season would suck.

But as you keep saying we are playing poorly right now, scrapping out results.

I'd argue if we are in a title or top 4 decider come the last day of the season, it'll be because we've improved significantly. It might also be a dead rubber for City if they've already won the title by then.
