How has Villas-Boas eclipsed Jose? Do you just mean in the league? I don't know anything about the guy, but Jose won the UEFA cup & the Champions league at Porto so anyone who can match that has to be pretty special. BTW - I'm not having a dig, I'm just interested in what this new guy has achieved.

In the league he has, 36 games without defeat or something, a Porto club record, he has not won Mourinho's silverware yet but the fact that he was Mourinho's #2 at Porto and Chelsea shows that he has learned a lot, he is an incredible talent as a manager.

Too risky look what happened when we got Ramos nearly got us relegated.

But then Mourinho, Benitez and Wenger won the lot between them...

It is not a risk if you do your research. They have to speak English when starting the job though, Ramos and to a lesser extent Capello prove that it is imperative.

Saying all that I still think Levy will go for someone already in the PL. Once bitten, twice shy.

But Juanque's record prior to Sevilla was patchy, to say the least, and Caparros had almost got them into the CL the season before he took over; if del Nido hadn't flipped when Betis, of all teams, pipped Sevilla, Random wouldn't have got the job.

He was already a #2 in a Premiership winning side so he knows how the Premiership works plus he is fluent in English so is more likely to adapt than say Ramos and Santini who both had extremely poor English.

Can't see it myself. I think Levy will want a name.

I think for Sherwood to have any chance of the job, as I was suggesting, he would have to have been working under Redknapp for another 3 or 4 years - so it all depends on how long 'Arry stays. If Levy sees ove this period of time, the value of Sherwood, how well (or otherwise) he gets on with the squad of the time, etc., he may well see promotion from within as the better option.

We have no chance with Mourinho lets go for Van Gaal he is leaving Bayern and has always done a good job where ever he has gone. Good manager with wealth of experience both in leagues and CL.

We have a chance with Mourinho. It may be a slim chance, we may be far from favourites, but, as has been demonstrated at length, above, with clear, reasoned argument, we have a chance of Mourinho.

One danger with the Redknapp situation is that if it becomes nailed on/common knowledge that he's getting the England job, how does that affect how the players perform for him? How they view their contracts/future at the club etc?

I know it shouldn't matter, but the season that Fergie prematurely announced his retirement, everything went to shit for them.

I think we need to be in charge of the situation, I'm just not sure how we manage that.

Still liking Klopp and Deschamps. Klopp especially.

Pros: He's called Jurgen. He can identify talent, get the team playing good football, I think he spricht Englisch, young and not only a few games into his career. Has experienced success - promotion and UEFA qualification with a smaller club with limited resources and taken over a big club who were going through a rough patch and turned them around. Not just over one season but getting them into Europe in his first and is now leading the Bundesliga with them in his a second.. He's called Jurgen.

Cons: Also suffered relegation with Mainz. Not a "big name", no prem experience. Not a big enouhg "pull" for potential players etc? He might not actually spricht Englisch (my memory could be wrong).

Or we can see what Ralf Rangnick does at Shalke for the next 18 months? He can speak perfect English.

This might not be a bad thing though, for mine. Young manager who has tasted success and failure. Made mistakes, battled restrictions in terms of finances etc. All a valuable part of forming a manager experience and character.

It's tricky right isn't it. Should we get CL this season again then the "name" or "reputation" of any potential manager won't be such a problem. One advantage the Pools and assnals of this world have is the club's stature in the eyes of the uninitiated. The players see the club, and associated history, interested in them, not the current manager.

Why would Klopp leave Dortmund for us? He'll have a team he has built winning the league and in the Champions League, full of young hot prospects playing at the Westfalenstadion. They have everything we want and they will pay him for it.

Come on. Don't shit on logic just because you think we are bigger than Real Madrid.

Let's be realistic. And who'd have thought that van Gaal would be more realistic than Klopp. It's too bad Ragninck is already Schalke bound as he would have been the best bet.

I think we're bigger than RM? Shit on logic? I take it you disagree, DP. Fair enough. Not sure why you have to be quite so rude. Manners cost nothing. Unless you're just doing the cliched sarcastic, too cool for school, shtick like millions of others all over the internet. In which case, fill your boots.

It's a little unbecoming is all.

He might be leaving Bayern but do you really expect a manager of his calibre to be out of work for long? Remember we probably won't be looking for a new manager until Harry goes to manager england in the summer of 2012.

van Gaal only does well with youngster he's himself "brought up" - like at Ajax and AZ. He's got too big of an ego to do well with established stars. He hardly last a season before his ego starts to take too much place.
I may be wrong but I doubt he'll do well for Spurs.

I would have thought the lesson of Redknapp would have made more impact on you all, for shame.

We're a complicated club. More than any other. I think we need a degree of simplicity from our manager, since we'll never get it elsewhere.

Would any of you argue that more managers would crash and burn here than anywhere else?

That said, seeing Mourinho have a genuine breakdown would be quite funny.

Ian Holloway all the way for me. His side plays good attacking football, he is young and full of personality and he's good in the transfer market.

Certainly wouldn't want Van Gaal. He's the man who failed to destroy Rivaldo in his first spell as Barca manager, but came in and booted the best player out of the club within moments of his second spell. His attitude to the superstar is akin to George Graham who did that to Limpar and Ginola. Not for me, not on your nelly.

Jose "The Special One" Mourinho.
He might leave the Liga if he got a title...and that means the CL.
So that means Real beats Spurs in 1/4 final of the CL.
