Agreed, if Bale was leaving he would need to do it BEFORE the start of the season so that everyone has time to get over it and move on. Could you imagine if was last day of season, it would totally upset the entire squad right as we are in the thick of it, well the thick of the start of it (the season).

No, if Bale was going, it would be done and dusted at the latest... latest after we presumably sign Soldado, so no... I don't think we are 100% safe jusssst yet, but i reckon considering everything I can't see him leaving this season, there is too much pointing to him staying. Football is a funny game though and we could be being bluffed, but I don't see it.

BT, EA all the advertising... you don't sanction that as a club or a player to then sell that player to another club. It makes no business sense to me as all the generated interest goes towards Real Madrid and anything Spurs related will be about how we sold this great player. So no, not yet.

In fact I am so convinced by own logic, 50squid to SC if he leaves this summer.

Interesting that LLM still mentions Higuain, as he seems set for Napoli, but maybe we had an option and chose to go for Soldado as our striker and therefore Coentrao instead (as it was always rumoured we would be after a LB this term and makes sense, BAE needs stiff competition!)

More likely Higuain decided not to choose us.

Re: Coentrao. We shouldn't do any business with RM. Any conversation is likely to get round to Bale and I'd suggest that a favourable deal for any of their players would imply that RM are entitled Bale at a discount. At least, Perez and the others would want it seen this way.

We should absolutely do business with Real Madrid for any of their surplus players that could be useful to us - and use the Bale bait for all it's worth.

This is Daniel Levy we're talking about. Madrid can talk about Bale all they like. And DL will almost certainly give them the impression that a favourable deal for Coentrao now will be rewarded with a favourable deal for Gareth Bale next summer.

But come next summer, DL will be as impossibly difficult to deal with as he ever was. Job's a good'un.

I know this sounds like crazy talk, but my friend in Madrid thinks Real are going to attempt to comply with Financial Fair Play. Hence buying modders on the cheap and selling a few excess players. It seems they can no longer rely on Spanish banks (who would have thought that skint banks can't subsidise football teams).

It seems the partnership agreement between the two clubs is not only about football, but about business accumen and cost cutting for both clubs. The only way to compete with Chelsea, City, Monaco and PSG is to "out business" them.

This sounds plausible to me, but when I said the same a few weeks ago (about banks not subsidising Real for ever) Wishkah was adamant they would just continue using bond schemes.

To me, an LB is possibly more important than a forward. I have faith that Ade can reignite some form, and while i love Benny, his casual attitude has me shitting bricks whenever he's one-on-one.

However, Coentrao is just surely a non-starter. Why would RM sell us a player who cost them €30m to cover a £12m debt? I know Marcelo is better and so maybe Coentrao has dropped his form due to lack of games, but if he was available then other big teams would come in as well. Hope he does comes, what a statement!

Maybe that is possible, but my understanding is that there is a finite amount of bonds that can hold a real (excuse the pun) value. It's only come from a fan but is a discussion that is going on over there.

I don't think them wanting to comply with FFP will be much to do with the banks, more to do with the fact that the likes of Monaco, PSG, City and Chelsea are starting to distort the market so much that even Real can't compete with them (in terms of transfer fees). So fitting into FFP rules means that they can pressure UEFA into dealing with these clubs and bring the market back down to a level where they can compete.

We need a "hopeful" rating.

I don't subscribe to this "agreement" being one sided, I do think a lot goes on behind scenes that we simply do not see and who is to say that Real Madrid are not helping us with the Bale situation by scaring off all other suitors?! Yes, we might well sell him to them when everyone is good and ready, but I would not be surprised if both clubs were "playing the media".

Obviously I am not saying it's all love and holding hands and laughing at the rest of the football world, everyone has their agenda and will want to act in their own interests, but if Levy is one thing, it ain't being daft. If we have an agreement with Real Madrid, then something is benefiting us, even if we as fans don't see it.

Relax the deals still on for soldado. I would expect an announcement today (gut feeling). Very humorous that they will sign postiga.

I have not seen the itk on coentrao but I will back it up. We havd a choice of players from real madrid. Coentrao, higuain, morata (as a loan)

The deal.is to offset the modric money nothing to do with bale. I have been banging on about this since last year. We sold modders on a ridiculously cheap deal stupidly cheap. Real will give us a player on the cheap to offset the money.

the special relationship is to do with bale also but it just gives them first option if we choose to sell.[/quote

I really dont understand what this means in regards to transfers. A little bit like Manyoo offering 34M for Fabregas then RM have to say to Scum OK do you want him first? A little bit like a gentlemans agreement over the fat bird in the bar at kicking out time

Considering how close we're supposed to be the ITK radio-silence is deafening.

JJ, POTL, Archie, Roger Morgan. I can't concentrate on anything else at the moment!

Because it ties him down for longer? I'm not sure, if he signs a new 5 year deal, then I think the worry is that we will make him see out at least two more years, that isn't a big deal if we invest heavily and match his ambition but if we don't...... I think Bale is just taking it one season at a time, if he continues to improve and so do we I can see him sticking round for a while, if we don't he will just move on. A new contract will get signed at the end of the window i'm sure as he will want the pay rise, but the length will probably be vastly dependent on the business we do.

Maybe, i'm just not sure it makes any difference really to the length of time he stays here. I see it as an insurance policy for us on getting the price that we want thats all.

He is good left back - International caps 35 & integral member of Portugal.First of all not many clubs are after left backs - there are few but bit interested in spending uin double digits for it.

I doubt we will buy him but I think its is realisitic to expect a loan option.

It's simple... If Bale wants to leave then we will offer him to Real Madrid first. IF neither party wants to make it happen or afford it, THEN other clubs will be allowed to come into the equation. One has to be happy enough with that.

Of course Real Madrid might well/are trying to expedite matters, but nothing can happen UNTIL we & Bale decide to part ways.

Erm, Soldado thread maybe getting busy very soon ... increasing amount of negative tw**ts about the deal being off.

The info from Valencia isnt that the deal is off. Spurs needs to make the next move, and they are close. But Valencia wont give up their demands. So i guess they are playing hardball with Levy..poor bastards..

This seems like an overly elaborate smoke screen just to allow Harry Kane to be promoted to first choice striker under the radar...

Nope, no link there. Benteke does share an agent with Mounir El Hamdaoui though!

This is mental - but i dreamt about him El Hamadaoui last night! Seeing this is the only reason i've remembered it. We signed him and he was doing keepy uppies at his unveling with his socks rolled down to his ankles a la Steve Claridge style

I think the power is only really with the players when they are in the last couple of years. If he wants to leave and we have 4 years left on his contract we can easily say no.
