Is he any good or another stopgap?
Never seen him play mate but my gut instinct based on the lessons of history is that he's a cheap option who offers potential rather than immediate ability and experience, and the option we'll likely end up with.

Not really having no clue, though - is it? It's incredibly formulaic and has happened every window. Levy waits until the end of the window, and we end up leaving our squad incomplete.

As I've said, I'll stop moaning as there might be stuff going on.

I mean I agree in part, but we have sold 7 players and bought 5. These are the harder positions to fill, so I'd rather us get it right for the sake for five years rather than 3 games. That's where I come from on this, and I understand the frustration but I just wish people would take a step back and think about it with a bit of perspective (but that's not a realistic expectation I suppose because people will be people right?)

Marca get plenty of leaks straight from the Real power players, so I would think it's the truth.

Marcas article stated that their source was a news agency, and not their own source. Yeez, calm down everyone. A week ago we didn't even know we wanted this guy.

Has Illiarramendi been confirmed to Sociadad?
Quotes circulating in Spain have him stating that Sociedad was always his first choice and that it is like coming home.
There is also a (quite high quality might I add) video catching him on the local airport in San Sebastian, allegedly this morning, where he also briefly talked to a journalist.
I for one is inclined to believe he is going there.

Its the pity the deadline can't be moved to before the season starts...it would eliminate so much of the complaining.

Levy obviously isn't the only one who uses the deadline to exert pressure but it does get tiring when it clearly impacts on our business and the timing of when we do the majority of it.

Yeah but, but but but has he seen our training ground?

Tbh San Sebastián is one of the most wonderful places on earth so it's really no surprise he's going there. To get him I think we would've had to go big on the financial incentive which we were obviously never going to do.

I fully understand if he decides to return to his old club, I'm sure we all hope Bale and Modric return one day (if only!).

What I don't understand is why we always seem to be weighing up bids or in official talks. By all accounts Sociedad have gone in and put the money on the table. That causes a decision to be made. No encouraging of making a bid at the end of the window, they've just made the player think very seriously about joining by making it real.

Even more so in this case as the fee is very agreeable, and the wages within our budget.

I appreciate these deals are complicated but there's a reason why the likes of Villa, Swansea and Palace got in players that could have done better, they agreed the fee and made them make the decision.

I genuinely think the Willian deal has scarred us. We want to talk at length to ensure a) we don't get gazumped and b) look like we have missed out in public.

Have to say I'm getting pretty concerned considering the amount of work we need to do in 5 days. Luckily the ITKs still seem positive so I'm going to keep hoping.

He is of course also of Basque origin, and I think that's usually a heritage proud people, so I can see him literally moving home.

Massively disagree, we needed a striker, a creative attacker and a DM. We've bought 3 defenders and a young raw speed merchant.

I would say that's a fail. Can be fixed in the next 5 days of course, but can't see it myself
So why were people going mental a month ago with joy? I've never seen so many posts saying best transfer window ever? Did everyone just by carried away? We've had a terrible window so far
