Guys, sorry but I had to "clean" this thread at Nick's request and I think that's probably the wisest course of action all around.

Anything else on that subject will be removed as well so please leave it at that.

What did i miss? Was it itk from a named source that shouldn't have been named?

Edit. This isn't the discussion thread. I'm so confused. Still, what happened anyway?

According to reports fergie is going to pay 32m for Tevez. I'm sure the Glazzers wont/cant sanction another 28m for Bebratov

Tevez record - 19 goals in 48 games
Berbatov Record - 46 goals in 101 games

Not only has Berba got a better goals to games ratio but he has also done it for a longer period. Tevez is 24 and Berbatov is 27. But age shouldn't be an issue when it comes to valuation (in this case) as Berbatov's style of play would mean he would be able to perform for longer then Tevez at the highest level. As Tevez' game is built on strength, stamina, workrate he will only have another 5 years at the top

So unless Fergie offers at least 32m he should not be sold

But Tevez is no more about just goal-scoring than Berbatov, as you've pretty much said. He makes a very decent number of assists, and is forever tracking back, harrying and getting stuck in—as someone said, a rich man's Dirk Kuyt.

But agree about the fee—and according to the Screws and the Times that's £38m.

I would'nt pay more than £12 million for Tevez,he runs around like a little bulldog and scores the odd goal - United are totally crackers to pay that kind of money for him!

Ok, so this may be a long shot but has this been considered at all?

Ferguson said that "he was in for a player that would improve the team." We now know that that quote was attributed on assumption to Berbatov. He also said that we would "be embarrassed" when the truth came out.

Is it not at all plausible that Tevez was the player Ferguson was discussing at first?

Hi, first post,

Yes, its plausable, Fergie might well have meant Tevez instead of Bebatov as far as the supposed 'sun' quotes go, even if he didnt its quite a good one to pull out now.

I trust that the dossier that supposedly has over a years worth of evidence will be making someone with a red nose embarrased, and i aint talking about Rudolf.

£38m

That's just a part of the theater to show the fans that the blame for Berba's departure is not to be placed on Levy's head.

So, Man U give £20m and Levy wants £38. And purely coincidentally, the expected transfer fee lies exactly between those extremes: £29m.

I don't think they will go up to £29m for him...I can't see them paying a penny over £25m

As Tevez has already been playing for united for a season, I don't think making it a permanent deal would 'improve' the team. Fergie was definitely talking about a new arrival to the squad

Manchester United have bid £20m for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov but are set to end their interest because the asking price could soar to £38m. (Various)

United are willing to pay £25m for Berbatov but a row between Sir Alex Ferguson and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy could threaten the deal. (Sunday Times)

Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov never goes to nightclubs and says he prefers to stay at home and feed squirrels from his balcony. (News of the World)

I read it but I cannot draw the conclusions that you seem to have already drawn.

Maybe we have to interpret the posted in the folowing lines:

"No problem Mr. Levy if you fuck my dream move to Man U again. I'll give my best for the team because the only thing that matters is the good future of the team. I'm fully committed and I promise I won't play bellow my standards till December as it was last season. I'll never make such a mistake again. Give me please the new contract!"

I wouldn't go quite that far. However, his willingness to put in an effort in a Mickey Mouse friendly does suggest your assertion that he'll sulk and twat about if forced to stay is somewhat wide of the mark.
